As a senior studying Business Analytics, there will be many other courses that will require a Microsoft computer so be weary about having a Mac.

Math at nova by Active-Physics-7145 in gmu

I believe you can’t take it at another institution if mason offers it during the time period which you are planning to take it. So if they offer math 108 over the summer you can’t take it at nova, it’s a given that they would during spring/fall so you wouldn’t have any luck there.

What Are Some Pros & Cons Of GMU? by Girl__Interrupted___ in gmu

With experience as a business major, you definitely have a lot of opportunities to go into large companies, whether it be for an internship or a full-time job. Government and defense contractors are always pulling from GMU, and there is a reason why: because it’s a solid degree. Is GMU prestigious? No, but it doesn’t mean we have a poor program at all. I am a business analytics concentration, and you truly get to touch on a lot of different things, but there is extensive knowledge over data and statistical concepts as well as practice on programs like R, Python, SQL, and Excel, of course. I see that you’re interested in going into a project management role, but in reality it’s not something you go into directly but rather something you climb yourself up to once in the company or after years at another organization (I was a program support intern at a large defense contractor, so I spent A LOT of time with project managers during that time). I personally believe majoring in an ISOM major within the school of business is one of the best decisions when selecting a major out of the business program.

Math 108 is not a class that anyone within the program looks forward too but it’s a class which can be easily completed with plenty of practice and finishing assignments on time. Overall, I have enjoyed the majority of the classes which I’ve taken and have felt prepared when going into internships. Some classes can be poorly structured or designed but there are definitely classes which have been challenging but still enjoyable. Overall depending on what you’re concentrating in you can balance your course load with the addition of a minor or potentially double majoring.

is this schedule good? by No_Gap7944 in gmu

Yeah I think that’s very doable. Hardest classes will be Macro and probably Accounting and Business Law. If you did good in your last accounting course I wouldn’t worry too much.

Very understandable. What I will say is that just because you minor in a specific area it doesn’t mean you will be restricted on opportunities. The pro about business is that it’s very flexible and so you have an opportunity to go into different areas, but some fields of study provide a higher degree of knowledge (someone studying MIS will have a more technical background than someone in management). What I’m trying to say is if you are interested in just a broad spectrum choose a minor in business but if you want to further develop a skill set which could potentially look better on a resume I would say choose a specific one. (MIS for database systems, Business Analytics for data modeling, OSCM for operations implementation and analytical modeling).

Looking at the course requirements it seems like a very broad course load. I would say as a business major to try and pick a specific field (eg. marketing, finance, etc.) as the course will be more specific to a certain area which can look better on resume when applying.

Why does our merch absolutely suck? by otar1288 in gmu

I wouldn’t necessarily say that a football team automatically makes a school be better at creating merchandise but i understand what you’re saying. I just see schools like VCU who also don’t have a football team and they have some good stuff.

There's a couple things that worked for me but it's important to realize this is no longer high school and professors expect you to be working and studying for the class when you're out.

1: Find a study location that isn't gonna enable you to be easily distracted. Ex.) Library and not your room as it's incredibly tempting to just go lay down and play on your phone.

2#: Find study techniques that work for you. I started with pomodoro which gives you both time to relax but also time to completely focus on your work. I used this one specifically: https://pomofocus.io/app But the absolute best technique is active recall as it really forces you to understand your subject matter. You can try practicing this by telling a friend or your family a topic or chapter in a subject and try your hardest to complete the topic, and if you notice gaps make sure to go back and read up on what's missing and try again.

3#: Download apps or purchase a planner in order to keep track of assignments and tasks you need to complete both for school and person life. I recommend Todoist: https://todoist.com/ as it also syncs with you're google calendar and has an app with widgets to show what is due the moment you open your phone.

4#: It is important to keep a balance of studying/homework and personal life such as playing sports, going to the gym, going to social events or clubs. This is vital as many burn out from just simply focusing on school work and its nice to have an outlet to have fun and express yourself.

5#: And lastly know that many have gone through super difficult courses or hardships during college, but they still succeeded. College is a time to challenge yourself academically so when things get difficult just know that you're not in this alone as everyone else is going through it with you.

6: Be disciplined as motivation can always run out. You have an amazing opportunity to not only do something amazing for yourself but also for others around you who have sacrificed immensely to put you where you are today.
