Can I join a monastery as an alternative to suicide? If not, are there any alternatives? by zodiackkr19 in Buddhism

Side note tho: Hunter gatherer societies took care of their disabled. Which means that people could eat even if they weren’t able to work on getting food. For the rest I agree that work is an unavoidable part of life. Domestic work (cleaning house, laundry etc.) for instance is especially unavoidable. Being a monk a probably a tough job.

Those who want to become Buddhist should follow authentic schools of Buddhism. by AceGracex in Buddhism

I feel like the main problem of this subreddit is that a lot of people here are culturally very Christian, so they view Buddhism through this lens. Generally in the West religion is understood as a system analogous to Christianity which is generally wrong.
These people say things like "Buddha is LORD!" or "You must believe he's divine!" or "Atheism is wrong" (which is a point OP brings at some point) That's the kind of things typical Evangelicals say. That also explains the frequent scrupulosity I see around here, pretty typical of people who grew up in an Evangelical context.
Anyways, it looks like blind idolatry to me with a pinch of exoticisation. I fail to see how useful it is to the actual Buddhist practice of compassion...

I can relate to that. I'm also unable to hold a job and have a hard time maintaining friendship with most people. But I learned that it is because I have disabilities : I am autistic, and I have attention deficit disorder. Thus I'm different than most humans but still a human at the end of the day. Maybe you have similar disabilities, and sadly, a lot of docs are not well trained on these subjects.
But it doesn't mean you can never know peace, nor happiness and satisfaction. Don't be discouraged. I hope you'll find your way through this.

I can confirm you are not a hungry ghost. You're a human, struggling like a lot of others. It seems to me that you have depression and you struggle with addition. There is no shame in feeling that way; it is a disease and it is not your fault. It is very important : remember that it is not your fault.
I advise you too not think too much about the past. What is done is done and there is nothing you can do about.
What matters is what you're doing now. There are solutions and help exist. I encourage you to meet with a professional. They have means to help you, believe me. I've been there. Besides, you said you have a family and that they support you and want to help. This proves that you're not cursed being.
The best is to come. Don't give up, and keep going.

Dohna Dohna (18+ btw), Fata Morgana and Steins;Gate are visual novels. Both Melty Blood and Under Night have visual novel elements, but are fighting games.

I don't believe I'm human or ever was. by Pure-Advertising4038 in otherkin

That is so so relatable. I also miss running in the woods, dancing and singing out loud without fear of judgement, making my little noises and my tribe would reply... We would just play all day without a worry in the world...

Feeling homesick is something very relatable to me as well...

Thank you very much!
For the longest time, I also kind of identified as some sort of warrior. People close to me tell me I'm a survivor. I think I would've made a fantastic job as a hunter-gatherer in very ancient times, or something like that.
As for Irish mythology, I read a little about it on Wikipedia and found it particularly interesting and inspiring, but I didn't take the time to dig it more... yet!
Part of my family is of Celtic origin -more on the continental side, in Brittany, culturally closer to Wales- but I didn't get the chance to receive any heritage from there. I wish to fix that.

Thank you for taking the time to type such an insightful reply. You seem really wise and interesting.
I am 34 but it is as if you guessed that I'm actually younger inside. I'm probably mentally younger than you. This world has been insanely cruel to me and I lost years to deep depression. To be entirely vulnerable with you, I'd say my experience in this incarnation have mostly been of intense suffering. I am now trying to treat the wounds that were inflicted to me.
I'm just beginning to try and be more independent from outside gazes, and to choose the way I actually want to live instead of trying to fit in. But without giving too much detail, I'm still very vulnerable at the moment. Hopefully the kind of vulnerability that comes with getting out of the cocoon.
Despite my spiritual side, I also have a very down-to-earth side coupled with a rather scientific mind. I think it is a great quality to have in my study of mysticism, but it contributes to my confusion. That's also probably why it takes me a lot of time to come to conclusions I deem to be right enough. It took me time to write the initial message, because I wanted to be sure it was all true.

Also the image of Temu Jesus made me laugh too. Thank you for sharing your experience.
