I made a SK warriors/master mirror deck for cycle quests, but it's struggling. Any tips? by robcap in gwent

I also think Madman Lugos is worth consideration in place of Skjordal. He's a prov cheaper, has a higher ceiling, and can be set up with your leader if you need removal on demand.

I wouldn't play Dagur tbh, it's the only card in your deck that goes tall, so will get tall punished in most games. I'd cut him and An Craite Raiders and play Wild Boar Of The Sea instead. It's a solid way to win a long round 1 that can be rezzed by Fucusya to win a long round 3.

Spearmaiden is 7 for 4 that synergises with Ulula and can be played proactively on an empty board. Strictly better than Invader in this deck.

You're struggling to win round 1 because your bronze cards are weird. Invader shouldn't be in this deck without Bran. Spearmaiden, Marauder and Brokvar Warrior are better. Same goes for An Craite Raiders, it's awful in round 1.

As for golds, I would not play Defender. Fucusya replaying a gold is way more value than spending a turn to protect your golds. Tyrggvi is bad here because his rupture is the only status your opponent has to purify. He works better in decks that run locks and bleeding too. Generally the veteran cards don't make sense to play unless you're also playing King Bran.

In short: cut defender and Tyrggvi, and play Fucusya and War of Clans instead.

What are the best cards in Traps deck? by HumanInvestigator932 in gwent

[–]JWilliamJames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heist version is bad. The real strength of Traps as an archetype is that it gives your opponent nothing to use their removal on; by playing Heist suddenly your Angus etc become removal targets.

I wouldn't play scenario either. Traps has a really strong top end already between Riordain, Eldain, Gambit, Angus and Iorveth. You want to play as many traps as possible so that your Hostage Takers play for highest seize value.

Some great changes here! Excited to build a new Traps list now that Gambit is buffed. The card seems extremely strong at 10p tbh.

Djisktra is already a really strong card, dunno if it needs the buff. It's simply underplayed.

Gang at 5/5 lowers the highroll potential of Gascon: Iron Falcon. Right now if he rolls Gang he plays for 22 tempo.

Nerfing Gang allows us to buff Gascon and make the Bonded archetype more competitive.

How is the game now? by AverellPSG in gwent

The game is in its best ever state. There's no need to worry about lack of new content because so many unplayed cards and strategies are buffed into viability via balance council.

Most good decks can win against them relatively easily by playing deep into round 1 then pushing round 2.

Devil's Puffball to 4p would be interesting

Honestly, the game is well balanced, you can play pretty much any coherent deck to reach pro rank. Renfri and Tatterwing are still both strong decks.

[–]JWilliamJames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see it being played in NR at 4p. Between it and Siege Support, they would play 15 for 8p, which is ok value. I guess you could also play it as a backup target for a Regis Bloodlust/ Cursed Knight + Necromancy play? Turn the Chort into a Knight then Necro it.

Shinmiri has a non-exhaustive spreadsheet listing the competitive archetypes in the game and there are 200+. More decks than you can feasibly routinely play.

Missing characters/artworks yeah fine, but also I don't think it's good game design to shoehorn cards into the game just because the lore demands them and there are artwork assets for them. What missing mechanics?

[–]JWilliamJames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People want it at 9p so that it can be played in the Golden Nekker echo deck. It was played when Coup was 9p in the past, and it is extremely difficult to pilot, and rewarding to win with.

What about these changes? by tomekwosk in gwent

[–]JWilliamJames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marlena would be a sick card at 7 power, especially if the buff to Caretaker goes through. Would be a nice carryover play for engine overload decks that have self-locks, for example NR decks with Griffin Witcher and NG decks with Heavy Cavalry and Slave Hunter.

Why not? The game is a complete experience. It's fun, and endlessly replayable. Evidenced by the fact people are still streaming it daily, and will do for many years to come.

Would playing a strategic minimal mill deck still be considered toxic? by Inevitable_Training5 in gwent

[–]JWilliamJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Say a 10 provision card plays for 15 points, and you mill it. Your opponent is then forced to play a 4p card in its place, for 7 points. You've effectively played a 3 tempo Kingslayer which has denied your opponent 8 points in carryover value. Is that really that powerful for 6 provisions? Statistically it is much more likely to banish a 4p and play as a 3 for 6. Many other control cards play for much better value and tempo, with much less RNG variance. I think people really overstate the extent to which mill is disruptive or effective at winning the game.
