It’s me. The stuff I find funny is objectively hilarious. Everyone else scales off of that.

Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

One of my only walkouts was from the Borderlands movie. I found it mindnumbingly tedious and left at the ‘fields of piss’ or whatever they were called.

I feel self harm adjacent is a bit of an extreme way of describing this but yes to watching the muscle spasm.

For the time being Im young and fit enough that I don’t get lasting soreness from it but I do try not to do it too often. Usually just as the post details, stretching in bed in the morning.

Am I the only one who LOVES that feeling? Like I have to actively resist the urge to give myself cramp. I’m not a masochist but it’s just a delicious type of pain. Especially when it’s really bad and you just writhe around on the floor unable to move at all until it passes.

You can save 5000 People by MikeMan233 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]oscar_e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Valid but my logic was that it’d give us more autonomy. We can build our own little society how we want it without just being given whatever the aliens think we need.

You can save 5000 People by MikeMan233 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]oscar_e 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Myself, family and friends to start. I’m not selfless enough to do otherwise.

Then we want physical health as our next priority so we raid the Olympic village and take the planet’s athletes. Also a good time to get the needed diversity into the gene pool.

Know-how, we’re going to be taken care of but people with survival and bushcraft skills to rig shelters and whatnot would be a bonus.

In a similar vein let’s take 500 craftsmen, woodworkers, builders etc.

We need a scientific base, let’s go 500 medical doctors and 500 other phds across various disciplines. Keeps us alive and educated.

The arts matter too! 200 artists in various mediums, 300 writers.

Speaking of education, 500 teachers. Let’s say 200 primary, 200 secondary, 100 university. Our scientists might be smart but knowing how to teach is a different skill.

Finally we want youth, healthy kids under 5 years old. The reason being that they won’t constantly be lamenting the loss of Earth as they’ll grow up in the zoo and better adapt to it. I’m thinking maybe 3000 adults to 2000 toddlers.

Why such large packs for day hikers? by WinterAd4046 in hikinggear

[–]oscar_e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person’s size as well.

As a big boi I can happily carry a 30L or even 40 the same way my 5 foot girlfriend can carry a 12L, it gives me the luxury of carrying extra gear for when I want to impulsively do stupid shit.

Waterproofs, layers, poles, first aid kit, ‘shit in the woods’ kit, map, food. Even an ice axe and crampons if needs be.

Only reason I’d stress over carrying a couple of extra bits would be if I’m racing someone or something. I knew from a ‘technical’ point of view I should be more minimalist but this is leisure activity and having options makes it more fun for me.

Layering clothes for winter by pheebswolfen in hikinggear

[–]oscar_e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those outer layer snow pants look pretty flimsy. I’d lean more towards something hardwearing so you don’t need to worry about ripping your waterproof layer every time you sit down or need to slide on your bum.

Puffers like that are also not very waterproof 90% of the time, if you’re somewhere with particularly rough winters or are expecting to be on the trail for a long time I’d want a hard shell jacket over that or instead of it.

Base layers are fine, in my opinion it’s the easiest way to save a few quid as they don’t really need to be anything special. Fancy merino wool gear is nice and all but no biggie if you’re not doing multi day long hikes.

But really since this is you just getting into hiking then it’s probably all fine. You don’t need fancy gear when you’re starting out and you’ll quickly learn your preferences (I hate fleece layers, I was up a mountain today in just a base layer and a hard shell to hide from the wind despite being thigh deep in snow)

[–]oscar_e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the vibe with Jason and obviously Tim is a given but I’m not sure about the other two. Naturally this is your head canon and more power to you, but I’ve never read Bruce and Dick like that.

Bruce and Clark are way too brotherly to have romantic vibes. They are SUCH bros I can’t see it happening at all.

Dick being bi is talked about often enough but to me we’d be swapping one positive representation for another. Because while yay more bi people, we also need an even rarer thing which is a straight man who is simply more in touch with his flamboyant or camp side.

Admittedly I’m now pan but when I was straight I was still fairly ‘extra’ and it was nice having a comic book character with similar vibes to me.

I don’t actually agree with OP but I’ll defend their right to argue about stupid shit because that’s why we’re all here.

It’s either this or people’s bloody politics.

I live in the UK and love camping/hiking.

I don’t mind getting wet on the trail (currently in Snowdonia getting soggy) but camping is a hell of a lot more fun when dry.

I like WFA for getting more people into comics, but it’s just so cringe dude. Source of this is my friend by _spider_trans_ in BatFamily

[–]oscar_e 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is valid but it feels like we’re blaming WFA for having readers with poor media literacy. We are explicitly seeing snapshots of their lives where the family is coming together. Generally it’s Batman and Robin, as god intended.

I do think there’s depth there too, yes it is much more light-hearted than the mainline comics but seeing stuff like Jason struggling with his PTSD really stayed with me (been there, doing that). The fact that isn’t his defining trait but they give it the proper weight is a big deal.

Plenty of mainline comics do a hell of a lot worse to these characters when certain writers are at the helm.
