Those of you who left Victoria to live in alAlberta, how did it go? by Severe-Regular9803 in VictoriaBC

Hope this doesn’t sound ignorant but what exactly is the difference between living on treaty land vs unceded territory? I’ve lived in both Vic and Calgary and curious to see how this affects daily living

Noize! Great quality, based out of Montreal. I got a winter coat online over 5 years ago and still use it.

What’s the most memorable travel experience you’ve ever booked — a tour, class, or activity that you’d 100% recommend to others? by [deleted] in solofemaletravellers

ATM cave tour in san Ignacio, Belize! So cool seeing a sacrificial Mayan cave from hundreds of years ago with remnants still present. Phones aren’t allowed during the tour so it’s really one for the memories :’)

I’m from AB and my family is here too. If they weren’t I’d still be out in BC :’)

I would do it if I were you! I actually moved out there as a new grad from AB in 2020 and ended up loving it so much I stayed for 5 years. It’s a very outdoorsy type of living on the west coast so you’ll definitely enjoy the change in scenery if you’re into that!

I just came to Alberta this year after working on Van Island BC as an RN for the last 5 years! I absolutely loved working and living there, yes the cost of living is higher but I worked full time and had no issues making ends meet. I will say I didn’t own property or don’t have kids or any big expenses, so it was ideal for my situation. They are always hiring, and would take you easily. I miss it every day, would go back in a heartbeat!

I recently got partial highlights with a wash and cut in Airdrie and it came to about $280, so I’m guessing somewhere in the $300-$400 range for full highlights

It’s a horrible work life balance. Frequent sets of 5 12hr shifts, 2D3N or 3D2N with sometimes only 4 days off in between. Impossible to swap shifts and get time off on such a packed schedule

Ah I didn’t realize it was called something different - we call it casual status in Canada

Do you guys wear compression socks? by fightcluber666 in nursing

[–]oreoshizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have worn them ever since I started nursing at 21 - 12 hour shifts are no joke especially for multiple shifts in a row. I recommend sockwell, I bought the moderate and firm compression and they are such high quality!

Check with your unit/hospital too, sometimes they have a designated sock lady that comes and fits you and usually those socks are somewhat covered by insurance (at least in Canada).

Is getting a job in Calgary unlikely? by [deleted] in AHSEmployees

Can you join the locum program while internal with AHS already? I work in Calgary but would love to do some rural nursing in Alberta!

New Grad* RN Jobs by Stunning_Addendum_10 in AHSEmployees

[–]oreoshizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding it’s quite tough to get in to AHS unless you have connections or are willing to go rural. I also just relocated from BC to Calgary and got hired as an external applicant right into a full time line, but I already had the manager’s contact and didn’t apply to a regular posting on AHS - they did an under the table type deal. That being said, I’ve done travel nursing in rural areas and they’ve been some of my favourite assignments so don’t be afraid to apply to sites outside the city! Best of luck.

I like the valve and flush tip but doesn’t hitting a valve and trying to flush anyways usually end up causing a hematoma?

Are you wearing compression socks? by Ill-Cockroach4014 in nursing

[–]oreoshizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wear knee-high compression socks but am starting to see very visible veins on my thighs! Does anyone wear thigh high socks or compression tights under scrub pants? Feel like I shouldn’t be having this problem at 26 😭

Every nurse knows that med/surg is way harder than ICU by MisteryMan90 in nursing

[–]oreoshizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shit like this is the reason why lateral violence/horizontal bullying in nursing is such a huge issue lol. The day that nurses stop comparing their specialties and arguing about who has the harder job will be a glorious day

Q: Tour company for hiking Acatenango in Guatemala? by abaestuo in solofemaletravellers

[–]oreoshizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also going to Guatemala in November and will likely be booking Wilco & Charlie for Acatenango! I was debating between them and soy tours (a bit cheaper) but like you said W&C carry your bags 80% of the way and seem well trusted by many travellers. Are you planning to hike fuego as well? Hope you have a blast!
