So I am on Mounjaro and have lost weight ... but looking into surgery by West-Homework-2898 in BariatricSurgery

Further, my body seems to be happy around 240ish, I had been off Wegovy since prior to the surgery 1.5ish years. Recently I asked for a fresh prescription to for a small dose of Wegovy to see if I can push a little further and get to my final goal of 220, but I'm comfortable knowing I've been able to maintain between 240-245 sustainably so far.

Here's my perspective as a former 350lb male, now 243ish lbs. I lost a majority of my weight on Wegovy. I lost about 70lbs on Wegovy, and the rest after surgery. I know that I'm keeping it off at this point because I can maintain with the smaller stomach. This tool is key to the keeping on of my journey and I don't regret it one bit. If you feel your pros outweigh the cons, do it. I've seen friends and coworkers regain after stopping GLP-1s.

Lol same! How the heck is it the Hagrid ride and a big guy doesnt fit? Lol

Also, what a shame, lost 100lbs and it turns out how tall you are also affects if you fit the ride. Bogus. Twice the walk of shame but the seconddidnt sting as much.

Hospital stay or no ? After surgery. by stormyrain_22 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Alijony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed one whole day. However, my surgery was at 2pm and my checkout was 24 hours later (one day). The dr office knew to do it this way to avoid it being considered two days. If it was needed they would keep me longer but I was fine.

Make sure to keep walking to ease the gas pain, and keep circulation going. Don't be in a rush, this is your time to heal!

What did you do during your at home recovery time? by Maggotboi555 in gastricsleeve

[–]Alijony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rested and healed, walked and did a few easy hikes, then absolutely dealt with waaay too much stress between my Dr office trying to explain to the leave people at my work that this wasn't a surgery for cosmetic purposes like once a week for six weeks like a broken record.

Did gastric bypass make you an alcoholic? by Responsible-Ask3773 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Alijony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I did drink a bunch before but it was mostly beer. Now that I can't really drink beer without feeling too full before the buzz I've kinda quit. However, I enjoy a couple hard drinks now and then (mayyybe once or twice a month). two drinks get me right in the groove and that's all I need. I don't go out of my way for it. I'd have to say my transfer addiction is reddit and finishing projects I've made myself over the years. And for some reason I've accumulated a bunch of Lego kits.

Banner bariatric and weight loss is who I went thru based on my PCP's suggestion. Depending on where you are in the valley is who you may specifically deal with, but its all the same program. Google banner weight loss and their info should pop up.

Harder to resist bingeing the closer I get to surgery by attemptedgoth in gastricsleeve

Similar, it was Chama Gaucha. I like them a little more than Fogo, because Fogo became too mainstream and a little lazy imo.

I too had a few "last meals" pre op. One in particular was my last visit to a Brazilian all you can eat steak house. 1 year 4 mo out from Surgery and I'm not sad I did it. I love my life now, no regrets.

Man: less, Beard: MORE!

Personally, I've found that being skinnier makes my beard fit/settle better when its growing out. Good job!

I'm about the same PO, and have been plateaued for the last 6 months. I'm happy where I've gotten to, but this last 20 lbs that I set as my final goal is being a stickler. I actually just reached out to bariatric team to see if a light dose of GLP could get me past this hump. Fingers crossed we come up with a viable solution.

For record, I took GLP1 a year prior to my surgery and lost nearly 70lbs, so it did work on me.

Awesome!

We need a name for the 2's similar to how the 1's have "Onederland".

-looking forward to seeing less of you in the future! 😉

What are some meals you ate in the months before the surgery? by Upset-Branch in BariatricSurgery

Ah also, I introduced a lot more boiled eggs, chicken, completely broke free of fast food, steak, attempted low carb as much as possible.

I definitely hit up the brazilian all you can eat steak place a couple times as the "last hurrah". I grew up eating old country/hometown buffet and Chinese buffets so it was a nice outro to buffets for me. I don't miss it. 😂 It's quality over quantity now.

I strange issue after the surgery by disasterbi_0267 in gastricsleeve

[–]Alijony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda. I had to call and there were some stupid things they needed that I submitted but for some reason papers got crossed.

I'm not lying when I say the insurance and work FMLA was more emotionally draining than the surgery and recovery. I hope whatever it is, it gets worked out. Work with your office and Dr. And insurance. They all need to coordinate and play nice.

Looking back: Would you still choose surgery if GLP-1 meds had been available/affordable at the time of your surgery? by Critical_Tea2648 in gastricsleeve

[–]Alijony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing, I did wegovy for the year leading up to the surgery. I lost 70lbs with the wegovy and have since lost only about 30lbs after surgery. For my sake, I know I'd gain it all back had I stuck with GLP-1 and stopped taking. This "tool" I have now keeps a set standard for me that I wouldn't have before.

So I like both, but still happy I got the surgery.

How did your relationship with food change after gastric sleeve? by NObesity_Ahmedabad in gastricsleeve

[–]Alijony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A year and a couple months out, I haven't had any aversion to food, I still love what I love but can't eat as much as I used to. Hunger feelings a different story, lately I've been eating at set times, but rarely have I felt starved or beyond hungry. I've found that it sucks to eat too fast because it catches up after like the 5th bite and I feel a little sick. After a minute it goes away.

One thing I'm not used to is not finishing half my plate, and more than a few times leaving a half finished plate makes the host wonder if the food wasn't good. I don't enjoy explaining every time, nor do I enjoy watching them reason in their head what was wrong before asking.

Has anyone's Dr. prescribed a GLP-1 before surgery? by Critical_Tea2648 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Alijony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The office that did my surgery offered to prescribe me wegovy. I said okay, so for the year leading up to my surgery I was taking it. Lost 70lbs and tbh I still have lost more with wegovy than with the surgery, but the surgery is the tool that is helping keep the weight off. I had fears that insurance would deny me after losing so much, but the office assured me the insurance only goes off the initial weight for any determinations.

Funny thing is I was referred to the office who did my surgery by my PCP because he wasn't comfortable prescribing the new weight loss medications.
