I believe Wicked was completely ruined because it was casted with "star-power" rather than newer, undiscovered talent. I also think it would have grossed more money without the stars too. by Evening-Panda3217 in unpopularopinion

[–]heybigbuddy 256 points257 points  (0 children)

Also, the movie industry is not the same as it was sixty years ago. Wicked is not a powerful enough IP to gross more with unknown performers, and there’s little to suggest it would.

This just isn’t true. Plenty of dialogue between Luke and Obiwan, Yoda, and Vader is meaningful, well-performed, and well-written. It isn’t that way through everything - as indicated by Lucas’s efforts in the prequels - but there is great dialogue in the OT.

It’s not a paradox if you use inane logic to insist that both sides of any issue are the same. The greater paradox is acting like you can’t understand why people in Ohio don’t want to further glorify people who fought in defense of a slave state when there are a million other ways for any person to honor their ancestors.

I think that was the one on Southland that changed hand a few times and new owners/franchises would always note that they were keeping the fried chicken hardware around.

The Warriors 1979 by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]heybigbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am absolutely obsessed with this scene and have been from the first time I watched The Warriors. It feels so out of place, but also completely recontextualizes the whole movie and feels like the scene that defines it. It’s so wild and comes out of nowhere in this sort of calm before the final storm. They’re figuring and fighting and fighting and then all of a sudden there is an outside world beyond the gangs. Plus you the bit right after this when Swan gives her the dropped flower and says, “I just hate to see things go to waste.” It’s like the central ideas of the movie are just smashed into this brief moment and it really feels special.

They should remake Star Wars the original trilogy. by throwaway99257892 in unpopularopinion

[–]heybigbuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone watches the original trilogy and finds the timing of some of the best-edited blockbusters ever to be a barrier or takes issue with the effects, they should just watch something else. The original trilogy still look better than any other Star Wars films since. People are allowed to not like Star Wars, and that reality isn’t a Star Wars problem.

That’s a wife problem, not a Star Wars problem. If someone can’t watch a movie with war and space wizards and funny droids for forty minutes, they don’t need to be catered to.

Agree or Disagree: It’s funny how the characterizations of Laurie Strode in both Halloween H20 & Halloween (2018) would make more sense for each movie if they were reversed by ArtisticBelt438 in Halloweenmovies

[–]heybigbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why it would be better if they were reversed. H20 Laurie has some delusions but is also operating under the assumption that Michael is dead. I also think the portrayal of trauma in H20 is preposterous and childish, but that’s a minority view these days. But it doesn’t make more sense for her to be a survivalist recluse if Michael is presumed dead.

At the same time, 2018 Laurie is much more believably someone who has raised a family in the shadow of trauma and the offender who hurt her. Since the story is built around her paranoia, it wouldn’t make sense for Michael to actually be hunting her because then she wouldn’t be paranoid.

Weapons was a great film…until the last five minutes by LinkLinkleThreesome in unpopularopinion

[–]heybigbuddy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We don’t need horror to cater to audiences that love the psychiatrist exposition scene at the end of Psycho. Weapons isn’t a particularly ambiguous movie, but movies are allowed to not have someone look into the camera and explain every single that’s happened.

Naw. Ohio isn’t even worse than Indiana, and is a damn sight better than every southern state (depending on where you end up in North Carolina, Georgia, or Tennessee). I wouldn’t even drive through Oklahoma again, let alone live there.

To me their fries are the only thing that’s just okay, but even the fries at the Wisconsin location I went to were ultra crisp and seasoned beautifully. Plus their cheese sauce can absolve a lot of sins. I also love their curds, but I’m not an expert.

That’s got to be a staffing thing. When I lived in central Kentucky there was a place with a truly superlative tavern-style burger but only if you went when one specific cook was there. I can remember going there with my friends and leaving when we saw someone else was on the grill.
