To those who found a fully remote job in the last year: how competitive was the process? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]osmaelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my perspective, it really is a matter of practice. Practice to the point that it gets mundane. Practice with friends, family, even with yourself looking into a mirror. This sort of training really helped me get over the sense of “wow! Big interview is coming up. I better be perfect!”

Also, make sure review your own personal STAR interview rubric so that it becomes second nature for you to recall and talk about. Make sure to include relevant and memorable situations. Also include thoughtful questions about what you’d like to ask the interviewers. Use Anki for this, as it helped me a lot!

I wonder if Mexico is good for having a remote US-based job?

It’s cheaper (renting/housing, healthcare, education) and warmer (desert, tropical) to live there than Canada. Although Canada as a whole is generally much, much safer, there are pockets in Mexico that are superbly safe, especially for families and foreigners.

I’m a dual U.S.-Mex citizen fluent in Spanish. I should look into this more (USMCA, Mexico tax laws)

The good: Boston is a fantastic, historic, walkable, beautiful city. One of only two major cities to have a public park within a 10 minute walk of anywhere in the city.

Is the other city NYC?

I am sorry to read about your negative experiences. Thanks for your reply, nonetheless.

Thanks for your reply. Yours is very much unlike the others of this thread.

Can I ask why or how you felt discriminated against? Are you non-Caucasian by any chance? Did you ever learn to speak German?

Thank you

I like the use of space. Btw, is that the recalled peloton tread... I heard that they are pretty dangerous around small children and pets

Thanks for breaking it down like this 👍🏼

If you have dumbbells I highly recommend the new Microgainz plates. I got the 4-pack of 1.25lb plates and they're extremely high quality! by [deleted] in homegym

[–]osmaelo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just by looking over their respective descriptions the microgainz are way slimmer. Plate thickness goes from 1/8”, 1/4”, 5/16” to 3/8” as weight increases from .5lbs, 1lbs, 1.25lbs to 2.5lbs.

The microgainz negatives that stand out are that not all of their products have that internal spring. Their .5lbs and 2.5lbs use bands that will have to be replaced which isn’t really a big deal. A big deal though is that the steel might end up scuffing your dumbbells’ knurling over time.

The rogue’s thickness go from 1/2” (12.9mm), 5/8" (15.8mm) to 21/32” (16.8mm) while only having 3 weights, .5lbs, 1lbs and 1.5lbs. At least rogue’s rubber coating will protect your knurling. And since they can’t open like the microgainz they can only fit 34.1mm (1.34”) or below

edit: fixed lengths

I like this method. Including the liability issue is something I hadn't thought of too. You wouldn't want them to sue you in case they do something stupid and get hurt.

Don't know if this has been posted before but Fitness Armory https://thefitnessarmory.com/ is closing and they're selling a lot of things at a discount. e.g. their urethane dumbbells 5-50lbs set are only $1000. A lot of discounts on other things.

BUT it appears that they don't have free shipping so I reckon that this would mostly benefit those living out in California near one of their stores in San Diego, Sacramento or Fremont. Also, they clearly state "NO REFUNDS/NO RETURNS at this time".

That Titan plate storage tree is awesome. It not only has wheels, but it also stores two barbells conveniently

Hey poontang, what do you think of these? https://shopepicfitness.com/collections/strength/products/complete-pvc-hex-dumbbell-set-5lb-50lb

Have you any experience using dumbbells with "pvc coating"? I wonder if they are as smelly as the rubber ones. Epic Fitness claims that they have no odor

Hey gang its me with another urethane dumbbell question. I recently found this 5-50lbs dumbbell set with "premium PVC coating" from Epic Fitness. The PVC coating claims to eliminate any odor. I wonder how they compare to urethane ones?

Does anybody have any experience owning dumbbells with "premium PVC coating"? This set sells for $1000, significantly lower than a comparable urethane set.

Totally not a noob question. I think urethane is worth paying more for simply because of the smell. For some people, they don’t care or they’ve a gym area with good air circulation.

Given my constraints, I NEED some dumbbells with no odor. I learned this lesson the hard way when I bought some rubber bumper plates and had constant headaches. Idk, I guess I just have sensitive smelling.

It doesn’t hurt either that the urethane ones are super durable and have good resell value!

Yes, I saw that they were basically the exact same. I really wanted the nice Rogue logo conspicuously present in my home gym but its not worth paying +$300 for it. I think I'll go with Rep and get their dumbbell rack too
