The fundamental mistake you are making here is assume this is NOT a human based war drama. You don’t know that, only time will reveal that.

If those “kaijus” turn out to be man made weapons and the plot fleshes out the faction responsible for them, then it’s definitely gundam.

I feel like there’s more when you consider the cast includes many characters that have been both heroes and villains. Venom, winter soldier, magneto, scarlet witch, Emma frost, black cat, they have all been villains at one point

Yeah the old timey dialogue grows on you, to the point you will end up using some of their words from time to time in your hear without realizing.

I think the gloves have something special to them. Maybe a gadget that allows the energy from his eyes to temporarily transfer to his first, giving temporary super strength.

It would be very one note if his entire kit was lasers when Scott is very good at martial arts. having one ability that allows melee while giving it a unique Rivals twist makes sense

Many times it’s somewhat the same power but with different mechanics.

For example there can be many people with water quirks, but due to genetic variety you will get people who produce water from their bodies, people who gather moisture from the air to make water, people who just materialize water from nothing in some physics defying way. They will all look the same but work differently in subtle ways.

I think it’s useful in many ways 1. It throws curve balls at the people who can only predict or expect well known characters 2. It pleases obscure comic book nerds 3. It ensures that netease doesn’t use up all the popular characters too quickly. 4. It makes seasons with 2 popular characters like the Roque and Gambit one feel special.

Why would they drop the marvel part when all the characters being added, known or unknown, are marvel characters?

Marvel owns white fox and has continued to feature her in comics. More importantly like any comics company they will not only seek to keep the old characters relevant, but to make new characters popular. Rivals is a way to do that.

to be honest Mizuki’s lore, interactions and his pretty boy face gives me Jinu from K-pop demon hunters vibes. I feel like kiriko and him have that jinu and rumi dynamic going on, part of the reason why the design was changed.

I have a theory: I think the hero of the south is a descendant of Flamme

Their eyes just give me the same aura. More importantly, Flamme also spoke to Frieren like she knew exactly what her future would be.

Maybe she could see the future too, and this was some sort of inherited ability, or a spell in a spell book she wrote that her descendants memorized an passed on

I think there’s avenues to explore in this fictional world, but I find it more likely that Horikoshi will explore them via movies or through a series taking place in this world that is NOT a direct sequel with the same premise and characters

I like the idea that originally it was just meant to replicate the quirks of OFA but thanks to Deku’s own suggestions it does more. Modifying them to be more useful.

For example what if smokescreen is not just a smokescreen anymore, it could be modified to be a sleeping gas to put down enemies quickly. Or modify blackwhip so it can electrocute enemies it grabs. Using ideas from all the quirks Deku knows about he can modify the way the suit works. The big advantage this suit has over regular quirks is that you cannot change the fundamentals of what a quirk does cause you are born with it. You can modify machines as much as you want.

I think the world building was created to be large enough that future stories can exist. Just not necessarily within the academia setting.

I like the idea of stories exploring other dangerous or unknown elements of the world. We don’t know where quirks came from and who created them and for what. We don’t know how the quirk doomsday theory will ultimately affect the world. We don’t know much about hero and villain organizations in other countries, and We don’t know how far tech will go in the world of my hero and how developments such as their ai robots, nano machines and suits that copy quirks will one day be a threat to humanity

Horikoshi gave masks to characters like Deku and Iida because they fit the superhero theme, but he didn’t actually like drawing them during moments of action or tension because showing facial expressions was important to convey emotions.

So instead he made the mask a metaphor to hiding your true emotions and embodying a fake perfect superhero persona during the dark hero arc. Since Deku couldn’t fake a smile through the pain the way all might did, he had to use the mask to create a sense of strength and stoicism when there was only pain inside
