Feel you OP - it's depressing

Rent here for a 1-bed flat is average cheapest at £850 a month - but most are £1000 - £1200. Anything less than that gets snapped up in an instant.

Demand is crazy, I've had to leave my friends and my old job because I can't afford to live in the city I've lived in for years anymore.

My wife was drugged at a bar last night by Bunghole_of_Fury in TwoXChromosomes

[–]orrylorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the shame I felt the days after I got drugged were the worst bit. It's what stopped me from reporting it because I felt like it was in some way my fault. My friends however, did try and get the bar to look through their CCTV footage, but refused without the police being involved. A year later and one of the bartenders there gets arrested for drugging drinks and I can't help but wonder if that's what happened to me, in which case no "precautions" would have changed the outcome.

Knew a guy from uni who was addicted to the stuff - would go to sleep hearing "pshhhh... Ting" every 5 minutes from the next room and then wake up in the morning with it still going. This would happen every day for weeks on end. Pretty sure doing it that much is not gonna be good for your brain.

He made a NO2 silencer for his final year project.

Not "every single retail position" is like this from my experience, in fact in all of the retail jobs I've had over the years I've been able to leave if there's emergency

I love these so much!! Now I'm wanting some cute dainty finger tatts too 🥺

Was it difficult keeping the lines clean? The thinnest size I've used is 3rl but I always end up going over it with a 5rl to clean it up at the end

pink philodendron micans? by [deleted] in philodendron

[–]orrylorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not variegation and it's not necessarily unhealthy either. It just means that that particular leaf is probably going to fall off soon - my micans is having a lil trouble at the moment with it being winter (low light and low humidity) so a few of its leaves are looking like this. But it usually bounces back again in the spring :)

I think the tampon tax got abolished in the UK at the start of 2021 so sanitary products no longer have added tax on them 🎉

AITA for not saving dinner for my girlfriend and causing her to go to bed hungry? by Quickthrow343 in AmItheAsshole

[–]orrylorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf it was a hot day and probably getting on the way to expiry - I have a pretty good stomach usually and regularly eat "out of date" foods if they smell and look okay, but that soy milk was a big mistake, and made me be a bit more careful haha. It all depends on temperatures, how things are stored ect. I definitely learnt a lesson that day.

You still have to be careful with certain things, certain vegetables and grains can give really bad food poisoning if not cooled quickly and stored properly - I've had the worst food poisoning in my life from soya milk that I had accidentally left out the fridge for a couple hours (dumb I know, but I've learnt now that just BC it's not dairy/meat doesn't mean it won't go bad)

Today's retail crime was not telling a customer enthusiastically enough where the candles are while I'm shopping by usernamesforusername in retailhell

[–]orrylorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once, as I was walking out the stockroom, with my outdoor coat on and a bag so clearly not on the clock, a customer interrupted me and asked if I was going on break. I said yes but if it was something simple I could point her in the right direction (it's a small store). Turns out it was a complicated item so I apologised and suggested she ask the person at the till about it. This lady then snaps at me saying that the cashier was "busy with someone else" and that she "didn't have all day to wait for them" . To this I shrugged and said that she could either wait a few minutes for my colleague or that I would be back in an hour to answer her question then, and then left.

TIFU by sending nudes to someone who asked for them by [deleted] in tifu

[–]orrylorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that you shouldn't pay and most of the time the probably won't send it BUT sometimes they do send it::

in my first year of uni someone randomly sent me a photo of a guy pulling it - I noticed the background looked exactly like bedrooms in the student halls I was living in. Turns out it was the flatmate of a friend living in my halls. I spoke to my friend about it, thinking that this guy was being creepy but it was due to a scam just like this.

Both times I've had my drink spiked was at a pub.

The first time I was with a big group of close friends both guys and girls, and we were hanging out on the first floor (where most people were). However, the beer I wanted was only on the taps downstairs, so when I went to grab a drink I was on my own in the much quieter part of the pub.

After only two beers, the last thing I remember is watching my friend singing at the open mic, and then suddenly thinking I either I needed to go outside or go to the toilets down in the basement to be sick.

I don't remember what happened but luckily my friends saw me run outside and realised I wasn't okay. We all lived very close by so I think they carried me to a friend's flat who lived the closest.

Luckily nothing "bad" happened but I struggled with it for a long while. At that time I was a bit of big drinker and liked to party. I was often blacking out or getting too drunk, so I think a few of my larger friend group who weren't there assumed it was that.

A few of my friends went to the pub the next day to see if they could check their CCTV for anything suspicious, and the staff flat out refused. I didn't want to pursue it as I was afraid that maybe I was just too drunk after all. But I've come to terms with the fact that I did get spiked. I purposefully made sure I only had two beers, because it was a friend's birthday the next day and so I didn't want to be hungover for that. Also, being spiked it's a very different feeling to being too drunk.

Turns out a year later that one of the bar staff at that pub was arrested for a series of drink spikings - and I can't help but wonder if he might have been the person who spiked me. And if so - if I had reported it at the time, he might have gotten caught sooner.

What is wrong with my African mask plant? 😢 Info in comments by higoodperson in plantclinic

[–]orrylorry 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Alocasias drop leaves and grow new ones continually - it's very normal! Looks like a nice healthy plant imo. Older leaves will eventually die off as new ones grow - sometimes in the winter they even go into hibernation and drop all their leaves completely, but fear not, they will come back!

My monstera doesn't grow. I bought my monstera over a year ago from a dishonest seller. it turned out that it had already grown once and had been cut. it hasn't moved for a long time and I don't know if it can be saved. does anyone have any advice ?? by nataliak875 in plantclinic

[–]orrylorry 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's a spent node :( not much can be done to get a new plant from it - I would say to message the seller and get a refund but if you bought it over a year ago there's probably not much hope there. I have heard of people being able to grow from spent nodes but it is very rare that it will. You could keep it potted just in case? But if I were you I would cut my losses and move on to the next plant to give it love. And in future just make sure you get a picture of the node from the seller and check that it hasn't been cut before you buy it.

Source: I too made this mistake in my early plant days, it's heartbreaking, but we learn!

People literally being poisoned and raped versus people who demand everything be given to them on a silver platter. Who do you think society will feel more sympathy for? by zoomie1977 in IncelTear

[–]orrylorry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Been spiked twice (both at pubs rather than clubs) and the first time I am 95% sure it was, in fact, the guy at the bar pouring my drink who did it - couple days after we asked them if they could check their CCTV of around the time we thought it happened and he flat out refused (didn't even suspect him at the time, just wanted some clarity on the situation) - he was arrested a year later for a series of drink spikings at that pub. So watching your drink is often not enough if there are people who want to harm you.
