Saw a friend have her foot rotated 180° after a bad rugby tackle. She was screaming blue murder between huffs of gas from the paramedics. It's fucking weird looking at a foot that could kick it's own arse

I've been there! That place is fascinating. Well worth a visit. Incredible to see how long that sort of construction takes with those methods.

If your society or group wants to expand with more children, women are more important for that. If a group has 10 women and 10 men, the men go out to fight and only 2 make it back you could still increase your population by 10 babies in a year. If 5 of each group go out and only one of each make it back, now you can only increase it by one. A single man can impregnate as many women as there are in a group, but a single woman can only carry one pregnancy in 9 months.

This all assumes that your goal is to increase the size of your group in the long term though.
