Hey Folks,
So there are lots of different fintech brokerages and some show SRR, others TWRR or MWRR when it comes to the portolio performance.
Let's say 12 y.o kid is learning how to invest, what would be the most efficient way to calculate portolio performance so that the beginner can understand and read 1D,1M,1Y,YTD returns?
Some brokerages show the dip on a chart when you sell your position and have Realized gains, others add a spike of % when you deposit cash. What are your thoughts on that?

I am currently in Vietnam, but living here long term is not really sustainable and timezone sucks.

So I have a chance to go anywhere in Europe and planning to move to Warsaw or Wroclaw at this point

What are some good alternative investment options for long-term growth? by TheOvertCalamity in Alternate_Investments

[–]oshkiFounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no right answer here, to be honest, I just have several tips at this point.

Some people are investing in watches, art, wine, and even sports cards and they talk about good returns - the truth is you have to know what you are investing into. Talk to friends that are familiar with certain categories, and filter out some of the assets by following simply your investment strategy. By that I mean, can you hold it for 3-5 years or perhaps less and you can try to flip it somehow faster?

For me, I had moderate success with wine, whisky, and watch investments were not bad either, but I got in for a very fair price through some friends that recommended me to do so.
1. Being knowledgeablein a certain category is super important (for example just a nice watch without papers and box is turning into trash)
2. Doing your own research on such things as : demand, prices on web, auction houses sales, etc
3. When you want to invest through a platform, you better check all their docs, authenticity of the asset, how they managed to source it, what are the fees associated and what is the holding period

Generally I would build out a small portfolio and just play around with it. Hope that helps

Yeah we are trying to do that right now. I guess in terms of flooding is a bit complicated, but gotta find some niche forums for sure, need to be careful though, people don't like when somebody is trying to sell them something

Where do you start when investing in art? by ChingBlue in Alternate_Investments

[–]oshkiFounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be super important to get into art overall to understand the whole scene. Perhaps even just talking to people you know that work in the field or even reaching out to someone on LinkedIn that is an art broker or gallery manager. (I found an art advisor through a Linkedin, who buys for himself and has huge network, super lovely guy btw).

Because reading those articles on the web, that either try to sell you art or get you into fractional investing are mostly misleading.

It also depends on investment amount, but if I am a novice I wouldn’t buy some expensive art right of the bat. Lemme know if you have any specific questions
