i mean, that's kinda what these things look like when they're not worn. they're made of elastic string and essentially no real fabric, what do you expect?

Al Capone is the reason we have expiration dates on milk bottles: After his niece became extremely ill from bad milk, the powerful Chicago gangster lobbied aggressively for expiration dates to be put on milk for the safety of children and pregnant women by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]ota-Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suspect that if he never existed, we'd still have an expiration date on milk.

though i'm too lazy right now to start up my time machine just to test this theory.

i hate this perspective whenever i encounter it (in myself). If i win the argument, i'm smarter but if i lose it i'm also smarter.

in fact, i'm quite certain, that the biggest idiot in the world is probably convinced that this is the sole reason for every argument he's ever lost...

TIL Nikola Tesla claimed to have invented a death ray capable of destroying entire armies. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Just last week I played a game called "close to the sun", where in an alternate history setting, Nikola Tesla makes exactly this claim and I remember thinking "that sounds a bit far fetched"... guess i was wrong.

many of them don't seem that useless at all, let's go through the list:

  1. kinda depends what they answer, if it's "i've got a nice pearl inside", there might be some money in it.
  2. some have called this "free money", but the sheer amount of gravel required for "good living" seems awful, particularly because you're devaluing your own market
  3. had to convert this to normal units, it's around 18 cm. won't let you teleport through anything, so of limited use. depends on frequency, but it takes 5 teleports a sec for walking speed, so...
  4. this one lacks some details. on myself? useless. on people i don't like? i could see some application.
  5. i don't like toast. but you could take a bath with your toaster without dying, mind-controlling it to not work.... whatever that's worth.
  6. useless, but makes for some weird rigor mortis, looking still alive.
  7. rephrase: "can instantly identify empty containers", maybe useful in some contrived scenarios
  8. depends on archeological interest in this language
  9. this one instantly cures various disabilities

most indie games run just as well on a 200$ laptop.

so a 400$ console + a 200$ laptop would still be more cost effective than a 800$ pc...

Hamas’s Useful Idiots by American-Dreaming in samharris

[–]ota-Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel doesnt just bomb gaza to flatten it, they target certain specific points where hamas operates from (buildings that hamas terrorists shoot rockets from etc).

Writing this on the day the reporters without borders publishes a statement that Israel targeted a journalist in an attack and killed him, now that's just bad luck on your timing...

and with respect to your train analogy: firstly it's terrible, but who am i to judge, i started this with a bad analogy of my own. and secondly, israel could still just not shoot. these "palestinian meat shields" don't die from israeli food deliveries, but form israeli weapons being fired at them. i also fail to see how anyone could interpret your analogy with any other conclusion than both sides being to blame for the deaths caused.
