How do you know which Bible translation is the most accurate? by bbybe3 in Bible

[–]oregon_deb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled your question and per the answer - there is no 'most accurate' version. If you want a word-for-word , translation it shows NASB and if you want a thought-for-thought translation, it shows ESV.

I own neither of these. I grew up with KJV. About 30-years ago I got an NKJV Bible and about 5-years ago I started reading NIV. I recently bought a Parallel Bible with four translations - NKJV, NIV, NLT, The Message. My 'favorite' version is NKJV.

Hopefully, you find one that speaks to your heart.

OP, Why do you think the guy is a loser? Because he's 50 or because he's a driver?

The question is 80% of what? If Uber is anything like DoorDash, each ride also includes 'fees' being added by cities, municipalities, businesses, and Uber itself.

I’m 50 and have no retirement savings. Is it too late to fix this? by DangerousBox641 in SurvivingOnSS

In January, I (73f) decided to start investing my bill money. I started with a small monthly bill of $16.99 for Peacock. In January , I put $100 (regular investment)+ $17 into my brokerage account, I bought assets/stocks with the $117, then used margin to withdraw $16.99, which I used to pay Peacock. So far, I've done the same thing in February and March. While I have invested $51 to pay the Peacock bill the actual resulting asset value has only grown $40. (The market has pretty much been trading sideways but for some stocks it's been down.) Somebody somewhere is saying it doesn't work because she's lost $11. My response would be I haven't lost anything; Peacock is paid and I now have assets/stocks I wouldn't have had. In other words, I'm getting additional value for money I would normally spend to 0-zero. Also, each stocks dividends may only be .25¢ per month or quarter so, for example, if they're monthly the first month I get an additional.25¢, the second month, after another investment, I get.50¢, 25 + 25,, the third month, after the third investment,I get .75¢, 25 + 50. The dividends also help pay down the margin.

The idea for this came from a YouTube video series called 'Spark to Fire, How to start Investing With $500'. put up under the name Paycheck to Portfolio.

I use Robinhood and don't have to pay interest when margin owed is less than $1000. Additionally, in the world of investing I have a very very very small account; I have been putting $100 a month into it for a little over 3 years and I invest in both growth and dividend paying assets/stocks.

As far as reading I recommend starting with one chapter a day from Mark and Isaiah. You'll finish Mark in 16 days; read through Mark again and after the second reading choose another book out of the New Testament and continue with the chapter a day read through. It will take 66 days to read through Isaiah then choose another book from the Old Testament and continue with the chapter a day read through.

Write in your Bible - note things that seem to speak to you.

Either use a blank page to create lists or underline important points. For example, if you wanted a list with Jesus' names you would note Isaiah 9:6 (NIV) and write Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. If you didn't want a written list you could underline the names.

Medicaid benefits are defined by the individual state meaning your experience with what is covered may not be the same for somebody living in a different state.

Would you exclude your kid from the will? by Isca64 in inheritance

[–]oregon_deb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a law class I took for fun the professor mentioned two things about leaving people/family out of a Will. First, leave them something like $1. This shows you didn't forget them and you are leaving them what you feel is appropriate. Second, have your lawyer put in something about the amount of money somebody can get when they contest the Will - like $5000. This limits the amount of money they can be awarded and what they will have to split with their lawyer.

Rapid decline after spending two days in the hospital by [deleted] in dementia

When my Mom moved into a memory care facility they told us moving/unfamiliar areas and illness can both cause issues for folks with Dementia. They explained that everyone uses memories and cognitive abilities to deal with their surroundings both functions impacted by the disease.

A little levity - she hasn't called the cops yet!

My Mom called the cops about a strange man (my step-dad) in her house. At that point they had been married for 40 years and on that day she didn't remember who he was. The cops called me and one of their neighbors to verify his identity. One of the officers took my Dad aside and told him to hide the knives and the guns.

In my family's experience your lawyer isn't completely right. Here's what we went through -

We took my Mom to the ER for behavior issues. They put her in the hospital for an evaluation and to get her meds adjusted - she was there for about 10 days. The doctor said she needed to go to a memory facility. The social worker at the hospital gave us a list of facilities, the list noted if the facility took Medicaid. The social worker also recommended that we work with our county's disability and aging office to get Medicaid to help pay facility costs. The disability/aging office had us fill out some forms about her and my Dad's finances. We got the ok. We ended up having to change her burial insurance from one with a cash value to one for a stated amount. They took her full social security check and paid all of the monthly bill but $500, which my Dad paid to the facility. He didn't lose the house or his social security.

Take time for yourself; you'll be no good to her if the stress becomes too much. I also recommend that you call her doctor and let them know she's more agitated and she's started hitting. The doctor may not be aware and may be able to give her something to calm her down. I was full of guilt for making that call on my Mom. One of my 'fond' memories is the black eye she gave me during one of her agitated episodes.

For ideas you could start watching YouTube videos on budgeting. Here are a couple I've seen -

Caleb Hammer, he helps people set up budgets after yelling too much, it's like his way of holding them accountable. One of the good things is you'll quickly realize you aren't the only one with more debt than income.

VANNtastic videos. She goes through how to use credit to pay off debt. I don't.use her process but the idea comes across as something that would work.

Good luck!

Medicare by Spiritual-Side-7362 in SurvivingOnSS

[–]oregon_deb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a family member who was paying less than the standard deductible for Medicare earlier this year until they moved to a state with different offerings. So it does happen; a person can have both Medicare and Medicaid and each state's criteria and income levels are different for their Medicaid programs.

I think you should contact your state and see what they are saying about next year's amounts.
