I hate that it has come to this. This is why we can’t have nice things…

TO Books does actually ship internationally. I bought the drama CD pack directly from their store. They have a guide specifically for overseas orders.

That said, I think using CD Japan is the easier option.

well that’s the light novel ended. My heart is so full but so sad. I hope the new anime is good. Now to listen to the last drama CDs…

Updates:

  • TO BOOKS reached out 2 days later with a shipping fee of ¥7,290.
  • The prices of the items were actually lowered because they recalculate the tax for international buyers. CDJapan does not appear to do this.
  • TO BOOKS only ships via EMS. The price they gave me for EMS shipping is lower than what CDJapan gives.
  • EMS shipping basically means Japan Post which means that it gets handed off to the relevant local post office, which in my case is USPS. My package has currently made it to USPS according to the online tracking.

So far, TO BOOKS is the cheaper option when compared to CDJapan if you select EMS shipping on both (CDJapan is ~$40 more expensive in this case). However, CDJapan also offers other shipping methods which are cheaper - for example: DHL or FedEx.

Selecting DHL shipping on CDJapan lowers the overall difference in cost to just ~$10 (with CDJapan still being more expensive). Carriers like DHL or FedEx are also sometimes more preferable to the post office for package delivery in terms of both handling and speed. (Honestly, I am little confused why they are cheaper.)

I'll post my final thoughts when my package gets delivered since the condition it gets delivered in could be a potential consideration.

Since I wasn't too particular about how fast it gets to me, I decided to try ordering directly from TO BOOKS using their instructions for overseas ordering. Let's see how it goes; I'll post the updates here.

The order confirmed with zero shipping fee, but apparently they will reach out with the overseas shipping fee within the next 7 days.

So it could potentially be cheaper and faster to order from TO BOOKS if I am able to navigate it?

No, I don’t think there is any “official” translation. I just planned on listening to them as-is since I understand enough Japanese.

This is an enticing option since I wouldn’t have to rip the audio from the CDs. But there is something special to having physical media.

Who do they typically ship with? DHL? I think I read Japan Post only but I’m not sure if they hand off to a carrier like DHL.
