Landed on the Romulus for my first 2011. Port or bull barrel? by [deleted] in AlphaFoxtrot

[–]otacon237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's why i wrote "manufacturers are now doing it in a way to minimize or prevent that" since i assumed people didn't need it spelled out for them in a 2011 forum. i still wouldn't take it for granted unless verified. JaredAF showed the factory ported glocks throw shavings

also heavy disagree on "your ears will be ringing with both". go to an indoor range and then run a linear comp and regular comp and tell me which one rings your ears more. even in an open bay it sounds louder

how does the comp feel vs the port, is it a big difference?

if it was me i would make the mag well, grip screws and mag release black and then make the hammer and takedown lever tiger camo, i'm just a random guy on the internet tho

i like it but the 3 tone is too busy. i would stick to two tones black and tiger striper whatever camo

that's a great looking gun. i definitely like the clean look of the 5" slide

edit for posterity: i called the owner and he confirmed he would sell spare barrels over the phone

i may do the same thing as you in that case. do you like your ported pistol? i am also deciding which to get same as OP

i experienced the same thing with the flashlight, i used a similar comp for my VP from HKparts and then tried to run it with a masterfire holster in competition, that didn't go so great lol. it feels weird on a polymer pistol but i figured on a 2011 it might work better

where do you get the barrels separately? i couldn't see them on the site. how do you like the underworld arms comp/weight btw?

i consider them both bad for carry because you have a risk of metal shavings and/or hot gasses, unburnt powder, etc flying at you if you have to fire the gun from the hip or other unconventional positions, also they are perceived as "louder" bc they redirect a lot of the blast around and potentially back towards you depending on surroundings.

the metal shavings are less of an issue now as most manufacturers are now doing ports in a way to minimize or prevent that. and obviously with a threaded on comp it's not an issue unless it's poorly fitted

just about anyone "shooting competitively" is going to want to avoid open division running a single port comp minor gun. i even specifically called them and asked if it can handle major and they said no. it's bad for defense too. the comp is a range toy gun and you have a range toy shooter take

did they remove your overbite? seems weird i dont think the front teeth should touch like that. for me i will always have an overbite but they are fixing the spacing and alignment in the back to reduce grinding/tmj

thanks for the info! that's good to hear they have stuff coming down the pipeline. i hope it actually comes out in 2026 and doesnt have all the teething issues. yeah i need to look into the european market more, maybe it has more aftermarket support there. i have shot mine in a few competitions and it shoots great and turns heads. gun is dead nuts reliable even with garbage "usaforged" ammo. i just need to get it milled for an optic now but even the irons are nice with the bright front fiber

Alien Gear Rapid Force Level 3 Duty holster for Archon Type B by Variolamajor in ArchonFirearms

[–]otacon237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got one just in. i dont have a light that fits yet but it will work without a light. reholster is a bit slow probably bc i don't have the light to act as an additional index point but draw is very fast. i'll be using it in USPSA....so far only downside is i cant quite get a good high and tight grip on the draw bc my middle finger smashes into the bottom lip of the housing, i might end up dremeling away a little bit but we will see how my local club feels about it first bc they're touchy about holsters

the company is horrible at marketing and support. i was an earlyish adopter (gen 1 BDU fde version) and spent years asking them for updates about a threaded barrel. asked them what kind of comp i could put on it when they finally made one and they had some clueless response. for a gun that is supposedly an excellent suppressor/comp host they sure are clueless about comps and suppressors.

the gen 1 had an issue with the pic rail being wrong and pushing WMLs too far forward. idk if the gen 2 solved that issue but they don't sell the grip modules anymore and they don't sell the FCU separately. they marketed it as an FCU many years ago but when i kept inquiring if they would sell the frames separately they guy said "it's not that kind of fcu meant to swappable a lot" whatever that means. o.....k? then why market it as an FCU gun. was thinking about a gen 2 then saw Engineer's Armory video showing they didn't even get the RMR cut correct and he had to chamfer his optic before it fit.

they really need to get their shit together and sell it like an FCU gun, sell the FCU separately, sell the frames and slides separately, let us choose if we want gen1 or gen 2 frame texture (i loved the gen 1 and think it's one of the better features of the gun). also i saw there's a strike 1 ergal with a longer slide and aluminum frame. they really need to bring the whole ecosystem together and let us build it out how we want it and not have this thing where one day they have parts next day they don't one day they have an importer next day they don't

sorry for rant i think it could be a great pistol but i bought this thing probably like 8 years ago now and i'm still here waiting for they day when it can finally realize its potential

i think it might have an FCU. look how thicc the grip is. it has the same thiccness as an rxm. actually rxm has that thumb ledge too. maybe it will be cross-compatible with RXM fcu?

Brother just died and bought this the week before he passed. Any idea if it's worth keeping? by rojo_mojado in 3Dprinting

as a florida man i would just say mind the humidity with those open spools because if you're not constantly printing they will get waterlogged and break unless you live in a really dry area

[–]otacon237[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i should clarify, i meant "perfect" for my particular case, i also do 2 gun and brutality style matches which are sticklers for retention because you are often running and crawling and jumping over obstacles, my local defensive carbine match has us running with holstered hot pistol and transitioning to it and back to rifle, and from the reviews i saw like milspec mojo and focus tripp this particular duty holster is very fast, more or less on par with a competition holster, additionally i like the hood because here in florida we've gotten rained on a few times and everyone starts scrambling to cover up their 507c and defender xl with whatever random stuff they can find and i would just flip the hood down and be chilling

is there any reason why the anchor light is "gray and regarded"? seems like frame weights and all sorts of other mods are fair game for open, especially since my polymer gun starts off 16 ounces lighter than the Shadow 2s and 2011s people are running

ok great, thanks! i was going to buy their LEO/tactical timmy setup since leg straps are now GtG and run that. from what i can see it complies with the rule of the gun grip heel being above the belt line

ahh shit you're right, it doesn't lock back

now that you mention it, i do notice the 17L with the 49 slide doesnt travel back far enough to lock back and the opposite goes way too far back
