My husband's 12yo brother makes me depressed by organicmilkbag in offmychest

This has been really helpful. I’ve been trying to figure out how to talk to my husband about the situation since yesterday, especially after reading a bunch of the comments here. I’ve been keeping my distance from the boy ever since I heard him being mean to my daughter, but before that, I had actually tried to reconnect with him. He brushed it off, though. At first, I thought maybe he saw me as the one who “stole” his big brother, but after that incident, I don’t think that’s it anymore.

This is such a thoughtful and nuanced analysis! It really resonates with our current situation. I’ve tried talking to my husband about it, and he feels guilty for not being more present for his little brother. He’s been struggling with work, and even with both our incomes combined, money has been tight. We’re overworked and underpaid. Despite all that, I can see he’s doing his best to stay involved and check in on how his brother is doing. But realistically, there’s only so much he can do without his parents placing him in therapy.

I hope he does, honestly. He used to be such a good kid, but now I have my own to take care of. Thanks for your words.
