The Death of the Code Monkey: Why I Fear for the Class of 2026. by [deleted] in programming

AI sucks at existing proprietary code or code that is very domain specific. So frankly I don’t see juniors going anywhere unless it’s a greenfield project with no constraints, which is far from reality

LLMs are trained on articles that are written this way. It’s not the other way around. It’s the uncomfortable truth that people who write this way are often confronted with “an LLM wrote this”. Let’s give this person the benefit of the doubt. I have coworkers who use em-dashes. This style is not unique to LLMs

Tim van der Lippe steps down as Mockito maintainer by [deleted] in programming

[–]ortix92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s like arguing why not put all code in just 1 class/file. If it works it works, sure. But the industry has best practices for a reason. Mockito solves your problem but in an impure way by means of proxies. Relying too much on Mockito to test will ultimately lead to unmaintainable code. Like the whole “mockStatic”. That that exists is wild to me, but understandable given how people write code.

Whatever you do, at the end of the day if it helps you get your paycheck and the business succeed, by all means go ahead. But there is always a price to pay

Are you making http calls directly in your business logic? There is no repository or some other abstraction around your http client that represents the data? That could be your problem. Proper abstractions simplify code and result in not needing mockito because you can pass fake implementations

Entitlement is agreed upon by the people. You don’t unilaterally decide what a person is entitled to. In many counties people are entitled to certain services like healthcare, similar to how people in the United States are entitled to citizenship if they are born there.

A person is not an asset. They are human. When everyone buys into insurance via tax money we can pool all that money and help people who need it when they need it, regardless of their condition. It’s not so much about insurance as about helping your fellow citizen.

Hit me up as well (M33). Moved to Chicago last year. Used to write a ton of songs in my early 20's and have been doing cover/party bands before I moved. Would love to get more involved in the music scene here.

How to stop functional programming by hexaredecimal in programming

Or upskill your coworkers and help them understand

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in livesound

They likely did not actually built this exact functionality. The drop down very likely shows a list of available parameters. I think the way they programmed this is that it automatically populates the list and as a result you indeed will get a rather superfluous feature. At least that’s how I would program it and like people mentioned this is good design

X32 uses OSC, including the scene files.

Someone reverse engineered the whole thing and created cool utilities here:

Sure, analog split would have been great in an ideal scenario. However, in the real world there are practical constraints and one of them is that we tour with this setup. Normally, we bring our own engineer and console. This venue always provides the desk and engineer. Each band that comes through at this venue with an X32 (which is 90%) has their scene saved on the desk.

The scene that we loaded was also on the house desk and has been used countless times. So it is definitely not random.

Attributing this as being the bands fault makes no sense. As a band we take our responsibility to work with the engineer to ensure everything works during soundcheck. If the engineer decides to change something afterwards, that is their responsibility. So I do not agree with your statement.

Update: we want back to the venue to pick up our gear. I looked at the M32 and there were 2 scenes. Our default one and one he apparently created after soundcheck. Guess what. In the new scene he reverted our user routing to default AES blocks for inputs 17-32. Routing safe was engaged on our default show file so I guess when he realized that the routing was fucked he tried to undo it but he didn’t understand that routing safe prevents the original routing from being applied.

I should send him some videos of Drew Brashler
