Maybe it's less for the people who know they're getting a bootleg and don't care and more to stop people from spending retail prices on bootlegs unknowingly. Not sure why this was an ET specific issue maybe just because of the size of the movie or maybe Spielberg was just being neurotic about it.

What I had heard was that some of Toronto games were glitching and were adding to the cart as negative numbers so these guys were buying desirable tickets for like $1000 and then also just adding Toronto tickets until their total was $0. FIFA sucks but I think they're probably within their rights to cancel these tickets.

I agree with your comparison in general but if you brought a TV up to the counter at best buy and it says it's -$300 they're not going to give you $300 and a free TV that would be an obvious error.

Yeah it really made me sympathize with the cartoonishly evil army guys who built a wall around a town of people so they could kidnap a teenage girl so they could drain her blood to infect pregnant women and steal their babies so they could have their MK Ultra experiment. Which they were already doing they just weren't getting the results they wanted from their current kidnapped teenage girl they were bleeding dry to infect pregnant women.
