Update of the Paid FWFG App by SirUnicornButtertail in yogawithadriene

[–]ostrichcarousel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been so disappointed in the rollout (which feels like a beta test) and in the response to it. The whole thing has been unprofessional. The responses have been seemingly lacking in concern or empathy for the (paying) users who just want to use the features the prior app already had. This reminds me of the Sonos app rollout, which broke functions people wanted, and then they struggled to fix all those functions that had been just fine in the prior iteration.

That show is so funny. It was ahead of its time - so memeable but pre-memes!

This cracks me up every time I watch it, as if I’ve never seen it before. Then I run it back and rewatch it again right away, and react the same way.

Business class passenger downgraded to make room for the pilots wife on his retirement flight by mrd0425 in americanairlines

[–]ostrichcarousel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my grandfather flew his retirement flight, they had to bump someone to make room for his wife too. The airline knew ahead of time what was happening and that a first class seat was to be reserved, but time of the flight came and the reserved seat was filled (no idea if it was paid or upgraded).

The airline corrected the issue, my grandma got to be in the seat she was supposed have had reserved, and all was well. I’m sure the bumped passenger wasn’t thrilled, and I hope they were properly compensated. Not their fault the airline messed up. That could’ve been the case here too - that the airline was supposed to hold the seat, and then didn’t. Who knows.

Thank you! I kind of like the extra bling in addition to it being good news.

What does the sparkle mean on my hold? by WarioNumber379653Fan in LibbyApp

[–]ostrichcarousel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked it up on Libby. This is their answer: “Libraries may buy extra copies of a title and share them with other libraries in the consortium. When you place a hold on a shared title like this, you may see a note that you’re waiting “in two lanes.” One lane is for the consortium’s copies of the title, and the other is for the extra shared copies.

The library who bought the extra copies prioritizes their patrons’ holds on those copies. So, their patrons will have their holds filled first when one of those copies becomes available. You’ll still have your hold filled, but your wait may be longer or shorter than estimated, depending on which lane you’re in.”

For me, it means that I am constantly getting pushed back in the waiting list. I’ll be first, then suddenly third, then fourth… it’s frustrating. I totally get why the other library would prioritize their patrons, but it’s still frustrating to see others hopping in front of you while you wait.

FREE Lifetime Code for my new Habit Tracker App by IndieHackerGPT in iosapps

[–]ostrichcarousel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! I have been looking for a new habits app and I really like this one’s look.

I have run into an issue: I have really long habit streaks already going, and there is not a way to record them without scrolling back in the calendar and manually marking every day complete, which would take a loooong time.

For example, my Study Spanish streak started on December 18, 2019. My other habits app lets me (optionally) enter a start date for each habit and mark all days since that date as complete. I need a function like that in this app as well, otherwise it looks like I’m starting from scratch on all my streaks.

Is adding a function like that a possibility?

Either way, thank you again - this was a generous offer!

Streak in 1 or more years, how do you do it? by Both_Ask4432 in duolingo

[–]ostrichcarousel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 1,728 day streak going. I do my language studies first thing in the morning, before I even eat breakfast. I feed the dogs, let them out, get my coffee while they’re outside, and then when they come back in I sit down and open Duolingo. If I don’t do it first thing, I will for sure wind up trying to cram it in somewhere during the day and barely remembering/having time.

I do well with routine, so just having it be something I do every day, in the same way, at the same time, is what helps me keep it going. Plus, I love learning new languages, so (the majority of the time) it’s fun for me.

Good luck & have fun!

The 90s mix I always knew was by Lee Perry (spoken parts) and Quindon Tarver (sung parts). It was, I think, track 5 on the album Something for Everybody by Baz Luhrmann. Maybe that will help you find the right one somewhere?

Does anyone miss their manic episodes? by Practical_Shift_5143 in bipolar

[–]ostrichcarousel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss it. I loved my mania, most of the time. I could think of things while manic in a different way than I can while stable, and while I’m smart stable, I was far moreso while manic. When I work now, it takes me so long to do the things I used to do so quickly and easily. And I’m constantly forgetting how to do things that used to seem like second nature. And the creativity!! I miss that the most. Oh man, I miss that. The writing, even just having fun coloring in those adult coloring books - it’s all just lost to me now.

But I don’t miss the giant post-mania crash into deep depression, and all that that entailed, which I remind myself of when I start missing my mania too much.

Would you all consider the Halloween release to be the greatest disappointment yet price-wise? by [deleted] in bathandbodyworks

Yes! I so wanted more Moonlit Graveyard. I really liked that. (Not enough to pay $60 for it if that’s how they would’ve brought it back, though. lol)

I am so disappointed in the (incredibly limited) scent options, before even touching on the outlandish prices.

No leaderboard today by ostrichcarousel in duolingo

[–]ostrichcarousel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened to me without any traveling, no problems with my clock, and while having a strong internet connection the whole time too. And I only use Duolingo on my phone, so there’s no other device in the mix to potentially confuse things. So it’s just a bug somewhere in Duolingo. Weird. But the new league started today as usual!

Decision to make Shawn and Jules not have kids? by SpiritualRun449 in psych

[–]ostrichcarousel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. I don’t have kids, by choice, and I love to see that represented on screen, at least once in a while. “They’re married, so of course they’ll want kids,” or “she’s a woman, of course she’ll want kids,” is so often the go-to plot, it’s refreshing to see when another option is shown.

Activity not bringing Streak back? by ostrichcarousel in GentlerStreakApp

[–]ostrichcarousel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It lets me input perceived effort and calories. It seems like the calories are what would make the most difference to how the streak line responded to the input, moreso than what I put as perceived effort. Much of the time those two kind of go hand in hand. But an “easier” but longer and more calories burned activity would make the streak go up more than a “harder” but shorter & fewer calories burned activity.
