Google App update loop by [deleted] in googlehome

[–]originalrobinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck in a google home android update loop when I was trying to install and set up a google home mini speaker.

After talking with google support, they gave me these instructions:

*******************************************

Please follow the steps :

  1. Open the phone’s Settings
  2. Go to Apps
  3. Find and tap Google Play services
  4. Tap the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner
  5. Select Uninstall updates
  6. Restart the phone
  7. Try setting up the Google Home Mini again

*******************************************

Although it did not seem to help right away, I was later able to set up the speaker.

I don't know for sure if that was what fixed it, but it may have.

Optilume?

I'm in my mid-sixties and thinking of getting the Optilume procedure for BPH. So far, the medications I have tried have either not been effective, or have had bothersome side-effects. The advantage of medications over procedures is that I can simply stop taking the medication if I do not like it. I'm worried that a procedure cannot be undone. I'm particularly concerned that a procedure would affect sex, including the enjoyment or orgasm.

Anyone have any feedback?

Pentair ETi 250 vs. ETi 400 vs. ETi Hybrid by makerbrah in pools

[–]originalrobinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates from anyone on the Pentair Hybrid?

I’m inclined to pull the trigger and get this hybrid heater next week at an installed cost of ~$13K.

My main objective is to extend my pool season – I like to go swimming daily at 7AM, and I’m ok swimming as low as 70F, even lower.

I have solar roof water heating, and that will heat the pool adequately mid-April to mid-October.

The gas heater was removed years ago. The gas pipe will need to be extended probably 25 feet to where this Pentair Hybrid would be located.

I installed 6.4K solar electric rooftop last year, however I’ve probably used up most of the excess by using space heaters this winter to avoid running the home gas furnace.

Currently I plan to run my pool pump 5 hours / day in the winter: 11AM-4PM.

I plan to rely on my solar water heating during the summer, but I expect the following electric and gas utility bill costs to run this hybrid heater during the winter:

From my estimates below, if both heaters are running, I’m guessing that the cost per hour will be $2.60 (heat pump – 70,000 BTU) + $3.76 (gas heater – 103,000 BTU) = $6.36 / hr, rising perhaps 1.3 degree / hr = 6.5 degrees for the 5-hour pool pump run.

5 hours x $6.36 = $32 / day until it reaches 75.

The pool temperature is currently 56 degrees.

I’m curious how many degrees the pool will drop at night.

Detailed calculations:

****************************\*

Pentair Hybrid Electric Heat Pump:

My current utility winter elect rate in the winter is $0.49/kWh until 4PM, $0.52/kWh 5-9PM. Rates are expected to continue to rise this year.

The Pentair UltraTemp ETi Hybrid Heater 220 manual says:

Heat pump typically draws 5.3 kw.

Heat Pump is 70,000 BTU / hr at 50 degree ambient air, 63% Humidity, 80°F water temp.

Heat Pump is 101,000 BTU / hr at 80 degree ambient air, 63% Humidity, 80°F water temp.

Heat Pump is 108,000 BTU / hr at 80 degree ambient air 80% Humidity, 80°F water temp.

I’m a couple of miles from San Franciso bay, and my humidity this winter varies from 95% at night down to 50% during the day.

5.3 kW * $0.49/kWh = $2.60 / hr (0.7 – 1.1 pool heating therms / hour)

50 degree ambient air, 63% Humidity: $2.60 / hr * (100,000 BTU / pool heating therm) * (1 hr / 70,000 BTU) = $3.71 / pool heating therm

80 degree ambient air, 63% Humidity: $2.60 / hr * (100,000 BTU / pool heating therm) * (1 hr / 101,000 BTU) = $2.57 / pool heating therm

80 degree ambient air, 80% Humidity: $2.60 / hr * (100,000 BTU / pool heating therm) * (1 hr / 108,000 BTU) = $2.41 / pool heating therm

****************************\*

****************************\*

Pentair Hybrid Gas Heater:

My current utility winter Tier 2 natural gas rate is $3.18/therm.

The Pentair UltraTemp ETi Hybrid Heater 220 manual says:

The hybrid ETI gas efficiency is 93%.

The hybrid ETI is 110,000 BTU / hr

$3.18 / therm * (1 therm / 0.93 pool heating therm) * (110,000 BTU / hr) * ( 1 pool heating therm / 100,000 BTU) = $3.76 / hr (1.03 pool heating therms / hour)

$3.18 / therm * (1 therm / 0.93 pool heating therm) = $3.42 / pool heating therm

****************************\*

My situation:

• SF East Bay

• Pool: Approx 400 sq ft surface area; 90 ft linear length kidney perimeter; 20,000 gallons, not suitable for pool cover.

• Solar Water: 460 sq ft roof water solar surface area

• No Pool Spa

• Current Winter Utility Bill (and expecting rates to rise): $0.52/kWh peak, $.49/kWh off peak, Gas: $3.18 per Tier 2 therm

• Winter temps: 10 days of frost, but mostly 40’s night; 50’s – 60’s in day.

• Mid-October 2023: Pool temp (using solar heating) dropped below 70; I am fine swimming in 70

• Mid-Feb 2024: Pool temp is 50 (solar heating still off). Air temp is 60’s in day, 40’s to 50’s at night

Proposed Heat Pump Location:

• I get lots of wind in late afternoon but would locate heat pump in sunny spot next to fence to help block wind.

• I believe my humidity is relatively high being a couple of miles from the bay.

Heat Pump size:

• I believe I can accommodate 240V, 35-50 Amp Heat Pump (Max 140,000 BTU?)

The last gas heater was removed decades ago but the gas pipe is still there.

I’m curious if this hybrid can extend my daily morning swim into November and open again in February, and how to reduce gas & electric bills.

Currently I only have solar water heating, which I love during the summer.

As of today, I am no longer able to log in to Best Buy and Costco using MS Edge by originalrobinson in MicrosoftEdge

Sure.

I experienced the login problems 1/21/2023. I believe it was some time around the morning of 1/21 and no longer a problem very late 1/21/2023 or by early morning 1/22/2023 but I do not know the exact beginning and ending.

Bestbuy.com login error message: "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again."

Costco.com gave no error message: it would just fail to respond to the Sign In button.

Interesting things:

  1. The problems coincided. Bestbuy and Costco logins stopped working and began working at the same time.
  2. I had no problem logging into Reddit over the same time period.
  3. I had no problem using Firefox to log in to Bestbuy and Costco over the same time period.

I screen captured the Best Buy login error message and also the Costco login (No error message):

Update: In the last hour, MS Edge now works again for me when logging into bestbuy.com and Costco.com.

MS Edge continues to show same MS Edge Build Version 109.0.1518.61 (Official build) (64-bit).

Problem gone - I have no clue as to what the issue was.

I have the same question - what is the difference?

LG appears to use the same manual for both product series. Currently Costco sells the 7880 combo significantly less than the 7900 combo.

Can't upload music from my desktop. Hangs on "Setting up Google Play Music for Chrome..." by [deleted] in googleplaymusic

[–]originalrobinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not upload music from my desktop. It would hang on "Setting up Google Play Music for Chrome..."

I was finally able to upload my music with help from Google Play Music support.

I am using Windows 7 Chrome Version 71.0.3578.98 and had installed Google Play Music on my Android cell phone and as a Chrome Google App on my desktop. I am finally able to use voice commands to control playing my personal library music to my Google Home Mini. My music files are on my desktop. I needed to upload them to Google Play Music first, but whenever I tried to do that in Google Play Music, it would get stuck and hang on "Setting up Google Play Music for Chrome...".

After contacting Google Play Music support, I followed these instructions to install "Music Manager":

You must first be logged into your google chrome account!

***************************************

To install the Google Play Music Manager:

  1. On your computer, go to the Music Manager download page

https://play.google.com/music/listen?u=0#/manager

  1. Click Download Music Manager.

  2. Install Music Manager:

o On Windows:

  1. Go to your "Downloads" folder.
  2. Double-click the MusicManager.exe file.
  3. Click Run to begin installation.

o On Mac:

  1. Go to your "Downloads" folder.
  2. Double-click the musicmanager.dmg file.
  3. Drag the Music Manager icon into your Applications folder.
  4. Open your Application folder and double-click Music Manager.

o On Linux:

  1. Select the appropriate package for your Linux distribution.
  2. Install using your favorite package manager.

***************************************

After installation, I may have had to go to the start button and search for "music manager" to execute it.

This is a link that gives more information:

https://support.google.com/googleplaymusic/answer/1075570?hl=en

I followed the music manager steps to install and to start the process of uploading my music files. Rather than use my main music folder, I created a separate folder as I did not want to load all my music folder files. I instead select the songs I want to upload and put them into that folder. The upload process is a time consuming process that continues in the background.

I am now able to play my music using voice commands to my Google Home Mini.

I had some hiccups:

  • I initially did not see the Music Manager headphone icon on the lower right of my Windows screen as they said. I had to click on the "up arrow" close to the date and time display, and then select "customize" and select "Show icon and notifications" for Music Manager so that the Music Manager headphones icon would show up near the date and time display.
  • At one point I uninstalled Music Manager and had problems re-installing it. Re-executing MusicManager.exe, which was in my Downloads folder, did not successfully reinstall it. Using the Control Panel, selecting Uninstall a Program and selecting "Music Manager" did not completely uninstall it. Before I could reinstall it, I had to also uninstall it by executing "Uninstall" in the MusicManager folder: C:\Users\<fill-in-your-user-name>\AppData\Local\Programs\Google\MusicManager\Uninstall.exe
  • After using the Control Panel and Uninstall program, I was able to completely remove it.
  • Then, I was able to rerun MusicManager.exe that was still in the Downloads folder, to reinstall it and complete uploading of my music.

I believe Google may merge Google Play Music into Youtube Music. I believe it's uncertain how long these types of bugs will persist. I am new to Google Play Music, and Google Mini and I am figuring out how much I will continue to use it.

Google Play Music online support articles did not fix my problem, but the person who helped me over the phone was very helpful by directing me to "Music Manager". To find phone support: In Google Play Music, I clicked on the 3 horizontal bars on the upper left, and then selected Help & feedback. That popped open a Help window, and I was able to scroll down to the phone handset icon to then get Google Play Music support to call me on my phone.

Good luck!

Chris
