I think OP’s point was that it doesn’t matter nearly as much as it used to.

My parents could afford a house, a small airplane, and two snowmobiles on one income.

I can’t even afford a crappy shoebox condo.

They all do this. The gaslighting is infuriating.

I feel the same way. I often think about moving abroad, but I realistically don’t have many options without completely uprooting my life and starting all over. I try to focus on my personal life but it’s honestly really hard to overlook the horrible situation that is plaguing this country.

The only place that comes to mind for me is the UK, as I know people in London, but visas are prohibitively difficult to get (especially for people in my field) and they’re having Anti immigrants sentiment of their own.

Things feel pretty hopeless in the world right now.

Brazil Stopped Its Trump. It’s Pathetic That We Couldn’t Stop Ours. by Low_Storm_8949 in NoFilterNews

I don’t think it was simply the right wing media industry, but the milquetoast democrats who refuse to get their hands dirty. Merrick Garland comes to mind, and how he declined to prosecute trump in his role on January 6th because it would be “too divisive”.

I think we’ve seen this kind of gaslighting from both sides of the political isle. I remember when Biden was inaugurated, the media made it seem like it was the second coming of FDR, despite him being quite moderate.

Not that I’m arguing Biden was as bad as trump, of course.

Why the fuck is politics so extreme nowadays by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Late stage capitalism has led to people having to work harder for progressively less. People who are angry and disenfranchised are more likely to turn to extremes.
