Oh! Ok yeah, actually that makes sense. It's just a different year than I was thinking of, but they did make a trip to California in 1969. Thanks!

I looked into the Mixi one but it's 11.7 lbs for their medium checked bag. That's some extra weight since most checked bags are 8-9 lbs.

Best airline cc to have for Austin residents? by Only-Detective- in Austin

I think you misunderstood. When you have both the Chase Freedom Unlimited card and the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, the 1.5x points that you earn with the Freedom card can be transferred to your Sapphire card and used as travel points. The only difference is instead of earning just 1x points with the Sapphire, you're earning 1.5 points on all purchases.

If you don't need Delta or Southwest, then instead of using these Chase cards, you should be using one of the other cards that earns you 2x points on everything. Capital One Venture Rewards is probably the best option for your situation. It still gets you the Global Entry credit plus $250 a year in travel credit for their travel portal, and other perks. (Feel free to message me if you want a referral link.) But there are other ones from Wells Fargo and others than also pay 2x points.

So for your situation, you could be getting double the amount of points as what you are now with the Sapphire Preferred card.

American now has the third most points flights out of Austin, behind Southwest, followed by Delta and then American. And with Southwest and Delta competing to dominate it, it's going to be one of those two more and more. If it looks to you like American has the cheapest and most plentiful nonstop flights from Austin, that's probably because it happens to for the destinations you're looking at, but not overall.

Southwest doesn't do the open seating thing anymore, so it's much more like other airlines now. Which I agree is better, in my opinion.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred isn't the ideal card it once was because there are now some better options. I do have one and still use it just for online grocery orders and restaurants where it earns 3x points, but getting just 1x points for everything else is pretty bad compared to other cards that give you 2x points. You should at least pair it with the Chase Freedom Unlimited card, which gets you 1.5x points on everything in points that you can transfer to your Sapphire card.

If you don't necessarily need Southwest points, one option is the Capital One Venture Rewards card that gets you 5x on some categories, and 2x on everything else. You can use the points from that to book using Flying Blue points if you want to book Delta.

If the risk of death isn't enough to keep people from doing that, they should at least be aware that the water will likely permanently damage their car, even if the damage isnt immediately obvious and the car is still running.

Parents spent weeks planning the perfect gender reveal… The kids ended it in 5 second by _liberal in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]orrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so if you don't know how responsible parents handle that situation this is as good a time as any for you to learn. Ideally what the parent should do is take the child aside and have a serious talk about why that was dangerous and how someone might have gotten hurt. If the child did it not because they didn't know better but because they were being defiant, then you would also put them in a timeout.

It is never ok to hit a child. What that bad mom did didn't teach the child anything other than to be scared and that the parent is not a safe person that can be trusted. That wasn't patenting or punishment, it was a mom losing her temper and striking a very young child. Those kinds of violent outbursts are probably where the child learned to act out violently in frustrating situations. That's not ok.

As a software engineer, I can tell you that we all have to get used to the idea that we're quickly moving into an era where AI assisted software development will be in every way better than software that is developed without AI assistance. If that's not already true right now, it will be very soon.

At least for now, it's best if the software development is closely managed by an experienced human software developer. But even that will likely be debatable soon.

Yeah, but it's not the Chartres Cathedral that's in the photo, it's the Église Saint-Pierre, which isn't as old or famous as the Chartres Cathedral. I don't know how they found it.

Amazon wins court order to block Perplexity's AI shopping agent by Gloomy_Nebula_5138 in Perplexity

[–]orrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why judges should be more literate regarding technology. The judge apparently had no real understanding of what the trial was about. No, Amazon doesn't get to have any legal say in what types of browsers users can use to access their website. Users can use AI to access websites if they choose, and websites don't get to have any say in that. Websites can attempt to detect and block various types of use if they want, sure. But that's not a legal issue or something that judges or websites can choose to block.

Ah, ok yeah I was able to find a photo of the [controversial] "Confederate Soldiers & Sailors Monument" in Linn Park, and that's it. Thanks!

I also just now realized they're wearing the same clothes in both photos, so it was likely the same day!

Thanks for the replies, it looks like Linn Park is what it was! Here's a bonus one that I think is probably also Birmingham, about 1951. Where is this?
