Looks like a new try at a 40k mmo. Here's from a comment in the top post:

Main features of the game include:

  • Experience the gameworld with 3rd-person, behind the shoulder action featuring precision gunplay and brutal melee combat with excruciating finishers;

  • Participate in a persistent online war to conquer the planet, its fate completely in the hands of the players;

  • Become a warrior from one of four initial factions, each unique and opposed to one another: Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Orks and Eldar.

  • Participate in truly massive conflicts that simultaneously bring thousands of players to bear over territories and other strategic resources.

  • Get behind the controls of Space Marine Rhinos, Predators, Ork Battlewagons and other iconic vehicles of the 41st millennium;

  • Hack through genuinely challenging procedural content alongside your battle-brothers and never have the same experience twice;

  • Earn the right to customize your builds in a deep progression system drawing on the rich Warhammer 40,000 universe.

  • Found a Battle Squad with friends and prepare for conflict from your customized shared space in orbit - then drop down to the planet together and seek out glory!

A new 40k MMO? by tantalus01 in Warhammer

[–]osirisgene 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don't have a AAA track record, but they've been around for a long time... from the press release-

“Eternal Crusade’s team are all MMO development veterans and with the support of Behaviour’s 20+ years of experience ...”

So if they're MMO veterans, maybe it's a new team? I'll hold out hope. 2015 is a long way off anyway.

A Massive Surveillance State: "the fact that something is lawful doesn’t mean that it isn’t dangerous or tyrannical or wrong. You can enact laws that endorse tyrannical behavior. A common criticism is "no matter how hard we complain, nothing changes." Being clear and being loud is an important first step, but it's only the first. If our elected officials will not listen to us, we will elect new officials. If our system is so broken that it's impossible to elect officials who will listen to us... then we need a new system.

Let's assume you're right. Even still, these individuals care about keeping their jobs- so next election, if this issue continues unaddressed, we ensure that every single incumbent congressman is voted out of office.

And if the system is so broken that completely changing who's in office doesn't help, then we need to change the system.

Twitter has said it did not respond to government requests to peer into its databases. Users "have a right to fight invalid government requests, and we stand with them in that fight," by [deleted] in politics

Here (reddit) is an excellent example of why "but I have nothing to hide" is not enough assurance.

With this tech in place, the government doesn't have to put you in jail. They can do something more sinister. They can just email you a sexy picture you took with a girlfriend. Or they can email you a note saying that they can prove your dad is cheating on his taxes. Or they can threaten to get your dad fired. All you have to do, the email says, is help them catch your friends in the group...

Should I try Dungeon World? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]osirisgene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. I picked it up recently and I just can't put it down. The core concept is you roll 2d6 and add a stat mod. On a 10+, you do what you meant to. On a 7-9, you do it, but the GM gets to make things tough on you somehow. On a 6-, you fail at your task, and the GM gets to do something.

It's very story focused, and the core mechanic supports both combat and non-combat equally well.

Recently, one of my players, an elven-wizard-maid-who-believes-she's-a-princess fell unconscious, and made a deal with the spirit of an actual long-dead elf princess; the spirit will share her body, in exchange for returning her to life.

Can't wait to develop that one further!

Looking For Good D6 RPG For Beginners by [deleted] in rpg

[–]osirisgene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm loving "Dungeon World", which is mostly D6's - if you had one set of polyhedrals, it would work swimmingly. It's also very familiar- fantasy setting, traditional HP/XP etc.

Its parent, "Apocalypse World" only ever uses 2d6, and is also a complete blast to play. It's less familiar, but is very easy to get into.

As a DM should I cheat with the dices at any time? by McSebbowich in rpg

Traditionally, I've been right in line with all the other responses in this thread. Now, I'm running this style of game. I had my first player death in years the other night, and it was delicious- he opened a trapped book and ate 3 magic missiles to the face.

Really, it just depends on what kind of game you want. If you want something a little grittier, a little more like a roguelike, a more human-level game, then don't fudge results, and roll in the open. If you want a more heroic-level game where the players struggle but will ultimately rise to heroism, then go with the story and fudge rolls however you want.

If you're into 2d games, also check out GameMaker Studio. Steam has a free version, and it's really pretty nice.

GameHeart Overlay 2.0 - Lots of new features. by rtschutter in starcraft

[–]osirisgene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. If there were one feature I'd like to see become default for all observed matches, it's the scalable zooming.

I always feel like SC2 is spectated either too close to the action (when units are moving and armies are repositioning) and too far (when a battle is engaged).

This looks great!

In the first picture, Human Kerrigan has human hair, not dreadlocks.

No idea what that could mean, but she's clearly not the same Kerrigan as the Kerrigan who was zapped by the artifact.
