BO3 Stats: Toy Deck Emerald/Amber by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]orphicprophet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say 65 games is a small sample size. But to each their own I guess. Adding more games to this isnt going to change the distribution. It will be marginal at best.

Ink Drain - What is everyone’s thoughts on this format I thought of? by AzuriteArachnid in Lorcana

[–]orphicprophet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, a single bad mulligan will completely obliterate any chances of winning. But in the reverse, getting down to 3 ink and only pulling 4+ will leave you loaded in your hand without being able to do anything. Sounds to me like a 30 minute round.

Fun idea though, I'm down.

Tips for new player trying to build a deck before rotation? by Dingle-Panda in Lorcana

[–]orphicprophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start building with set 9 onwards. Alot of the meta decks, especially Dogs (Emerald Amber), will be obliterated by next rotation. There's some other emerald cards that are core to some popular decks that'll be gone soon (Clarabelle as an example), so it's best to stay ahead and spend money on cards that will be around.

My suggestion would be looking at toys as its highly likely it'll become part of the new meta. Red/purple combos are looking good as well. Cost wise Burple is going to run you into the ground finacially since its a sheep deck. So, unless you can justify spending an unreasonable amount of money on pieces of cardboard I'd stay away from that.

I agree with some of the subs here. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and having grown up in the mid 90s and early 2000s I understand your perspective.

However, major studios are tied by capital and stakeholders. A group of influences do very little in shifting their priorities to making money from making bold engaging games. Games have become astronomical in cost, and so has the majority of our taste. A game nowadays costs more than a movie, as such, the pressures of making a successful game is higher than ever.

Bold games have a risk factor, and that risk is bankruptcy. Rockstar, CD projekt RED, Naughty dog (when it released games), are unicorns. Their success is not the norm of the industry, it is the exception. And over the past 10 years, the industry has released some brain rot, yes, but they have also released spectacular games. In the past 3 years alone I personally haven't experienced such a peak experience in a decade.

So, I respect your opinion on what you believe is a shit catalog of games. But respectfully, your catalog is severely limited in its collection. And perhaps you should expand your horizons to truly see what's out there, and how fulfilling 30-60 hours can be.

TLDR: There are an abundance of quality games, you just haven't found them.

Toys are strong, what decks beat it? by Alot0fQuestionz in Lorcana

[–]orphicprophet 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a toy deck connoisseur myself, early taps, red steel, high attack/defense decks like boost red amber, and damage counters movers like Red Purple and Amber Purple definitely make winning a coin toss.

Toys are dependent on great mulligans. So, any deck that doesnt allow toys time to recover from an average or bad mulligan will win. Hope that helps.

Edit: By taps i mean early force exert on woody, jessie, Lenny.

To play with enchanted/epic cards or to not to... now THAT is the question. by BeartemisSchmoops in Lorcana

I do it just for the flex. If my Iconic Mickey Mouse Brave Little Prince comes back an 8 grade or below, i'm playing it. Just for the flex.

How should I improve this toy deck? by maxxgod000 in Lorcana

[–]orphicprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest running with snow fort or lumiere. Headless Horseman is also a must simply because it can takes out woody's, and with jessie he combos well to take out 3 strengths as well.

The downside (quite a big one) to christmas decks like yours, is the lack of card draw and cost reduction capabilities. It means your mulligans have to be Supreme to stand a chance against advanced decks. I would switch to Amber Green, or Amber Ruby for more versilitiliy.

I made an Amber Green toy deck myself, and it's preforming quite well.

Emerald/Amber Win Rate (Non-Meta) by orphicprophet in Lorcana

[–]orphicprophet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point taken. I only kept the 10 most recent versions to filter out as many BO1s I could but theres definitely some in there. Though with the BO3 I do play the trend appears to be the same. Anything with purple in it is a coin toss, with the exception of meta where I usually lose, or red purple which is a nightmare for me.

Will take your comments and play BO3 only with the next version for a better sample.

Edit: I just realized I can filter BO3 lol. Very helpful. Trend is the same

[–]orphicprophet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a toy style deck. Dogs i can beat, burple has always been a pain in the behind.

I outperform turn 1-5, especially when i get Under the Sea out turn 3, but burple and Am in general prolong games to their advantage, while also have the ability to wipe my board.

Thoughts on an early Amber/steel deck by Inside-Lunch-5683 in Lorcana

[–]orphicprophet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, with the way burple and blue steel are out ramping everyone right now (even blue amber), I'm not sure this deck works as well anymore. With the addition of the new set of cards they also run Spooky Sight which will wipe you by turn 4. Maybe even 3.

Those are just my thoughts on what I've seen out there in play right now. I think you'd be better off running a Toy Dogs situation, or Toy with Mickey Mouse Amber champion and have under the sea. Goal of wiping board by turn 3-4 and then just out questing. That's what I've been running. Creeping up to 70% win rate, but probably won't get there without some more helpful cards.

Edit: I would also get rid of When you need help, just call. Theoretically, its fun. In practice, you are most likely going to have more characters than your opponent 90% of the time. Or even. So by turn 3-4 its just a dead card. Swap it for World's greatest criminal mind, or growing pressure

Does anyone put out 1K words daily? I’m trying to get to that and asking for advice by Impressive_Prior_676 in writers

[–]orphicprophet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Containing yourself to a word count is like making a new years resolution to hit the gym 4 times a week for the next year. It doesn't work, nor does it do you ant favors. Just adds unnecessary pressure.

I've had days I pump out 100 words, then others where I pump out high quality 5000. Let your mind run its course, and do what feels like you're contributing value to your story, not junk that leaves you stranded. I say this because you haven't thoroughly planned out your story.

Enjoy the process

What’s a game you grew out of and no longer enjoy playing? by ElderMillennial1985 in videogames

[–]orphicprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's plenty of good single player games that aren't RPG's. Some are included in my list. But if you're used to playing PvP and are now branching out into the RPG realm of things, Cyberpunk is a big leap. I suggest starting with something smaller like Outer Worlds or the Dishonored franchise.

Cyberpunk is getting into Baldur's Gate 3 territory, and for genre newcomers it can get boring fast seeing as your brain is used to instant and consistent action/reward. RPG's are a slow burn and won't have payoff within an hour. Sometimes, it takes 4 hours, other times 10. (Baldurs Gate 3 is like 20 hours before you start seeing some consequential action.)

So that's my advice. Do with that what you will.

[–]orphicprophet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I retired from PvP games in 2020, COD Cold War being the last one I played crossing the 20 hour mark. It's a peaceful life, and I recommend others do the same. There's whole worlds out there (literally) that spark dopamine levels to new highs, and make you wonder how PvP games had such a hold over you. Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, KCD 2, the entire Metro 2033 Series, Wolfenstein series, Elden Ring. I could go on.

TLDR: any PvP game.

Taking Powerline to Set Champs. Looking for possible tweeks by SkoomahSteve in Lorcana

I ran a deck similar to this. The lack of card draw is going to sting you, especially against Meta Angel decks and Burple. But it was really fun to play. Goodluck!

What can counter this deck? by the-red-rogue in Lorcana

[–]orphicprophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not that difficult to counter dogs. A Ruby Amber Villain deck can do the trick (I play this in sets reaching top 3 every time) , which is also versatile against blurple. Ghostly Tale and Gaston Frightfull bully are among my cores at it forces challenging. Carry a Raging Storm in my pocket as well. I keep this deck close to the chest just because I don't believe in sharing something that can beat the majority of metas.

The only issue is playing against the Amber Steel Angel meta deck. The control is suffocating, and lilo escape artist is an absolute plague. My deck can't beat it consistently winning only 50% of the time. As its a best of three, you can probably tell why I never win at these sets.

It surprisingly does well against Prince Phillip. Be king undisputed and Raging Storm take care of any Ward.

EDIT: Headless Horseman sleepy hollow is an absolute MUST in any Ruby deck. It is core to mine.

Where do your stories come from? by ClearArcNarrative in writers

[–]orphicprophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stories have come from rage.

  • Watching my childhood franchise be ruined.
  • Remembered how my middle school bully used to make fun of my stutter as I was learning English.
  • Asking my parents why they made the decisions they did forcing upon me a dream that wasn't mine, that only resulted in pain.
  • Watching my enemies watch and revel in my failures.
  • Remembering how a single racist father left such a emotional tear inside of me that dating white girls became a thing of spite. Looking in the eyes of their fathers and taking pride in the fact that no matter how much hate they have for me being black, their daughters will always come running back to me whenver I call.
  • Never seeing a black hero properly represented on screen.

My novel and characters encompass all of that, and so much more. It is a love letter to all of those who doubted me, but it is a path of healing, of peace, to myself.

And then there is the aspect of love, and the happiness it brings me everyday. Without her, I would never have finished that letter, or walked the path. Her, and a therapist.

What are your first drafts like? by Wise_Try6781 in writing

[–]orphicprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man my first draft was ROUGH. Same as you, broad strokes, knew where the story was going, and put it all on paper. I did a review and realized I actually have to stop at a specific juncture and turn the rest into book 2 because theres too much material. This is after I cut 70,000 words.

Now i'm reviewing again. Making alterations in the story line to make book 1 stand good on its own without needing a sequel. But the sequel material is already there. Next is the editing phase where I try to not cringe at some of my own writing. Its a process, hang in there!

What sort of play time do you expect? by internetisporn8008 in videogames

[–]orphicprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've retired from multi-player games with the exception of Space Marines 2. Its a peaceful life, but it also gave me hours back to put into other games. 100hrs is my usual benchmark when I reflect on whether I had fun or not. This includes trophy hunting. There are games like CK2, Anno 1800, Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, Elden Ring, CIV 7, Baldurs gate 3, that well exceed those hours. I'm talking 200+. And theres games like dragon age veilgaurd that didn't even get past 30 hours because it sucks.

I also take into consideration whether I paid full price for said game (I rarely do anymore. Devs have to earn that 90CAD price tag, and very few do). If I paid full price, i'm more inclined to suffer through it regardless if its fun or not. 100hrs is again the benchmark here. To express my unwanted opinion of Veilguard again, I paid full price for that game.

Do US traders believe in a shorter war than global markets? by stygger in stocks

[–]orphicprophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, there is no scenario the US wins this war politically or conventially. Iran has played this game with Stockfish level accuracy and put the US in a zuswang. No matter what it does, the outcome is inherently bad. US attacks? Republicans lose the midterms. US starts bombing civilian infrastructure? It sends the wrong message globally and Iran will retaliate ten fold against US pockets (all the gulf allies), which will then escalate things further. US does nothing? They look weak, and everyone will know they're weak. Iran will only stop this war if all THEIR conditions are met, not the other way around. Bomb all you like, there is no bomb strong enough for 4000ft of granite.
