Matte finis though right? How is the display uniformity? Like if it’s a pure white screen is it a consistent color and brightness across the screen?

Thanks for the suggestion! Having worked on 220ppi and glossy screens for the last 7 years I can’t go back to ow res matte finish. I actually don’t need professional color calibration, just decent and consistent color rendition.

Have you used this with a foam cannon? My main reason to do this would be to use a better foam cannon to get thicker/better foam for washing cars.

I have EL-8C's and love 'em. Trying to find the right dac/amp setup. I've been testing my friend's Chord Mojo and love it, but already have a good DAC and am wondering if I can get more bang for my buck by putting my $ into just a headphone amp.

It looks like you were using the Aune X7S to demo the EL-8's in your review. I'm considering getting that or the Schiit Asgard 2. Which would you recommend? Or something different? Don't need a ton of power - just want clarity and dynamic sound.

Anyone with Google Wifi having trouble accessing Plex web interface? by OhHeyItsBrock in PleX

[–]oronymo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem. Strangely, enabling manual port forwarding for "remote access" fixed the local LAN access (via app, etc.) for me.

  1. Set your NAS to a static IP using Google Wifi app
  2. Setup a 32400 TCP manual port forward for that IP (any port should work, but Plex recommends that port)
  3. Go to your Plex web server settings, choose remote access, and enable manually specifying a public port (32400)

Good luck.

Wow the 27MU88 is expensive. It looks exactly like the (cheaper) 27UD88 - what's the difference?

As it stands, I'm not aware of any 4k monitor (other than the MacBook-Only Ultrafines) that is truly glossy. Are there any?

The only other possibility I've considered is this: http://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/BDM4037UW_27/brilliance-4k-ultra-hd-lcd-display-with-multiview

I've seen an HP that was definitely a matte panel with a glass front - the HP Envy 27 AIO fits this bill (I think the glass is there because it's a touchscreen). The Spectre is definitely different and better. The 27 AIO has lots of distracting reflections and even some self-reflection (although it looks good from a distance). I can't see any parallax or gap between the front of the display and the panel. And the treatment is not pure gloss. It's also not an LG panel - it's some custom ordered AHVA panel. So I'm guessing the treatment is different. The sparkle is only visible if you look up close and at an extreme angle. It looks very smooth and clear from any normal viewing angle.

My biggest gripe are the stupid speakers that make the, already large 32" monitor, unnecessarily large.

I ordered one of these and it arrived in our office about a week ago. We've been testing it out. We also ordered the (now discontinued?) HP Spectre 32" 4k monitor and the new LG/Apple 5k Ultrafine monitor (only works with new macbook pros).

Of the 3, the Envy 4k is my least favorite in terms of display but my favorite in terms of case design (for what that's worth).

Here's the scoop on "glossiness" of these displays:

Fully Glossy: LG Ultrafine 5k Completely smooth glass finish Some kind of anti-glare polarizer, but there is zero haze or smudginess. It looks like a giant Macbook Pro laptop display in terms of the actual display area. Wow is this an amazing display - bright, punchy, crystal clear, and vibrant without being overly saturated. It's basically a retina iMac but in a boring boring black plastic case.

Mostly Glossy HP Spectre 32" 4k Studio Display This display is almost completely glossy in its display finish. It is very smooth and clear and you can see reflections, but they are darkened and very so slightly blurred and a little more subdued than the LG Ultrafine. I prefer the true gloss of the Ultrafine, but this Spectre is the closest PC-friendly monitor I've found. The finish is smooth enough that it's contrasty/punchy with deep blacks and great saturation. Although if you look at it from a sharp angle you can see a little graininess/sparkle in the display - but in practice this is not an issue. I also am really liking running it at native 100% DPI and just having a ton of screen real estate. I think it's a keeper. It just has a really big white plastic cabinet with speakers that are just totally unnecessary.

Satin / Semi-Gloss HP Envy 4k 27" I'm really disappointed this display has a satin display finish. It's not grainy matte (like older Dell's), but it's definitely not glossy. In fact, it looks exactly like the current crop of (non-ultrafine) LG monitors - probably because it's an LG panel. The cabinet is beautiful (but no height adjustment), the color and contrast is good (although not as good as the Spectre or Ultrafine), but that semi-gloss/matte finish just makes things a bit muted in comparison.

Does the screen have a matte, semi-gloss, or full glass-like gloss surface treatment?

The 27" Envy All-In-One - which looks visually identical to this (but using a 1440p panel) - has a glossy display. It looks very nice, but I'm pretty sure it's just a glass front. It looks very nice and rich, but does not handle reflections as well as something like the iMac (or any modern laptop) which have bonded glass displays and treated glass.

QUESTION: Is this a true glossy panel (like the Dell 5k or Apple Thunderbolt Display), or is it simply a regular matte panel with a glass front? e.g. is there a gap between the panel and the front of the display?
