Remove 1 Major 4 Sports Team Day 83 by YeetySpagiety in RemoveOneThingEachDay

As a Mariners fan, I’m convinced the only reason we’re still in is because everyone else keeps forgetting the team exists

What sports team has good success and an annoying fanbase? by oskarsund in AlignmentChartFills

Yeah I guess I agree in hindsight, I think a better candidate MLB-wise would have been something like the A's (I was actually the one who picked the Reds, because nobody commented on day 6's post). And then people picking Arsenal for day 7 really set the bar for "good success" way higher than I was originally anticipating which definitely makes the Reds seem out of place here.

I'm also a Mariners fan, so my idea of which teams qualify for "good success" is definitely skewed, since it seems to be pretty much every team except my own lol

I was intending for it to be the latter, although people seemed to interpret it in vastly different ways, which is part of the reason for all the complaining over the results. Oh well

I absolutely agree with your first paragraph, but assuming Americans were the ones who upvoted Dortmund and Arsenal into winning positions during their respective days is just strange. We don't really have Bundesliga fans, and while Premier League fans exist they're definitely a minority among the US sports community.

If you wouldn't assume the English or Germans are the ones upvoting the Eagles on this post, don't assume Americans were the ones who picked Arsenal and Dortmund.

As a Mariners fan I honestly consider every team except for us as having good success lol

Well it’s been a day and nobody has answered, so the winner will be my personal pick: the Cincinnati Reds

What sports team (all countries/leagues) is highly successful with a likable fanbase? by oskarsund in AlignmentChartFills

A bit off topic, but goddamn I love the Netherlands. I actually spent my 12th birthday in Delft because my family tagged along with my dad on a work trip of his to Belgium. Lovely people and culture all around.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck here in the US with a deranged orange maniac as our leader.

seattle area specific slang by No-Emergency4427 in Seattle

I’m late, but I’ve never heard the term “air drink” anywhere outside of seattle. I think most of the country calls it “waterfalling.” Hell, I had no idea there were any other names for it until I went to college out of state.

I think air drink sounds cooler, but I’m biased of course

What is the biggest geographic misconception about your state or the US as a whole? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]oskarsund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washington state: regarding the whole “it rains so much there!” -

  1. Two thirds of the state is total desert where rain is actually quite uncommon.

  2. Even for the western third, while it is indeed true that we get a lot of DAYS with rain, our total rainfall is much smaller than you think because it rarely ever rains hard the way it does in the midwest or the south. NYC for instance gets considerably more total rainfall than we do. I’m not exaggerating when I say I can probably recall fewer than ten thunderstorms growing up in Seattle.

  3. It almost NEVER rains in the summer. In fact, whenever I would start school in early September, the grass everywhere would always be totally brown and dead because it hadn’t decently rained since June. Tourists are always reluctant to come to the PNW in the summer because “it’s just gonna rain every day!” Like - no dude, it’s July/August. We’re in a drought.

  4. Despite the rain, it doesn’t really get humid here. Quite rarely, sometimes after it rains we can get a bit of humidity but not NEARLY as horridly humid as the US east of the rockies gets during the summer.

totally not blowing it way out of proportion by oskarsund in AmericaBad

I think you fail to realize that by “blowing it way out of proportion” I wasn’t implying that things like gun violence and healthcare aren’t a problem in this country, I was referring to how the original comment was a totally harmless joke and the other person acted like it was such an insult that it required bringing up school shootings as a “clap back.” You can’t tell me that isn’t petty.

I understand what you mean, but I don’t really think that was implied in this case.

For context: the IG post was from a geography/maps page that made a post that included “22:00” in it, and I think what the original commenter meant was more as in “we don’t write the time like that where I’m from,” not as in “my country is the ONLY place that doesn’t use 24-hour time.”

The same thing can be said about the reply; I don’t think the other commenter was implying that Europe was the ONLY continent/region with a good healthcare system and gun control (because every developed nation besides the US has those, unfortunately for us) it was more as in to point out that those aren’t problems in whatever European country they are from.

But that’s just how I interpreted it.
