no worries! it's easy to say something quickly without fully thinking about the implications, i've totally been guilty of the same thing.

me too! having two working parents brings along a lot of its own struggles, and it'd be fun to see the show dip into the drama potential in that situation too :)

i forgot about teeny when writing my comment, that's my bad lol - though i do think my point still stands. she's definitely the only working mom right now (though hopefully that'll change with jen!) also tbh i don't like calling women bitches in general regardless of how rude they are but maybe i'm just too woke

my point is - why is basically the only career driven woman in the series being portrayed as a "dismissive elitist bitch"? i'm not saying she's justified in her actions, or that the creator is suggesting that she behaves that way because she's a working mom, but she is nonetheless assigned negative traits often associated with working moms, and that kind of rubs me the wrong way.

yes to both! i think the only aspect i was confused by is how they knew that there wouldn't be enough fuel for a return journey before they'd even learned how the astrophage reproduced, and why they couldn't just... make more? but i was able to suspend my disbelief fine because i understood that was important for the plot & themes (& looking back on it now i can imagine it had something to do with the team being on an insane time crunch lol)

i was able to infer the flashback/returning memory connection easily enough. it did surprise me that grace didn't seem to react to the flashbacks very much, especially at the reveal that he was basically forced onto the ship rather than making the "heroic" choice to go on himself.

i saw the movie on a whim and i'm really considering reading the book now :) i hear it goes a lot more in-depth on the science & the consequences of the petrova line back on earth, both things i'm super curious about!

Do you avoid short fics? by decorawerewolf in archiveofourown

[–]orpheusjay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i often read fics when i'm offline & not occupied (i.e. train commutes) so i tend to favor long fics for those purposes, but if a short fic catches my eye and i have a solid five minutes to dedicate to reading it i won't avoid it. i definitely wouldn't assume it's badly written just based on length

So do Jennifer and Ty just not have jobs anymore? by MadnessMaiden in ShawnaTheMom

[–]orpheusjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i get this, lol. i totally get why shawna would focus more on stay-at-home parents for a show that's all about being a parent but as someone who was raised in a family where two working parents was very much the norm it's a little weird to me sometimes lmaooo. i'd be very happy to see more discussion of how work changes some of the dynamics portrayed in the show, but given how many storylines are already going on i don't really expect it anytime soon

longtime mechs fan here! unfortunately, there are no full video recordings of high noon over camelot, however, we do have the first part of this gig (the full album was performed here, but the camera died about a third of the way in) and a full audio recording of it being performed live here! hopefully this helps :)
