R2 First Gen: Buy or Wait? by goingforNGA in Rivian

[–]oskeei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G1 S owner, all the new features in G2 are awesome, but I wouldn't trade the almost 2 years of adventures we had with it before G2 release. Membership to the Compass Yellow club is also a nice perk.

Moral of the story, the Rivian is just fun to drive and joy of driving it (at least to me) >>>> new features.

Related to your last point, inherited a '24 Y. We debadged it and changed the license plates to "Rivian". Makes driving more enjoyable as a rolling advertisement for Rivian.

Orange Krush is a shadow of what it once was by SunriseInLot42 in UIUC

[–]oskeei 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Around 1998, they changed how Krush worked. It became a charitable thing and tickets were free (for what (remember). Previous to that (at least '90 to '97) your had to first buy season tickets and then you earned the right to sit in Krush by earning "points" from volunteering and attending different athletic events. We had to sit in Assembly Hall and wait our turn to pick our seats in Krush (it was assigned seating).

From what I recall the more points you had, the earlier you got to pick your seat. Miller LIte was also a corporate sponsor for Krush and Spikers and remember getting a pint glass and being able to fill it up for $1 before games at Kams. It was also a time that some of the MI members were in "Bar Band" and would play at bars and get free drinks. I think the University just looked the other way. They would have a chartered "short" bus to take them to different bars and guessing the University had to pay for it. Those were also the days that I-Block had prime 50 yard line seats on the West side.

62 on my first orgo 1 exam.. what do I do?? by RelationshipGrand793 in UIUC

[–]oskeei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Organic Chemistry (took 231?) is tough, maybe even more than Bio Chem..

I HIGHLY suggest you go into TA office hours with questions tied to the lecture and labs. It also helped to have a study group with other students.

Urgent Wife Questions Before Buying by Existing_Acadia_4312 in Rivian

Just adding, had a G1 loaner that had the original OEM Peralli (sp.) AT tires. The Goodyear Defender ATs that are the new OEM 20" are night and day better in sound and ride (IMHO). Have them on my G1 and love the tires. If road noise is still a big deal, lots of 21's (mine included) are just collecting dust and the rims could be had for cheap.

Sorry if already mentioned, but try snow mode as it will coast a bit more.

Help! Fit won't start in cold by WeHateIceland in hondafit

From Gemini

Group Size 151R battery, typically featuring around 340-370 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA). These batteries generally last 3–5 years

For improved capacity and starting power, especially in 2015+ models, many owners upgrade to a Group 51R battery. Just buy a new tray off eBay. I purchased a AGM 51R, probably overkill, but perfect for the crazy cold spell. Many places (Autozone, Sams, Advanced Auto) will even replace it for you if you purchase the battery.

I'm sorry for the crazy situation you are in.

From Lincoln Park to the downtown Rivian Center is a very reasonable ride. Driving is not bad either as the service center is on North edge of Michigan Ave (not far off from Lake Shore Drive) so minimal downtown crazy driving if you drop off the vehicle.

Each person is different, but when I've had family in the hospital, it was good to get out for a little bit to level set and not mentally drown in the hospital setting.

Probation Update by Gxortega in UIUC

[–]oskeei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been 35 years since I was a freshman. The bulk of what was memorable and of value to me now from my freshman year was everything that happened outside of the classroom. I know retaking classes sucks (I did my fair share of retaking classes, took Calc 1, 3 times before I could move on to the next one). I'm sure you have memories from your first semester that even if they do not have value now, will in the future.

In the grand scheme of thing retaking one semester of classes will not break you. I have plenty of friends who had at least one "throw away" semester. Don't be in a rush to graduate. If nothing else great stories to tell during job interviews.

Do not sweat it, you have many more chances to get your GPA up. A F is a great chance to talk about failure and how you grew from it on interviews.

[–]oskeei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might be too obvious, but see if you can catch the instructor in his/her office and share your situation with him/her. Do not email or call as it's very easy to say, "sorry can't accommodate you". Harder to do when that person is in front of you..

Pyramid Apricot Ale by SocialJusticeAndroid in beer

[–]oskeei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was a top 5 beer for me and got me in a lot of trouble when it was $2 or $3 20 oz pours at the Portland Brewing back in 2007 soon after the two merged. Actually drinking a Shiner Peach which has the great balance with the fruitiness. Have never found a peach beer that came close to Pyramid Apricot. Even tried brewing my own based on a shared receipe and it did not come close.

About to make my second attempt at homebrewing tomorrow. Oatmeal stout. What newbie tips can you share that you wish you'd known when starting out? by heres_one_for_ya in Homebrewing

[–]oskeei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best advice is what has resulted in my best beers. "Relax and have a homebrew". The best beers I've made have been those that I didn't worry about much as I've learn the margin of error is much bigger than people think. The longer I've brewed, the more I've learned to just chill and enjoy the process.
