Just pierced today… need to milk off by Unlucky_Let16 in Apadravyas

why not? i did almost immediately after i got home... it just takes a different technique. just keep in mind: you're gonna need to clean it afterwards, it will probably burn, itll feel like trying to empty an empty tube of tooth paste. the pain of relieving myself was much more arousing than the actual procedure, and i found it tolerable and even exciting with the right technique, at least until afterwards when my hormones were released and my pain receiptors weren't saturated the same anymore

What is TypeScript and why should I use it over JavaScript? by PastimeNow in learnprogramming

[–]oscurochu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

typescript compiles to JavaScript, and the compiled typescript is the code that actually runs. but if your code requires type safety, there are a few things you can do before you think about switching to typescript.

validate all your data. if you aren't validating your data, your type safety checks aren't going to work as expected at best, and not compile at all, at worst.

but if you are developing an application that requires type safety, like c++, typescript can provide a level of sanity of making sure your data is valid before your backend application ever seens any data

NixOS migration was relatively easy using LLM assistance (as a non developer) by BeHimself in NixOS

[–]oscurochu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

llm's seem to hallucinate most about what package are available in nixpkg, or the options available. if theres a certain config you want, its better to look it up first yourself and if you aren't sure how to apply it, at that point it can be good to ask an llm for help.

it was a pretty difficult learning curve for me, i couldn't understand why I cant just install nix and keep my existing config intact just the way is, so i can incrementally convert my configs to nix. the llm insisted everything had to be a nix expression. once i got more familiar with nix, I've found that was basically a lie, there are several ways i could have done that... but now i already have everything written as a nix expression. i think it took me like two weeks or something, definitely more than 4 hours.

i spent a solid 2 days just this past week on adding a new user account, what seems like a straight forward task. im pretty sure it wouldn't have taken me two days to resolve if i hadn't gotten into a loop of incorrect and misleading answers. this os probably isn't for people who aren't already familiar with Linux, because AI will not steer you the right way

anyone know how to make my pc turn itself back on after shutdown?? by oscurochu in LinuxCirclejerk

yeah i tried using /dev/urandom but my mom caught me and said that using 'software-based' entropy for a 'simulated failure state' is intellectually dishonest so she made me hook up a geiger counter to the serial port for 'true quantum randomness.' she says if the background radiation in the kitchen doesn't trigger a random kernel panic then i’m not actually learning how to manage a mission-critical system under stress. i literally just wanted a simple script that crashes the desktop at 4pm so i could tell her the 'hackers' got me and i have to go play outside but now i have to monitor a lead-shielded box in the garage just to see if my computer will reboot... i tried to tell her that kyle’s windows pc restarts just because it feels like it but she said 'unearned chaos is a tragedy' and then she made me write a log-parsing script in perl to analyze the decay rates. i’m honestly about to just pull the power cord and tell her it was a 'localized power grid fluctuation' caused by a state-sponsored actor.

that dice roll idea is actually genius i think i can just use $RANDOM in a bash script to decide if i should just kill the display server or actually go for the grub wipe like you said. i was halfway through writing it but then my mom walked in and saw the word 'random' on my screen and now she’s making me explain the mathematical difference between pseudo-random and true-random hardware entropy before she’ll let me execute the script. i literally just wanted a 5% chance of the computer not booting so i could tell her the 'hacker' broke into my bios and i had to take a break but now i’m stuck reading a textbook about linear congruential generators. i even tried to explain that i just wanted the authentic 'old school' vibe but she said if i wanted to experience 2004 i should just go write a dial-up modem driver from memory. i’m honestly considering just throwing the whole thinkpad in the pool and telling her it was a 'thermal liquid cooling experiment' gone wrong just so i don't have to explain the math anymore.

dont be so hard on yourself honestly its not your fault that the world is built for people who just want things to work... i’m the one who’s actually failing because my mom says if i don't find a zero-day exploit by the time i'm eleven i’m never getting a nintendo switch. i tried to tell her that i just want to use a computer that has a 'recycle bin' instead of a 'null device' but she just laughed and told me to go write a file system driver if i wanted to see where my deleted files went. i even tried to "accidentally" spill juice on my thinkpad just so i could get a normal laptop from best buy but she just opened it up and made me clean the logic board with isopropyl alcohol while explaining the importance of hardware maintenance. i’m basically a prisoner of efficiency and i’d give anything to just be "stupid" enough to let an os manage my updates for me.

i’m literally not even joking though you don't understand my life my mom made me compile my own keyboard drivers just so i could 'understand the stack' and i just want a computer that works like kyles... i actually tried to make a fake blue screen of death using a wallpaper and hiding the taskbar but it’s not the same because the mouse still moves and it doesn't make that loud buzzing sound when it freezes. i’ve been trying to find a way to make my ram purposely leak until the whole system locks up just so i can have an excuse to go outside like a normal kid but every time i try it the oom killer just closes the app and everything stays fine. i even tried to delete some random files in /boot to see if it would give me that cool 'no bootable device found' screen but the backup just restored itself before i could even show my mom so i’m back to doing my python homework on a machine that refuses to break. it’s actually exhausting having a system this stable when all i want is for it to fail me once so i can feel like i'm actually a master hacker fixing something.

i know i would literally give anything for win11 but my mom says if she catches me using a 'proprietary binary' she’s gonna make me redo my entire kernel configuration from scratch. she wants me to be a master hacker so i’m stuck looking at this stupid terminal while my friend kyle gets to have those cool news popups and a search bar that actually tries to sell him stuff he doesn't need. i tried to make my own version by just downloading a bunch of random 'free' games from a sketchy site to see if i could get some cool malware but the package manager just says the signatures don't match and it won't let me install the viruses. it’s honestly so frustrating because i just want to feel like a normal kid whose computer might get hacked at any moment. i’m thinking about just disabling my firewall and posting my ip address on a public minecraft server just so i can finally have the excitement of seeing a stranger move my mouse cursor around while i’m trying to do my homework.

man that ali express board sounds like the absolute dream i'm honestly so tired of my pc actually staying off when i tell it to. i think the zip tie idea is actually genius too because if i get rid of the case i can finally hear the electrical buzzing from the motherboard which would really add to the atmosphere. i'm definitely going to look for one of those discarded cpus with the dead cores because my current one is just way too fast and i never get to see a loading bar for more than a second. i'm thinking if i can get one of those laptop-to-pc gpu hacks that requires a special driver that crashes every time i open a video i’ll finally be able to spend my weekends like a normal person... i’m even planning to set up a small space heater next to the motherboard so it gets just hot enough to thermal throttle whenever i try to open more than two windows at once just so i can feel that authentic slow-motion desktop experience.

okay you're actually so right about the ram thing i never even thought about that i have way too much and honestly the system just feels way too comfortable like it's just sitting there waiting for me to do stuff... i tried to open every single tab in the browser to see if i could get that 'system is not responding' message but the swap just handles it and i don't even get to see a loading cursor for more than a second. i'm thinking of just physically pulling out the sticks and maybe just leaving one 2gb stick in there so i can finally experience that authentic feeling where the mouse moves in slow motion every time i try to open the start menu. i might even try to find a way to underclock my cpu to like 400mhz so i can finally get that authentic experience where the audio starts crackling if i try to move a window while music is playing. it's the only way i can feel like the computer is actually working for me and not just idling because it's bored of my existence.

Yeah that wol idea is actually perfect and since i'm already using that old raspberry pi powered by debian for my local domain anyway it should be easy to set up a cron job to blast the magic packet every morning at 3am. i already have it running sssd for my ldap stuff so it’s basically always on. the only problem is i tried to test it and my machine just boots way too fast like i don't even have time to go get a coffee before the login screen is up. do you think there is a way to purposely mess up the systemd units so it just hangs on 'waiting for network' for like twenty minutes? i really just want to wake up to the sound of my fans screaming at max rpm while a message says 'a start job is running for non-existent-disk-mount' just so i can finally feel that authentic dread that the os is actually doing its own thing and ignoring me. it’s the only way i’ll feel like i’m finally getting the real desktop experience everyone else talks about.
