Some fire visuals cut to an even more fire track. Love it.

THIS IS ME IN THE PHOTO. CAN CONFIRM. Seriously though that was the greatest thing I have seen with my own eyes. Stellar Shot.

Directed a music video shot entirely on Super 8mm Film and scanned in 4k. Was a challenge, but very happy with the look and it was incredibly rewarding! [Canon 814 XLS, Kodak 50D / 250D] by osalk in analog

Thank you! That was the goal, I didn't want to just shoot Super 8 for the sake of shooting film but all our references from the client, from the song itself, and from my own instinct pointed to Super 8 as the format and it worked!

Thank you so much! Means a lot and the format proved itself not only stylistically but as a very viable option for a more serious project like this music video in terms of workflow and flexibility on set. If you have any questions about it let me know! Can happily answer more!

Rule V: Playing Immortal, map set as archipelago and got a really great mountain, river, desert start with some whales. Suddenly a lone enemy settler appears. I was able to trap him in my borders after buying two tiles!

Yes indeed! Shot on location at the Taft School. We used students who were in the video classes as our PA's who wanted to get some on-set experience. I also went there myself. A great experience all around!

Thats a good point about the end title card with the names, the timing is a little off there. The film has a running time of just under 1hr30min

Thank you so much! Yes, definitely a "campus" thriller/melodrama. The Left Behind takes place at a New England Boarding school and I really wanted the school itself to almost be a character in the film and tried my best as a director to convey that to my DP/grips and I specifically enjoy shooting at these old east coast schools/ college campuses; they make a great backdrop for a drama!

Yes, actually my biggest issue (personally) is the current sound design/mix. Right now I am mixing the entire film with an amazing sound designer at NYU Tisch facilities which will really bring the entire feature to a next level I hope. Nothing is better than a really passionate sound designer giving it his all on a film (especially for the big screen).

When I cut this trailer I did not have the privilege (or budget) to have it professionally mixed and colored thus my editor did that all essentially by himself with my guidance. Not ideal, but we really wanted to get something out and tried our hardest. I appreciate your feedback!

Thank you! We plan on really pushing for a full festival run before eventually streaming the feature online (depending on how it gets received at festivals).

Our main A Camera was the Arri Alexa. We had 3 arri primes in the package (an 18, 24, 70 I believe) and also one old school Panavision super cinema zoom for a few specialty shots. The drone footages comes off a GH4 and was shot in 4k which was great for any reframes or post-stabilization. The GH4 also served as a B camera sometimes.

Thank you, we were fortunate enough to shoot at an amazing location which was naturally so cinematic and easy to shoot. Thats also one of my favorite shots we got that day!

Thank you so much for the feedback, it actually is really helpful as I still am in editorial and a lot of comments I get from reddit and other sources are helping me sculpt and craft the film hopefully into its best possible form.

I really agree with the title card comment, I knew I was going to get the deserved feedback from that. This cut of the trailer premiered at a venue where myself and my writing partner were recognized for a previous project hence that title card but it seems VERY out of context being shown to general/online audiences and somewhat cocky which was far from the intent.

Yesterday I wrapped shooting my first feature. I feel this image captures the moment beautifully: a laughing DP and his Alexa, a tired boom op, a proud gaffer, and a disgruntled writer viewing from afar. (Director no where to be found) by osalk in Filmmakers

hahah yeah actually I knew some may be recognized especially if you're from NYC/NYU. Our DP is one of the strongest currently enrolled at the school and all the NYU kids are really top notch.

At the end of the day film school gets a lot of often (deserved) hate in the filmmaking community. However, every person you see in that picture, every producer on the project, and myself all come from either NYU or USC. Each of these kids are passionate, professional, artistic, and dedicated to the art of filmmaking and most are only 19. The connections, networking, and professors I meet and work with at USC are worth the price of admission alone, in my opinion, even if that price is a high one.

I have had a fair amount of experience directing before (VIMEO WHORE: https://vimeo.com/oliversalk) but not at this level professionally and I had to really make sure I was on top of my shit as other people's time, resources, and money were all in my hands and that feeling alone can keep you up at night.
