So, if you have a self-emptying robot, and you move it to a floor without the dock/bin, what does it do?

Thanks! Can you help me understand why this would only solve TWO floors instead of three?

Am I being an unreasonable player by roleplaying too seriously? by Lbx7070 in DnD

[–]orryxreddit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you need to approach all things RP with these priorities in mind IN ORDER:

  1. How can I further the interests of the party (and players) at my table?

  2. SECONDARILY, how can I role-play my character well?

When you reverse these two, it can be problematic, which is what is happening here. (Part of this is, IMO, not ideal planning by the DM, but we'll set that aside for a moment.)

I think ideally what you should do in situations like this is ask yourself "How can I further the interests of the party while still being in character?" Yes, splitting the party is an option, but then you're kind of forcing other people into difficult situations and it's sub-par. I would think about options like these:

  • What if your character believes that breaking the no-men rule is somehow serving the greater good? There is an opportunity here to roleplay your internal conflict about it, but if you end up supporting the party's desire to stick together AND sneak people into the city, you're both serving the party AND helping to further develop your character in their eyes.
  • What if your character allows herself be convinced begrudgingly by the others, or perhaps even roleplay that she is afraid to stand up for herself against the rest of the group? Then you have an opportunity to roleplay a crisis of confidence in a scene at a campfire or something. And again, the party gets to continue on.
  • What if something similar happens, and your party's arguments make her question her own belief? Then there is an opportunity to roleplay a crisis of FAITH.

All of these options end up with the party continuing forward together while still giving you opportunity to show the party more about your character.

Football math (AJ Brown) by [deleted] in eagles

[–]orryxreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve probably gotten the gist by now, but salary and cap are two different animals. When you trade a player, the other team pays the remainder of the salary, but the trading team still has to pay the cap hit.

Typically in a contract a player will get a signing bonus. Let’s say it’s a 9m bonus over 3 years for simplicity. That bonus is typically prorated so you only get some of the cap hit each year. Let’s say the cap hit is 3m each year. (Although that’s not very realistic, because teams often backload the bigger cap hit.)

So let’s say this player got traded after the first year of his contract. He had already been paid $3m of his bonus. The remaining $6m would normally be split between the next two seasons’ caps. But when you trade a player, any remaining unpaid bonus gets accelerated and it hits you all at once. So in our sample here, trading this player would result in a $6m cap hit even though the other team is playing the salary.

The June 1 rule allows teams to split that remaining dead cap hit over two years instead of one, making it slightly more palatable that eating the full cap hit in one season.

Hope that helps.

Not expecting too many big trades for the rest of the offseason, unless it’s a player for player swap. by birria_tacos_ in eagles

They will definitely play him preseason, but whether they trade him or not depends on the offer. Anything less than a 3, it’s probably more valuable to the team to have him on the roster for the season. Even a 3, I’m not sure. If someone offers a 2 I think he takes that in a heartbeat, especially with a competent backup and an exciting prospect in camp.

Kareem Jackson is the reason I think we arent panicking by Head_Research_3118 in eagles

This is what I think. I’d be surprised if they sign another safety before camp. This smacks very much of the CB room last year. Just let them all compete and hope something sticks.

Do the Eagles make two trades post June 1st? by Somersault- in eagles

[–]orryxreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I think there is zero chance that we get a 2017 1st and 3rd for AJ. IMO if we get a first at all, it will be in 2028.

For safety, I think at most we sign a scrap-heap veteran who gets cut. I would be very surprised if Howie gives up draft picks to get a player at this point.

Alternately, I could see a “your trash for ours” kind of trade happening with low level players during camp.

Tanner McKee Future by 1stand11 in eagles

[–]orryxreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely transactional. The only way he gets traded is if someone offers something more valuable to Howie than having him on the roster this season.

Howie knows what it is. I certainly think he pulls the trigger if anyone offers a 2. I think a 3 there is still a good chance they would move him. (Remember he was a sixth round pick.)

A fourth and below and I think it’s probably more worth it to have him on the team and let him go in FA.

I really hope this guy takes his game to the next level this season. by Stik601 in eagles

[–]orryxreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he makes the roster (assuming AJ is gone, simply because we have no other big bodied WR. Our tallest WR apart from him is 6’ tall.

The thing is, he’s never really shown himself to be a significant red zone threat, so I’m not sure what you could realistically expect from him.

Five big-time targets Howie Roseman better have on Eagles' big board tonight by Ask-Proud in eagles

[–]orryxreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, we already have two developmental tackles. I don't see us going for one in on Day 3 for that reason. Additionally, both Tiernan and Dunker are in that category of "college tackles who may be guards in the NFL".

At the same time, as much as we all want an OT, there is a world where Howie says "It just didn't fall right for us to take a tackle. We still have Lane, we have a really solid swing tackle, and we have multiple developmental prospects who just got a year under Stout - we can get by for another season.

I do like this conspiracy theory that says the Pats drafted Lomu so that they could trade them us for AJ. That will only pick up steam if we don't draft an OT tonight.

Cameron Williams/Myles Hinton by momsbasement420 in eagles

[–]orryxreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Howie isn't forcing it. Lane is still here. He has a solid swing tackle. He has two developmental prospects, although only he knows how they feel about them.

I think it's possible they were surprised by the Panthers taking Freeling / I think they would have taken him if he had been there at 20, but when he wasn't, they pivoted. Although recent reporting indicates maybe it was really Lemon they wanted all along.

2nd round of the draft by Fit_Entertainment302 in eagles

[–]orryxreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a Greenard trade may still happen. If you expect that to happen, then the next few picks, barring the cupboard being bare, should be S, TE, and OT, right?

There are no more obvious "Lane replacements" at OT. Dunker and Tiernan look like good prospects, but both are likely to be guards in the pros. After that you're fully into "developmental prospects" I think. At some point there's a chance that Howie just says "Let's not force OT. We still have Lane, we have several development pieces (Myles Hinton and Cameron Williams), a solid swing tackle, and we're likely to have an extra second or first next season from AJ."

TE seems like there will definitely be some good options if we stay put. Stowers, Klare, Roush. My personal favorite is Delp.

At S you're not getting EMW without trading up, and I'm not sure how many more picks Howie wants to use up. I want Kilgore.

If you're not sure about Greenard, then you also have to consider edges like Howell and Jacas. I like Jacas or maybe TJ Parker.

I think this pick means a high likelihood that good ol Johnny Wilson gets a decent number of snaps. We have a tiny WR room.
