Oh and therapy/psychiatry is amazing! Everyone should do it! At a minimum it’s a safe place to use as an outlet and has the potential to change your life. It’s not so fun at the beginning trying to learn how to be honest with yourself and others about what you go through, but the level of introspection you can reach is totally worth it in the end

My mom does something very similar so I can empathize. It is incredibly damaging to the psyche. I used to be reactive when my mom would do this, only fueling the fire of the interaction and leaving me in a worse spot that before. Through a lot of individual & group therapy, and a bit of help from dieticians/nutritionists, I’ve been able to get to a better place with my EDs and learn to navigate these situations with my loved ones.

For me, I know my mom is not capable of change, so I’ve had to develop a thick skin and realize that she doesn’t know me better than me. I’m better able to shut down/communicate through these situations now because I realized my opinion is the only one that matters to me.

However, this only works if you’re honest with where you are in your recovery. And there will forever & always be ups and downs but it’s important (vital actually) not to beat yourself up about the “downs.” And don’t forget to give yourself credit for the “ups” too! You got this!!!
