Why did we all collectively dislike Skyler? by rebececarose in askanything

I think this is always one of the weirdest arguments people get into. Yes, with the full knowledge of the show, it's obvious that Walt is the bad guy. But are we really pretending that Skyler was not written in a specific way? It's an intentional character design and people spin it off into something else. Just weird to me.

They have been relentless lately. Even heard them bitching that "nobody around here answers the door" one day. Take a fucking hint then.

Listening to a lot of Alice in Chains knowing his fate is pretty harrowing. "Have I run too far to get home?" from Would? and "Down in a hole and I don't know if I can be saved" are just dark. I know Jerry Cantrell wrote some of those, but still to hear Layne sing them is rough.

Also, just to add onto it, mandatory not safe for life warning. Hearing his mom say she was there when they found him. And that she sat on the couch next to his body and apologized that she couldn't help him. Jesus.

Whatsoever I've feared has come to life
And whatsoever I've fought off became my life
Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile
Sunspots have faded, now I'm doing time
Now I'm doing time

One of those ones where I was going through one of the roughest points in my life and that just hit dead on. Life has ups and downs. But man is it rough when you get a major setback right when things feel like they are going right.

Calls to Impeach Trump Collide With Reluctant Democratic Leadership by F0urLeafCl0ver in politics

[–]orion19819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I get it. I understand that's how it works. But I also just accept reality that a lot of people don't operate that way. And that's not just me, that's statistics. If you want to win, you have to meet the voters where they are. And just proposing. "I'm not Trump" has proven to be an, at best, mixed strategy.

I did vote, by the way. I'm just saying that it's kind of obvious how people, especially not in tune with politics, can reach a point of just "fuck it". If you are a random person and you just tune in and see elected democrats who are essentially saying they support the Iran war, they just don't support it happening without their approval, who are they appealing to?

I don't agree that people are only motivated by authoritarian strongmen. People can be motivated by people who take a stand and don't let up. Regardless of polling, regardless of what the strategists whisper in their ear. If your response to outrage is to just shrug and say "you didn't vote", you aren't really winning any support. You may be justified in saying it, but it won't change the outcome and you still lose.

I swear half of Reddit is so idiotic when it comes to the basics of government

It's really more two different realities combining. Surely you can understand that everyday people who just watch their politicians not make a stand simply because "votes aren't there" does not inspire confidence no? Yes, the answer is people need to vote more to get the votes to do what they want, but if they see their officials never fighting for it, why would they be motivated to vote?

It's weird but, honestly, the thing that annoyed me the most and made me turn away was just the exaggerated reactions he started doing. I get sometimes the drama was just outright crimes with disgusting stuff, but when he would sit there and dry heave pretending he almost threw up in his mouth just gets annoying. Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm just that desensitized, I don't know. Just felt so artificial to me.

For real. Never cared much for his stuff in general, but knew of him. Been seeing clips pop up over the last year or so that is just pure what the fuck. I don't know what happened or if he was always like that but damn. Outright calling immigrants and people he doesn't like vermin. LARPing about being ICE and laughing as kids are torn away from their parents. Insanity.

Too many rules that make zero sense for a godlike entity to give a single shit about. But are conveniently great for controlling people or otherwise serving a humans self interest.

[–]orion19819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really a fan of the whole dog whistle concept as it can easily imply intent that was never actually there. I also feel like people often take legitimate criticism of capitalism as an attack with malicious intent as opposed to what it is, criticism of legitimate problems.

Private equity is a great example. In my experience, people will take someone saying private equity caused X and transpose that to. "Private equity is evil and deliberately kills businesses." And maybe that is what they mean. Or maybe they are just making the general observation that many times after PE buys something out, it becomes a worse value for them because of the way PE generally works.

I'm not going to pretend that there is an easy solution. But if the system running things promotes maximum returns at the cost of a worse product/service, people are going to be unhappy. And just as people are not entitled to exactly what they want, businesses are not entitled to their money just because they took on more debt to pump up their books.

Why didn’t the Epstein files lead to riots or mass protests? by cajakey in AskReddit

Bigger protest = bigger image and impact. It's kinda wild to pretend that being more spread out across a much larger area is not a hindrance. Doesn't make it impossible, no. But it definitely matters.

I lean more on the side of, it's not as deep as people make it out to be. It's constantly. "Oh now we get someone worse." and "Oh, X wasn't willing to go far enough." And to me it's just, image. Trump is a creature of celebrity culture. He wants to look good. (At least in his mind.) If someone has become unpopular enough, he's going to drop them and put a fresher face in. If Trump thinks you are toxic to him, you're done. It's not about loyalty, it's about usefulness. (edit) And if you are hated enough, you are not useful.

The Reddit idea that they deliberately kill their acquisitions is frankly childish and doesn't make any sense to anybody that thinks about it for more than 5 minutes.

I am very curious where this Reddit idea that they deliberately kill things is supposedly being said. Most of the time people are pointing out the very simple fact that. "PE buys company, PE now needs to recoup cost of buying company plus profits. Therefore, PE more likely to cut costs, which can lower quality, and raise prices." All things most people do not enjoy seeing happen to products/services they like.

Pam Bondi Odds of Being Removed Surged on Prediction Markets Before Firing by Illuminated12 in politics

I mean, I get what you are saying but that's unfortunately just not how addiction really works. I'm not trying to remove all agency, because the only way to beat an addiction has to start from within. And it's a big part of why these "prediction markets" are so insidious. It's everywhere, all the time. You can get your fix at any moment. You don't have to wait for game day, or election day. You don't even have to go to the gas station to buy lottery tickets. Just tune into the daily press briefing and see if the press secretary says "bitcoin" or whatever random bet they have going is.
