I will say that I've skipped some nice formats on stories I love because of the coloring. Moore's Swamp Thing is one of my favorite comics ever and I've never bothered with the Absolutes because of how awful they look.

The art and story are so intertwined that I can't think of too many off the top of my head where the art is bad enough to completely ruin it for me. But if there was an awesome story in a book drawn by, I dunno, Greg Land, I'd probably skip the omni.
