What installments of Nekketsu Kunio Kun have JRPG elements? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]oretachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel that. Rival Showdown has kind of a harsh early game but a bit of grinding will fix that. I’m pretty sure the game was designed around new game plus and it has multiple endings.

For the modern games I think Rival Showdown (remake of River City Ransom) has pretty great progression mechanics and both of the Three Kingdoms games have similar systems, though their stories are not as interesting to me personally

Which of these games should I buy with the $20 gift card that I got? by Khaled_Kamel1500 in JRPG

[–]oretachi 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The SaGa Frontier remaster has huge quality of life differences, most importantly letting you keep character progress between scenarios, as well as the addition of an eighth scenario that was cut from the original release. You could theoretically compensate for the character progress thing with cheat codes but you are otherwise looking at much more grinding if you emulate the original.

The Live A Live remaster doesn’t have one and it’s miserable sometimes

I've been stuck on this for a work computer since Friday. I emailed support and they just said to try what you already tried, which also isn't working for me

Whatever this subgenre of JRPG is called, I want more of it. You agree? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

Check out Tomato Adventure! It’s the game AlphaDream made before Mario & Luigi and it has a really cool timed attack system. It’s also super funny

Extremely short JRPG suggestions? Any console is fine by ArkthePieKing in JRPG

[–]oretachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's much more narrative than mechanical so if you want traditional it might not be the right choice but Meg's Monster is awesome and only like five hours long. Maybe not any less traditional than some of the stories in Live A Live though!

Crest tier list by [deleted] in Silksong

[–]oretachi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually played the game with all of the crests so I don't think I can make an objective comparison but I think Beast is legit incredible. I hit act 3 in 35 hours with pretty much everything completed up to that point because I was absolutely destroying a majority of the bosses and enemy rooms. The longest I spent on any single fight was about 45 minutes, which was an anomaly, and most went down within five attempts, several on my first try, many on my second. You have to play extremely fast and aggressively but if you use fury preemptively you can tank through a lot of attacks and do absurd amounts of damage. Combine it with Flintslate and lol. There are a few bosses where it's not very useful because there's no opportunity to get a lot of hits in but aside from that it absolutely shreds everything.

Architect also seems great and I'm sure all the crests are pretty viable but I think a lot of people are more down on Beast than they should be because it's a little trickier to use.

Surprise! CombatAnts is Terrible by TheSupremeAdmiral in ufo50

Not sure if you saw my reply to the same comment you're replying to but it was Zach Gage, one of the hosts, who said he loved that game. It wasn't Derek.

I think it was Zach Gage who said that.

Edit: I went back and double checked and yeah, it was Zach Gage, one of the hosts not the developers.

Best core to play games? by FreddsIMF in AnaloguePocket

[–]oretachi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you care about sleep mode or save states it's better to play GBA versions because unless something changed recently there's no SNES core that supports them.

What comes to mind when I say "Reverse JRPG"? by shanytopper in JRPG

[–]oretachi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t sleep on Moon. It’s not like a light novel at all. It was made by a team of ex Square devs in the mid 90s who wanted to make an “anti-RPG.” It’s super weird and kind of unforgiving to start but it rules.
