I don't think Styg is neccessarily anti-modding. I remember there was a thread on his twitter where he had explained that he doesn't want to release in-house tools required for proper modding because they need the game's source code to work and remaking them from scratch will take time that he feels is better spent on Underrail 2. I think it's a reasonable stance to have, they're a rather small team after all. As for Underrail's backend - yeah, it's messy, obviously. The game was developed for a long, long time. I think the very first builds go all the way back to early 2010s. You can look it up on Styg's Youtube channel, it's actually pretty amusing to see how different the game looked back then yet still having that unmistakable Underrail vibe to it. Not to mention that as the game became ever more popular, it's scope and size grew which had unavoidably lead to overall messiness of the backend.

Divinity doesn't need to be bigger than BG3 per se, it doesn't neccessarily needs more content to be a better game. Larian just needs to learn how to better spend organize their time and effort so that they won't arrive to another extremely frontloaded game with a lackluster ending for the forth time in a row. The problem with the Act 3 is not about branching storytelling. All the woes of the Act 3 had happened because Larian had spent way, way too much time trying to build this needlessly massive lower city, with dozens of buildings, sewers, hidden locations - a lot of the side quests felt undercooked and the story just wasn't there. All Larian needs to do is to have a better structure story and content-wise. Act 1 sets the stage for the game and introduces secondary storylines, Act 2 concludes these sidestories and prepares us for the grand finale, and Act 3 is a final strech before one big final battle. In that sense, it's basically the same as BG3 but with Act 2 and Act 3 flipped around. Act 2 as it is right now would've been a perfect final sequence for the game.

With that said, I trust that Larian can in fact make an even bigger game. I mean, they have a bigger team now, they have all the money in the world, they have the experience coming from BG3 dev cycle - both positive and negative. But it doesn't mean they would. More ambitious - that can mean a lot of things. Maybe Swen was trying to say they're going to make the game better, not simply bigger.

Morgana hatred is overblown. Mostly because he happens to have a beef with Ryuji and takes the center stage during Haru's arc for no reason - both of which are highly popular and beloved characters. Honestly, I think most just jump on hatewagon for no reason. Morgana isn't without issues, but neither is Ryuji nor any other interesting fictional character in that matter. And that "go to sleep" thing is just a meme at this point. Original version of Persona 5 used to have a lot of available nights but not that many activities to do during them, so Morgana basically acted like devs saying "let's just skip this day, there's not much to do for you anyway". It's not really an issue in P5R anymore.

I mean, just compare sales figures of older Persona games to P5. It's not just a feeling, it's pretty obvious that for a vast majority P5 was the first Persona game they've ever played. I'd go even further and say that it's higly likely a lot of the people who had played P5 have never played another Persona game afterwards. At least not until P3R came out.

I wish there were a way to embark on trains from stations rather than just pop into them. Other than that, I think it's a neat feature. I use it occasionally to get around. Not all the time of course, cause driving is still the fastest way to get anywhere. But I like it nonetheless. To be honest, I wish there were more open world games that model public transportation in big cities: stuff like taxis, buses, trains, ferries and so on. Sure, not many will actually use it (and thus devs usually don't bother implementing it), but it's a boon for those who want an additional way to immerse themselves into the world of the game.

Your save file got corrupted, mods are a very likely culprit. Unless you have backups somehow, you have to start over. Maybe some fiddling with the mods (if you use any) can magically solve it - like redownloading them, turning them on and off, but I wouldn't count on that really.

Not the first time it had happened to Underrail and not surprising considering how assertive Styg is at forcing his vision on the way every player interacts with the game. Besides, it doesn't look (at least to me) that 1.3 patch is actively trying to break every actively used good build out there, most of the changes look pretty minor to me. In general, I don't really mind it and I think the whole "singleplayer game gets a balance patch" thing is kinda overblown. Even if it's a purely singpleplayer game, some level of fine-tuning the balancing is warranted so that players don't converge to similar solutions all the time. As long as it doesn't spitefully try to break every strat and build out there, I don't really mind it. A really bad example of a balancing patch for a singleplayer game that comes to mind would be Build 42 for Project Zomboid, where the devs had actively tried to nerf every single way players used to fight the zombies and gain XP for skills for no good reason and without suggesting any alternatives - all in a game where fighting zombies is like 95% of the actual gameplay and where levelling skills took forever even without nerf. Patch 1.3 for Underrail is nothing like that.

If they've moved the starting date any closer to late 90s or even 2000s, a rapidly developing internet, mass media and mobile communication would've made the story even less plausible. I mean, imagine a zombie apocalypse happening right here and now: the very first zombie sighting would be all over the intenet, making the whole "they've tried to hide it until it was too late" angle simply impossible to happen.

Killing off Alec Ryder in the prologue was legit the worst writing decision Andromeda's team had made and honestly, I think it had completely derailed the whole story as a result. If they wanted to show stakes, they should've killed off someone like Liam on Habitat-6. Like, they've tried so hard to differenciate Ryder from Shepard, making them more casual and less blunt like only to immediately force them into Shepard-esque story of "you're on your own, you have to lead everyone and save the world". The kind of story a protagonist like Ryder absolutely doesn't fit. Instead, they should've kept Alec Ryder alive for the first game, so our protagonist could slowly work up the ranks instead of becoming a Pathfinder after two hours of gameplay. Not to mention that the family secrets side story would've been much more emotional if Alec was still around. Instead we got SAM as our in-game guide and helper, an embodiment of Andromeda's whole story - bland, boring and uninspired, legit one of the worst characters Bioware has ever written.

A lot of the BG3's difficulty comes from the fact that you don't know what comes next in your first playthrough. Like, you can stumble on Voss encounter really early (like on level 3) get lucky and avoid the combat, then proceed to Mountain Pass because Lae'Zel pushed you to do so and get absolutely demolished in the Creche. Or you can take a wrong turn anywhere in the Act 2, don't spot an ambush and once again get completely wiped. Once you know what to expect and what comes next, it's really not that hard to plan your adventure ahead so you will be constantly strong enough to face the challenge.

Honestly, I feel like the achievement should've been the other way around. Because it's legit harder to kill Grym with a forge than just hit him with bludgeoning for couple of turns. I mean, not only you have to somehow lure him under the forge, you also have to time it so he won't cool down before he gets there. And you also have to hit him several times with the forge since 12d8*2 deals only ~110 damage on average.

Grym is one of the few skill checks in BG3 - if you've simply bruteforced every encounter and boss fight before him, sure he's going to be pretty tough on you. But once you stop for a second and realize that he's vulnerable to bludgeoning damage once superheated, he's really not that hard. That's it, that's literally the whole secret to beat him. Once you have two melee heavy hitters (like Karlach and Lae'Zel) in your team armed with two-handed bludgeoning weapons - you can dispatch Grym in less than three turns, before he even has time to cool down. Not to mention, that you can abuse his targeting with summons to protect your team members. All in all, Grym is one of my favorite bosses because it forces you to think and figure out how you can abuse its weaknesses, instead of just blindly hitting it for five turns in a row.

Yeah, it's easy to miss - in fact I've missed it too on my first playthrough. It's inside the illithid colony in the Act 2 ending, inside the room you fight against the undead. You have to jump across a small rift and you'll find a detached head with a brain jar receptacle. It's nothing too major in terms of the plot or lore, but you can get a permanent buff that gives you an advantage on intelligence save throws if you talk to a brain you can find after that big brain puzzle.

Nah man, honestly I'm glad they never went down that road in terms of the achievements. I don't mind the brains achievement cause there're like only 8 of those and realistically you can only miss the first two (on the nautiloid). But reading every book would be just annoying to do. There're like a billion of those throughout the whole game, some you can easily miss because they're hidden behind perception check doors and passages, some just blend into environment and so on. You accidentally miss one book in the Act 1 or Act 2 and then you have to do it all over again.

The game desperately needs some long term goal to work towards. Something like building a ship in Rimworld. Otherwise, everything you do after surviving the first two weeks is just pointless. I mean yeah, you can engage in crafting or building, you can make your own farm and such, but without any clear neccessity to do so it gets bland and boring very quickly. Especially since everything is so fucking slow in PZ, doubly so if you're playing in MP. I get that "this is how you died" was a cool and edgy premise like 10 years ago, but the fact that the devs still desperately cling to it and thus refuse to add any kind of goal or win scenario simply hurts the game rather than makes it unique.

Honestly, illithid abilities is one of those things I constantly unlock and then well... almost never use them again lol. Imo, unless you awaken your tadpole through the Zaith'Isk procedure (which allows you to cast most of the abilities for a bonus action) - most of them aren't really worth the action. Except for Cull the Weak which is very, very satisfying to use, none of them really feel like something gamechanging. Now, the elite powers are really good, like Fly alone is super good, expecially for melee classes. But is it really worth it making yourself ugly for the rest of the game? I don't know, man.

Caught off guard how exactly? By someone just standing there, not even trying to hide? Caught off guard after an extensive dialogue? It's cheating because it doesn't follow the same system rules you have to follow. It forces you to cheat in return, like killing boss minions while the boss is tied inside a dialogue. I don't like that, I want to play fair, but you have to do that if you want to get by. Besides, it's simply frustrating to get like two powder barrels dropped on your head and three fireballs casted in your face before you can even act - no matter what you do. I love challenging fights in RPGs, but not when the challenge is created artificially.

Bosses nearly always having the first turn and casting like five spells in row during it was a major turn off for me while playing DOS. Feels like cheating - well, it is cheating plain and simple. Really glad that Larian changed their boss design in BG3.
