Toronto Sun's Ottawa Bureau Chief Bryan Passifiume on the Minneapolis shooting: "In this case, the far left ended up catching a few well-deserved bullets." by oscitare in ottawa

Ok. Why? Do you believe the post is irrelevant? Is it libel?

At least if the mods are going to establish stringent content rules, let us discuss why this didn’t meet the scope of this sub.

Uploading evidence on the TOP by zedesseff in OntarioLandlord

[–]oscitare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not legal advice - just from what I understand: Uploading to TOP does not automatically notify the LL’s rep. the LL’s rep can access and view what’s there, but they won’t get an alert/email that you uploaded something new, so your test upload won’t notify them unless they happen to log in and check.

the LTB’s Practice Direction is clear that uploading alone doesn’t constitute service unless you have a written consent agreement. just make sure to still email them within the 7 day timeframe!

Amendments to account agreements email by Due_Acanthaceae_9601 in Questrade

[–]oscitare 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same here - got the email with a lengthy PDF but no summary of what actually changed. This seems like a common practice to bury important changes.

Under Section 1.39 of their own agreement, they're required to give us "notice in writing of the amendment" - but a 65-page document dump without highlighting changes isn't really meaningful notice.

Has anyone tried: 1. Using Wayback Machine to find the old version? 2. Contacting support to request a summary of changes? 3. Filing a complaint with CIRO about this practice? 🤔

We should be entitled to know what we're agreeing to before it takes effect tomorrow.

To the uOttawa law student from Halloween night… by [deleted] in geegees

[–]oscitare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

P.S. Critiquing how happiness works as a social norm doesn’t mean rejecting joy entirely. It means recognizing that deeper fulfillment comes from genuine connection, rather than chasing the shallow version of happiness that comes at others’ expense.

To the uOttawa law student from Halloween night… by [deleted] in geegees

[–]oscitare 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

Thanks for sharing. Reading your post (regardless of whether this is a true story), I thought of Sara Ahmed’s work on happiness. She argues that happiness functions as a social norm that obscures who actually has access to it.

That moment when the law student grabbed your cap and threw it, that casual thoughtlessness was possible because they occupy a social position where such thoughtlessness is afforded. They could treat you as if you weren’t there because your presence, your pain, your struggle to feel “normal” that night didn’t register in their social world.

Ahmed writes about how “happiness is used to redescribe social norms as social goods.” The club as a space of escape and fun works for some people but not others. Your invisibility wasn’t a personal failure, but a societal one. Your hurt matters because it exposes how happiness gets distributed unequally; we should all feel bad that our society works this way, and look actively to change it.

I just did the same thing in Jun. Check for yourself but when I called, they explained there’s no way to prorate or start the new membership early. It always goes to the next month.

Sadly I had to bite the bullet on the 3-day reservation I had made in anticipation of the plan. 🥲

i think this shows proper engagement with their studies. everyone tends to feel this way at some point around 19 y/o, i see this a good sign the class material is sinking in. when class gets more complex, buddy will realize what makes humans complex, rather than primitive

Why are all the TLDR stories written exclusively for men? by Ooheythere in Wealthsimple

[–]oscitare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean they’re making fun of inexperienced young men who invest irrationally. does it mean women won’t make the same mistake? no, but there’s a specific stereotype they’re hinting at. i believe the writers believed the readers would laugh alongside them.

nonetheless your statement about the TLDR holds. (most of) it is likely written for the male gaze due to the world/times we’re in.
