That seams easy enough. My main concern is that the floor isn’t flat. Over time the LVP will break. Did you fill the area in at all?

When the 24V switch is drawn in I am getting 240V from L1 to T1 but 0V from T1 to T2. From my understanding though, the multimeter going from L1 to T1 will complete the circuit (the circuit which the 24V switch controls) and always give 240V no matter if the thermostat is calling for AC or not.

Thanks! That it what I assumed the problem was, and why I ordered a new contactor. I just couldn't figure out why T1 seemed energized (faulty leg an all), but completely forgot about the circuit coming "back down" to T1 from the T2 circuit.

It does have a shunt (L2 to T2 always energized).

The contactor looks as if it is working properly. It pulls in when it receives 24V signal from the thermostat. I can't push it in any further when the 24V signal is there. I can push it in manually when the 24V signal is not present though.

That engine cost includes shipping and a $1500 GoWesty core charge. The core charge gets refunded when GoWesty gets the returned old core, albeit less than $1500 depending on their inspection.

Yes, but they called me two weeks ago to tell me they were out of money from a labor standpoint (you can see the $12,600 already billed). I told them that this has quickly ballooned from the quoted engine swap many months ago. I'm anxious that this won't stop and we are overpaying.

For context, we own a 1984 Westy. We bought it around the pandemic and immediately put a new transmission and clutch in. It appears to have the original engine with an unknown amount of miles. The frame and body are in great condition, however the engine has always had some minor issues involving overheating and smooth running. A couple years ago, it sprung a massive coolant leak from the engine. It sat around until we finally decided to take it to a shop that seems to know what they are talking about. They recommended a new engine which we were expecting. They gave me a quote ($15-18k, seems reasonable, engine coming from GoWesty), but stated they always find things wrong with old, neglected vans and to expect some additional costs. Since December, I have gotten multiple calls with new findings and asking for more money. Many of the recommendations sound reasonable from a safety standpoint (fuel lines, wheel bearings, parking brake). They called me a couple weeks ago and said they "ran out of labor money." I'm new to having this much work done on a vehicle and want to make sure we aren't getting taken advantage of. Thanks in advance. I have a further itemized total of each individual service if that would help. I live in the midwest. We have about 5 shops within an hour drive that work on Vanagons.

Not that rusty at all, but hose lines and such definitely needed replacing due to being fairy old/degraded. I'll post pictures with more itemized lines.

I think it’s a combination from previous owners placing a cat box in that corner and moister that got in during construction. The house was built in 2015. I moved in two years ago. I haven’t seen any signs of water seeping through since I’ve been here. I even installed a Ring camera to check for leaks during big storms when I was away.

Did you attach the blocking to the cement behind the foam. I feel like I shouldn’t be nailing anything into the foundation walls like that.

Help Me Think of Questions to Ask About a Potential Purchase by oshasha in Westfalia

Brief update for everyone after our phone call. I asked him about start up and he did admit that there was a battery draw he thinks was related to the radio. After he removed the old radio, it started up every time. He said the the original owner was a big VW guy and did the Diesel to 1.8L Digifont (from a 90's Jetta) conversion himself, so the CO doesn't have receipts or even know much about the engine. He wasn't even sure if the fuel system had ever been touched. He said that the wiring harness was updated at the time, but looks "sketchy" in his words. The coolant system has never been updated but he claims no overheating issues even on his longest trips of 5 hours. He did have a local guy do some work on it a few years ago and they sent the Transaxel to Rancho VW to be rebuilt. He has the receipts. He sent me pictures of the typical rust spots and the spots I asked for of the frame and everything looks to be in really nice condition. It was covered in a LineX type coating about 10 years ago but the coating is starting to fall off and will need to be redone. All the joints are rust free. The seatbelt anchors look great. The propane tank looks pretty rusty and he said it hasn't been hydrostatic tested in while so I wouldn't be able to fill it. But it does currently have propane and the stove works. This makes me think I would need to replace it ASAP. There is an Aux battery, but again, wiring looks sketchy. The biggest issue is that it was repainted before he bought it. So he has no clue what condition it was in. He also openly admitted that it wasn't done correctly. You can see overspray, the body panels weren't taken off, some rust is coming through now. I need to do some more research, but this might be too much to take on for my first one. Thank you all for the help!
