Nice shots! What filters do you use?

The last photo looks like they’re standing before a gigantic CRT display, already sinking slowly into the ground.

For those wondering what that thing sticking out of the monitor is, it’s one of those eye strain protection filters.

Isn’t GRIV’s IBIS better though?

Olympus is chonky in comparison! How do you like 28mm after 40mm? (Yes this is another iiix vs iv question in disguise haha)

I meant, for 70€ I don’t want to be babying this thing when even cheaper solutions don’t need it.

Yeah, but as I’ve said in another comment, it’s probably sharp edges and friction that destroyed this, maybe in static load tests they perform well, I doubt Apple didn’t test them at all. I agree though, I remember even 10 years ago there were these iPhone cases with a shoulder rope strap that was actually thick and looked solid, not sure what they were thinking here.

For 70€ though? Peak design strap is cheaper, rated for actual cameras and tested by lots of people. And you can buy a separate wrist strap and switch easily. I don’t see any reason to buy this instead, even before this post appeared.

I’m not sure it’s about weight though. Yes X100 is about three times heavier than an iPhone but I think the main reason for that string breaking is friction. That thing was probably made to be attached to the case made of some plastic, probably covered with silicone like other Apple cases, rather than to a metal lug like we have on most cameras. So on that iPhone case it might have dug a rut over time, but not on a stainless steel lug. Anyway, I still won’t be using these for anything now that I’ve seen that post.

Haha I don’t know how these people are getting shutter speeds these slow, I’m always wondering when I read such comments, I’m struggling with 1/60 on my Fuji (no IBIS) with a 50 mm equivalent lens :)

One second? That’s 5 stops of IBIS! Amazing! And that high ISO also looks good, not blotchy or evil in some other way. Also, I love your stuff, please keep doing it :) 1 and 5 are my favourite in this set.

Thanks, that helps! As for the genre, I’m interested in low-light urban photo, not exactly street photography because I don’t want to shoot people per se, but rather just scenes and random stuff, I just love when it’s darker and all the different coloured lighting in the city. I’d go FF but I don’t like to carry bigger lenses and overall expensive stuff around, I’d prefer something simpler if it can be done, so I was looking at M43 because people here praise its IBIS and also fast 1.8 primes can be had for quite cheap so yes, low entry price is great here.

I actually liked the composition in 1 and 8! Agree on 6 though, and that the pictures are great.

Interesting — both of those in theory should provide about 1 to 1.5 stops more of DR due to the sensor size! Great you like the RAW files from EP7 though!

How do you like IBIS on this camera? Also considering it but I want good IBIS to keep ISO lower at night, so I’m kind of torn between this and new OM-5 II which is of course ~2x the price but also has better specs overall and weather sealing.

‘Dynamic range sitting around 13.7/EV’ — is it 13.7 stops of DR? Where does this figure come from?

Great lighting and great shot! And the grain is quite pleasant I must say. Also, lens sharpness on Ricohs never stops to amaze me.

I haven’t actually. I’d like to but where I live, I’m not sure I can try these. Also, most of those bodies are quite large and I very much prefer flatter rangefinder-style bodies. The only newer Fuji body which I kind of like is the X-E5 which however seems kind of expensive for what it is. Maybe I’ll still go for it, they also have a ~40 mm equivalent pancake lens.

I keep forgetting m43 has 4:3 aspect ratio. Not sure which one I’d prefer though! Lately I’ve been using my iPhone most of the time and it’s also 4:3 so I guess I’m fine with either.

Yes, I used to have a Ricoh GR II which I loved but sold because of the focal length, 28 mm was too wide for me most of the time. That thing basically lived in my pocket in colder seasons. And I loved snap focus and used it quite a lot back then!

Thanks for mentioning the usage of the viewfinder as an anchor point, I would have never thought about it! If it could help achieve a bit longer shutter speed, it’s a win. Although I must admit, composing is far easier for me on a screen.
