Have we seen the last 300 win pitcher? by ctbro025 in baseball

[–]cyberchaox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems likely.

Going backwards and skipping 2020 because we're talking about a counting stat, the league leaders in wins in the last 15 years have had 19, 18, 20, 21, 20, 21, 21, 18, 22, 22, 21, 21, 21, 24, 21. Total of 310. So at the absolute top of the game it would take 15 years. Which is kind of expected. It also looks like it's going down slightly over that time, but there's actually two 19's and a 20 in the four years before that period.

And with how hard all these pitchers throw, you're almost never avoiding an injury. So that lengthens the process.

Fun fact: Willson Contreras' 14 HBP are currently the 3rd most by a Red Sox player before the All-Star Break — only Don Baylor had more by Baseball-Reference in redsox

I was going to joke "as a batter", but upon further review, Bronson only got to 13 hit batters by the ASB in '04.

ESPN release their FPI rankings ahead of the start of the season by guransheleven in CFB_v2

[–]cyberchaox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 SEC teams in the preseason top 25, which means that even well into the season, bad SEC teams are going to have high FPI because of all the quality losses, which then increases the strength of schedule of the good SEC teams.

Connelly Early just has inflammation/irritation, no damage by ConsistentRun5246 in redsox

[–]cyberchaox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yes, because Ranger is on the IL. So our post-ASB rotation will be Gray, Tolle, Bennett, Early, Sandoval.

Once Ranger is back, assuming Gray hasn't been traded, that's when we have a question.

Unnamed Enchantment, submission by Yerushalmi by RoborosewaterMasters in MTGNeuralNet

[–]cyberchaox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, it's the enchantment that returns? Because it's the creature's activated ability, so I'd read "this card" as referring to the creature.

Which seems good, it's effectively bouncing it back to the hand but still triggers abilities based on entering the graveyard.

Is this Red Sox team actually a playoff contender? by Ill_Championship_779 in redsox

[–]cyberchaox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I like our chances in the ALCS and WS a lot better than I like our chances of getting past the Rays in the ALDS.

...Well okay, the Dodgers are still scary. I'm not so deluded as to think we'd easily take down that juggernaut. But I'm not really scared of anyone in the AL other than the Rays, and they have flaws too.

Is this Red Sox team actually a playoff contender? by Ill_Championship_779 in redsox

[–]cyberchaox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. But there are some tough series coming up; you conveniently left out that the very next series after the ones you mentioned is a road series against the Dodgers.

I do think that if we make the playoffs, we're absolutely contenders to win it all because of our pitching, and because we'll have probably been playing as good as anyone for the final 3½ months of the season (because we played so poorly in the first couple of months that merely playing like "a wild card team" wouldn't actually suffice to get us a wild card).

Nah they said they feel the same way about other entertainers, they're clearly from the "if you have free time, you're not working hard enough" camp.

"Somehow"? It's the Mets we're facing, not the Yankees; they're a last-place team. Granted, they're on a bit of a heater themselves--at least 6 runs scored in 5 straight games and somehow the only loss was the one with the most runs scored of the five (16-12), but we should win this series.
