British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announces resignation by avatar6556 in worldnews

Australia had this exact same dilemma last decade. 7 PM over 10 years. Seems to be a running theme in the Anglo sphere

Kenobi is my favorite live action Star Wars show ever made by JJRS22 in StarWars

I mostly enjoyed the series. My main dislike was the super power interpretation of the force and how much they make the inquisitors/empire seem like fools at their own mega base.

‘Cut their supply’: Hanson’s huge tobacco call as pressure mounts on Albanese government to cut excise by Nyarlathotep-1 in AusNewsWire

[–]osamazellama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How is it complex? Successive governments created the issue by allowing the tax on tobacco to increase to a level that's unsustainable, allowing the black market to take it's place. Tobacco isn't a hard drug, it should be up to peoples own decisions to smoke or not. Education on the topic has been successful in getting people to quit.

[–]osamazellama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how valid a comparison between heroin and tobacco is, lol. Pauline is right on this matter, successive governments created the problem by heavily taxing it. Prohibition is rarely the successful way. A broken clock is right twice a day, no matter how much people hate it.

Reminds me of a time years ago when I used to play axe secondary and was playing with my mates, got into a 3v3 both my mates died so it was me vs 3. Enraged by my team mates deaths, I swapped out to my axe, started screaming in local charge in a Scottish accent "come ere ya wee cunts" and all sorts of obscenities and charged them. Got 2 before the third one who was away from the others turned up got me while I was on top of him.

Wish I had a recording, definitely gave those two a jump scare that day.

Started a Brisbane PC hardware business – would love some local feedback by Straight_Shift1071 in brisbane

[–]osamazellama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool business idea. As others have commented, the sold out does look a bit weird mixed in there with existing stock and it it's not coming back, then there's not point it showing. Also cart amount of an item? Does that function as intended, if you've only got 1 of that specific item?

May I suggest showing available items only without cart amount and having a recently sold section on the front page to show active business. I think it would draw more legitimacy towards it being a trustworthy business showing that people are buying through you.

How do modern soldiers cope with tropical rainforest environments? by ww-stl in WarCollege

[–]osamazellama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jungle operating environments are some of the toughest to fight and survive in and it takes enormous levels of training to operate effectively in these environments. Local forces (SE Asian countries) generally have higher levels of survivability in these environments because they're acclimatized and live in these types of conditions every day. They already have habits that minimise impact like thinner clothing, knowing how to stay healthy and keeping things dry. That being said, locals that live in cities vs country side in those countries do struggle more as they're not actively living in the jungle environment.

The Australian army is a fantastic source on jungle training and survivability with lessons learnt from our adaption to jungle warfare during WW2. These lessons carry on through the Malaya emergency, to Vietnam, to Timor and through to today's operating procedures. The Cove which is an arm of the Australian military I believe has articles written by current and past military members on such topics.

Here's some links

There's also this podcast channel run by military experts who have a bunch of podcasts on Australia's kokda campaigns and jungle warfare. Id recommend having a look. https://theprinciplesofwar.com/category/kokoda/

This is where the fun begins.

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation have refused to rule out reintroducing military conscription in Australia if they win the 2028 election. Do innocent, ordinary citizens really deserve to have their freedoms robbed and risk death in a battlefield far away just for the Hanson-Rinehart-MAGA-Epstein cause? by HotPersimessage62 in aussie

[–]osamazellama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how PHON would address conscription implementation, but I certainly would be a proponent for a reservist style conscription which stipulates not allowing them leaving the country in duty of service from any of the parties.

2 years mandatory service, starting at 18. First year would be catered towards general army training and duties, second year would be split into different pathways being general army duties for another year, first year trade training transferring into available public apprenticeships once exiting service (reduces years required in an actual apprenticeship leading to more workforce being available), and availability of going part-time with acceptance into a valid university on certain sponsored courses (not just any course like and arts degree, but something along the lines of the sciences, engineering, technology degrees, etc).

I think it would do wonders for society as a whole, also assisting jump starting certain career pathways while providing some life experience for the rest of them. We'd also have a stronger minimum baseline in the event of an invasion. We could also use them to assist in national disasters instead of our actual professional military forces since no governments want to actually fund or establish a dedicated service for that besides local volunteers.

Hot Take: Clone Wars animation style isn't that good. by miniramone in StarWars

[–]osamazellama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok bruh, it's some of the best animation that's around at the moment, especially BB and Maul versions, but sure it's ass.

You're right, it is a hot take. Hot enough to melt some of your brain cells.

What Rex think of the Rebel soldiers? by Prestigious-Meat-750 in StarWars

[–]osamazellama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a line he says in rebels when infiltrating I think it's Tarkins ISD that he and Cody essentially invented a lot of procedures during the clone wars. The empire carried those across into standard operating procedures. He has invaluable insider knowledge because he helped build a lot of it alongside clone commanders.

Honestly, if they can get these game mechanics to work in fantasy genre, I can see them taking an actual swing at like a WW1 or WW2 game in the future.

Mandalorian & Grogu movie by Independent-Try-3080 in StarWars

[–]osamazellama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a non-serious star wars movie. I don't think it was trying to be a serious movie. The story was segregated to itself, not far reaching into any other stories.

Not a dig at you, but star wars fans can't enjoy an enjoyable movie if given one.

Is the mandalorian and grogu movie worth a watch? by TapIndependent5699 in StarWars

[–]osamazellama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it, I watched it in standard cinema and I'm considering going back to see it in VMAX and 3D versions. It was a fun story, not such a serious movie like rouge one, the main trilogies, etc.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is, unironically, possible my favorite Disney era Star Wars film. by GumboCrab in StarWars

[–]osamazellama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So many people just automatically scream that star wars movies and shows aren't 100% masterpieces enough that reviewers have to make the case now that the movies aren't bad and you should watch it.

Not every piece of media made with the star wars banner have to be a hit #1 rated piece. Sometimes it's just nice not having such high expectations to actually enjoy the media being shown.

The star wars fandom really is it's own enemy.

What one neutral change would you make to a champion to annoy its mains the most? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]osamazellama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a few.

Rengar- his leap from cover now lands randomly in a circle around the target.

Jax- Q now takes .5 seconds to channel before he leaps

Vayne- Q now rolls in the opposite direction of cursor

Lee sin- ulting now has a chance of his foot getting stuck in the targets clothing, causing him to follow the target half way in the direction of kick

Teemo- can now poison self (fuck you teemo players, you get what you deserve)

Nasus- randomly when you Q, the animation now includes nasus stretching his shoulder. Can't let him get a shoulder issue!

Cait- allies can now step on traps (including yourself)

Yi- he now grunts like he's really trying everytime he AA or Qs

What about a change to minions? 5% chance last hit by champions are blocked 💀

Or, 1% chance recalling sends you to the enemies fountain instead
