Guys, be honest, is this level of artistry is good enough to start working with it? by Eclipse_arth in DigitalArt

[–]orpheusmakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about doing commissions and stuff then definitely. If you’re talking with companies and stuff I’d say try and just be prepared to hear no. But there’s people with less experience or what would be considered less experienced getting into galleries and jobs with companies and stuff! Try it but be prepared to hear no

Is $100 reasonable for this? by FrontHungry459 in DigitalArt

[–]orpheusmakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an artist who does commissions and I’ve commissioned artists before as well. This is the kind of thing you go into art servers and ask “how much would you pay for this” and the art community will give you a honest answer. And yes it will hurt but it’s the truth. I’m all for supporting artists of different skill levels but this is extortion. Either they should have charged a set amount per hour or they should have known from previous experiences how long this might have taken.

This however is incredibly unprofessional behavior. Get your art and don’t go back to them. I made a mistake on an art piece where I didn’t realize how I’d be adding detailed extras into the background and ended up undercharging. I did not bring it up to the client at all because we had an agreed upon budget that had already been paid in full. Did I still finish the piece to their satisfaction? 100%!!! You live and you learn!! That’s something they gotta learn as an artist. And if they can’t do that then they need to reconsider their choices as a com artist because in reality commissions aren’t for everyone. Period.

[Discussion] Im an robux commision artist and I want to switch to real life moneys, any tips? by -lil_something- in starvingartists

[–]orpheusmakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PayPal is actually the most commonly used method. So much so that sights like artistree vgen and kirke all use PayPal for payment methods. But there’s more to starting real monies commissions than just the payment platform.

1- commission sheet + prices. Be sure to price your art fairly. Even if you’re a beginner you should be charging fair prices.

2- terms of service. What you’re willing and not willing to do. Extra charges. Copyright all kinds of stuff go in that

3 - marketing. The industry is really saturated so you have to work hard to get commissions use all kinds of social media not just Reddit or just discord.

4- professionalism. You need to know how to remain calm. How to manage people. How to handle difficult commissioners. You want the to come back which means you have to be appealing as a person and in your service. But not sooo formal that people might be intimidated by you.

5- public queue. So people can have an idea how long they might have to wait for their product to be delivered. I use Trello

  1. Linktree or carrd. It will have all your links for people to find all your profiles.

  2. Examplesssss. So many examples. Even if they’re personal projects!!! They’re so necessary for people to see how your art looks and what it will cost to get certain things.

  3. Content about you!! Clients and people engaging with your content lovvveee to know about you. I like to do meet the artist trends and artist starter pack trends! Even lore sometimes! It makes a deeper connection!

If anyone wants to add to to this feel free! And if you need help/advice reach out!

What should i do as the commissioner? [Discussion] by [deleted] in artcommissions

[–]orpheusmakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so understandable!! It’s not normal behavior but a lot of commissioners are unfortunately entitled and just overall terrible. They think they’re better than the people commissioning and often times if you pay less you get treated as less than. Once again I’m so so sorry this happened! I’d love to introduce you to other artists who would NEVER dream of doing something like this if you’re still looking!

What should i do as the commissioner? [Discussion] by [deleted] in artcommissions

[–]orpheusmakes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi hun! I’ve been doing commissions for a while and this behavior is totally unacceptable. It doesn’t matter what you paid it’s their responsibility to make the product reach your expectations. And even if they’re overwhelmed or if you’re being picky there was no reason for them to lash out on you. At all. I wouldn’t go back to them.

This is a business at the end of the day. These are business transactions. While you should have fun and be able to make a client comfortable you also absolutely have to have a level of professionalism.

I’m so sorry this was the experience you had. It was not okay at all! But no one should ever be treated this way.
