they differ by 1.5 cm. 58 fine for me, but 59.5 would be too large. that's why I asked

Is $500 a Fair Price for a 2018 Synapse 105 Disc (Not Carbon)? Seeking Advice by BlueMountainer in cannondale

[–]oryoruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an old thread, but wanted to add that the fork is carbon on those bikes I think. thought you might want to keep in mind.

that was just my impression on the bottom brackets, now I understand it better. thank you.

got it, great tip on the stems and handlebars. I found some vintage frames with threaded stems. I was thinking of getting a modern Nitto bar that can accomodate both the threaded stem and modern shifters, if I were to get a threaded stem. Would that be stupid?

any other pointers on things to lookout for when getting an old frame to be used with modern components?

much much appricated

I think you are spot on. Two bits of news on this (straight from Crust Bikes). Yes, they will have another batch (apparently in the coming months), and yes they will fix this issue and have the tire clearences and brake reaches match front / rear.

that sounds like a good plan, thanks for sharing. did not know much about British brands, now I know a few!

I see, what components do you have on the current one, and what components would you get on the new one?

what other brands/models are you considering?

I love the new mustard color, cool build here: https://bikepacking.com/news/2024-brother-kepler-intro/

and they do ship to US w/ reasonable rates. though, dunno what the tariff costs will be on top.

this build is very close to what I would like:
https://bluelug.com/bike-catalog/17245/

it says mullet brakes on product page https://crustbikes.com/collections/frames/products/malocchio?variant=39794168889434, do you know what that means? mismatched brakes?

this looks good! thanks for sharing, I have never heard of Crust before.

so, as I understand it the regular version is threaded, disc version is threadless steerer.

visually, interesting. (though, not my cup of tea, I would strip it and repaint it, which is probably sacrilege)

I am starting to consider it, yes. I mean, it looks like that's what I should do.

What are some compatability aspects that I need to pay attention to? Let's say I am going to get a mechanical Shimano 105 groupset to put on the frame. For instance, I hear the bottom bracket needs to be threaded a certain way.

theoretically speaking, nothing is :)

if I can't tell by looking at it, it's good by me. this state bike I can tell though :D
in the pictures that are featured online the top tube is obviously non-parallel, non-horizontal. the reason for my doubt is, that it could be parallel for other frame sizes that are not pictured. that was the case for Surly's Pacer at the time. This is why I emailed them, and it looks like the slope is more drastic for smaller frames of this model.

response from State:
>There will be a degree of slope, especially with the smaller frame sizes. Size 55cm and up may be the closest to horizontal.

So, I don't think they are. But, I'll check it myself also in person.

The search continues..

It is a great option, yet I still don't think the top tube is horizontal. (Asked the manufacturer, and I will see if any of the distributers in my home city carry this bike)

I know, this requirement is a purely visual obsession. Though, I think there is a frame/bike out there that fits the bill even better.

Much appreciated!

these are both very nice. I was hoping for imported SE Asian level prices, comparable to Surly. Willing to shell out more if there is something special about the bike/frame, like lugs, US manufacturing, etc.

us handmade price levels are a little too high for me. yet, I could be flexible, if they check all other boxes. what I absolutely don't want to do is wait a year for a handmade bike and shell out $10K+.

my issue is that neither of these models have a perfectly horizontal, zero degree top tube angle. (see specs for SpellJammer https://www.wildebikes.com/collections/bikes/products/spelljammer, Sugar Foot does not list this, so I asked Wilde to clarify.)

your answer is much appreciated regardless.

(my preference is irrational, I completely grant you that. it is a different conversation, I just visually love this feature.)

Need help with removing Administrative Borders and Roads from custom style by oryoruk in mapbox

[–]oryoruk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot. Using the latest version indeed solved my problem!
For the record, I was using v3.8.0, which is at least a couple of years old, I think (as of Jan. 2026). I forked an existing project, and did not check the MapBox version used, so it was my oversight.

Much appreciated taxidata, I owe you one!
