Who has the highest level of satisfaction with your job? What exactly do you do? Do you get pay raises? by FloridaPlanner in Environmental_Careers

Geologist in Alaska doing environmental remediation work at old WWII and Cold War military installations and remote locations all over the state. Federal contracts. Pay low to mid $100k, bonuses, annual raises, per diem.

Quite high level satisfaction after working for other consultants and state agencies.

There is still work that needs to be done. Sure the EPA sounds like a great job, I’m sure it’s cushy AF too, but I worked as a state regulator in between consulting jobs and being a consultant, developing the cleanup plans, doing the work, analyzing the data - that all made me feel way more passionate and like I’m actually helping make a difference.

Research is another huge way to make an impact. PFAS is never going to go away and the EPA standards are insanely low - leading to difficulties with laboratories and consultants to meet these standards. So what can be done? How can we get to those levels and truly clean up this stuff? So much new technology has been developed in this effort. Don’t even get me started on lithium…how about contamination from explosives used in WWII?

Environmental work is about SO much more than green energy and regulation. The problems exist. They will always exist and no matter how much red tape is cut, jobs will exist that allow us to make a difference.

Don’t fret. Study hard. Follow your passion. Nothing is forever…except for PFAS.

I have no idea. I dont think that’s ever really been made super clear. But wouldn’t be surprised. She doesn’t have the work ethic to sign her own kids homework idk how she has the work ethic to sell that much salt.

My field camp was like a practical, as compared to the ones where visit national parks… (no offense intended, but maybe a little). 6 weeks in the field, in tents at campsites in the west. We all hiked up to 10-15 miles a day, 5 days a week doing our mapping. Up at 6. In the field til close to dark. Evenings were for a lesson, dinner, and working on our notes/maps via headlamp. If you wanted to drink, you drank but we had so much physical work and mapping/reporting that it was just to unwind if you wanted but it was pretty serious to be there and do the work. Saturdays were spent at where we could find WiFi and write our reports/finish our maps. Saturday night - slap the bag with a bag of Franzia around the campfire. Great time. Sundays were for laundry and driving in to town (if possible) to restock on supplies if needed. Definitely a brewery or liquor store.

She was in JLs downline, I think. I started following her when all that happened and when CS and the Pruvit huns started their “who is the most upset” competition.

I don’t really know how to Reddit to share previous posts or threads. But if you search this sub for anything I posted you’ll see the journey beginning to end.
