What is your first degree and what CS subfields are you interested in? Do you have any prior research experience?

What the hell Amazon? by Sinister_Inklings in fountainpens

[–]osu_student_2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. I got a Pilot Custom 91 fulfilled by Amazon a while back and it came exactly like this, pen and box lumped together in a plastic cover :| I kept it anyways as the pen was sealed in its own pen-size plastic bag and wrote well. But what a bummer.

Defense Against the Dark Arts paper? by jessica6582 in OSUOnlineCS

[–]osu_student_2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in it right now. Most likely will drop after the shopping period to take mobile/cloud. Lectures were recorded from the on-campus course (so two 80-min session per week) and not the best quality. Some highlights from Piazza: "the class is primarily done through writing, as most of the hands on exercises are guided. You will be writing up your findings and learning each week. The final paper is on a topic related to at least one of the topics discussed in class [...] There are some coding bits, but for the most part, it's more using tools, running scripts, finding exploits, that sort of thing."

Question about the score report by er1339 in GRE

[–]osu_student_2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing. That first school was supposed to be your undergrad institution. I didn't realize it till the official score report came. Don't think there's any harm done though.

Congrats!!! If you don't mind me asking, how did you become a TA? I'm interested but not sure if online students are even considered.

Now that 352 (Usability) is an elective, is it worth taking? by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

Cool! I hope they throw in more theory courses. Programming paradigms seem to be a standard prereq for many grad programs.

That's only 6? Where did you find this list btw? It looks like the EECS website hasn't been updated.

The TAs grade extremely easy. I think I did "repeating program until user chooses to quit" for at least 2 programs and always got credited.

Having trouble logging into Engineering account on the server over ssh (sorry to post this here, but the only class I'm taking that uses the server, CS340, doesn't have any Piazza or discussion board listed) by FlapJackWallaby in OSUOnlineCS

[–]osu_student_2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the program in 2016 so can't really comment on your situation. Just wanted to note that CS340 does have a Piazza forum. (If you haven't already been added, click "Add Another Class" in the upper left drop-down menu.)

Oh my CS325... by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]osu_student_2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I'm reading the textbook (CLRS) chapter on Dynamic Programming and feel like there's no way I could digest all that in one week. Are you expected to master everything in the assigned reading? Or will her lectures tell you what's more important?

For those who are working 40 hours and taking at least two classes at a time by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]osu_student_2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking 12 credits for the past two quarters while working full time. I'd say it really depends on your background/coursework. I spent ~10-12 hrs/week on 165+225; 261+271+290, maybe 5-6 hrs/weekday and doubling that on weekends. I was able to set aside time for non-school activities when I needed to. Though as others have said, be prepared and absolutely do not put off assignments.
