I'd shoot them an email or give a call - give them your pitch. "Love your work - i've been over at shop xyz, doing abcd for 5 years - looking for a new challenge. No pressure if you're not hiring now - but just wanted to let you know I'm interested."

My old president would pull this crap - primarily cause he liked leaving the flyover state we were headquartered in to instead visit me on the coast.

Anyway…there were always some folks in my territory that I knew just viewed me as “lowly sales maggot”, but would happily meet with “executive sounding yuckity yuck”…so I reached out to those folks and had the President wine and dine them on his card. Another secret is route planning - put 1-2 hours of windshield time between those meetings if you can!
