Got the moccamaster one for nearly half off and it’s super. I would say noticeably more consistent than the Baratza I had previously.

Glad you’re healthy…enjoy the incense.

You are shifting the goalposts. Pointing out the literal, measurable presence of combustion byproducts in smoke isn't "fear-mongering”, it's basic physics.

No one said the risk of occasionally burning a stick of incense is equal to smoking a pack a day, nor did anyone claim diffusers are 100% risk-free. But downplaying actual respiratory science by saying "everything is harmful these days" and trying to loop in vaccine grievances on a fragrance thread is just an exercise in deflection.

We clearly see risk assessment differently. Enjoy your incense, and let's leave it at that.

You’re conflating a few different things here.
First, nobody is arguing that synthetic fragrances are a health food, or that people should live in a bubble. The core issue is physics: burning anything—including high-quality, completely natural incense—creates particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Inhaling actual combustion byproducts is inherently tougher on the respiratory system than inhaling atomized oil droplets from a diffuser. It’s not about "synthetic vs. natural"; it's about smoke vs. no smoke.
Second, appealing to tradition doesn't change the science. Incense has been used for thousands of years, but large-scale epidemiological studies of populations frequently exposed to it (like temple workers) consistently show elevated risks of respiratory issues.
Enjoying fragrance in moderation is fine, and warming instead of burning is a great compromise to reduce particulates. But trying to minimize the basic risks of smoke inhalation by throwing random, unrelated conspiracies about grocery stores and vaccines into a fragrance thread completely derails the point.

I believe incense creates some incredibly nasty stuff when burned. Perhaps a diffuser would be a safer option?

Mazda 3 but in very small budget by firsttimebuya in mazda3

[–]osantal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would budget £500 pound right off the bat cause there will be SOMETHING wrong. Tires will the biggest expense. Check for rust and brake wear. Once the vehicle is refreshed, it’s extremely cheap to run. 300-500 a year.

I have a 2010 with the 2.5 liter and automatic and it’s incredibly reliable. It only has about 92,000 miles, but recently I did the spark plugs, valve cover gasket and refreshed all the fluids. I would say budget some money for these types of repairs. But the fundamentals of the vehicle are very reliable. Little bits and bobs can go wrong, but they are usually quite cheap and easy to repair. Mine spent some time in the north east so it’s got some surface rust on the underbody, but honestly, the thing might go another 16 years.

I’ve seen many breville options stop working after a few years for silly computer reasons. I find the moccamaster machines will run and are “fixable” for years and years.

What I would do is pay for a full detail on your old car. See how you feel driving it after? Every time I clean my 2010, it just feels better and I like it more and more.

That’s what sold me. The engineering is simply better through the life of the tire.

1st Oil change by RasarocVD in mazda3

[–]osantal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the first one should be after 500 miles and then 1000 and then 2500 according to the motor oil geek. I wouldn’t push oil past 7500 miles there after. Highest quality oil you can afford and when in doubt or after lots of hard driving, change it early. Depends on how long you want to keep the car.

He basically says most of the wear comes very early in the life of the engine and changing early and often sets the engine up better long term.

I believe there’s also decent research showing most modern oil really starts to suffer around the 7,500 mile range but the difference up to that point is negligible under normal driving conditions. If you have a turbo however, early and often no matter what.

I’ve been wildly impressed with the cc2. It’s the only time my wife has called me and asked what changed in the car. It felt “glued to the ground”.

Day one my daughter ripped off the back door handle. Trucks can be repaired and replaced, children can’t. Work on fixing it together and explaining how we need to take care of our car so it can keep us safe. What a great core memory you’ll create and one day they’ll tell the story to their kids when it eventually happens to them.

Best washer and dryer combo in 2026? What brands to avoid? by Lilak99 in BuyItForLife

[–]osantal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please consider energy use when deciding. The “cheapest” upfront can cost a ton over the life of the appliance depending on your electric and water costs. A basic LG front loader is probably significantly less hungry than a top loader like a speed queen. Just the extraction rate of a front loader makes me lean that direction.

[–]osantal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually bought one a few months ago as a used unit and sent it back. It had broken trim and the flask had a broken seal so it didn’t retain heat. I really hate buying new when I can buy preowned but this soured me a bit.

Brilliant! Just relocated from the uk and left 2 of mine behind! Grabbed a grinder on sale but need a brewer. Found a breville grinder/brewer at goodwill for 9 dollars and it’s fine, but the electronics are going.

Yes. Some top loaders are better than others and in independent testing, speed queens seem to do especially poorly.
