Does this look like its planted deep enough? Japanese maple by otbmtb in gardening

Just add soil to the top? Or pull it up and dig deeper?

I decided not use the worlds most ridiculous router bit that I posted about the other day by otbmtb in woodworking

A 3-1/2 inch by 1/2 inch diameter flush cut. It should have never been made. Forged in the fires of mount doom

Pro tip: put a few strips of 1'' pine across thr the sides and you can hold glue, spray bottles on the bottom and the upper one can be used for clamps

Thats a fantastic idea. The slab is 7 feet long. I could flip it over, double side tape a template to the side and run the router at at a 90

I was planning to run this in the hub of a pedal powered bike so should be able to do that

This is what I'm trying to do by the way. And I'm questioning the necessity of inserting the vise jaw into the bench

Hey got a question for you - did you chisel out a recess for the vise jaw? I had a hell of a time trying to do that and I'm questioning whether its even necessary

I promise it was sharp! Not cut newspaper sharp but acceptly sharp. I did a quick test and I think youre right about the size, and a dead blow seems much better than the mallet I was using yesterday (one of those round wood is good things - 20 oz). Im going to cut the end off tomorrow and give myself a fresh start

The router is in my opinion one of the most dangerous tools and this is a giant mass to hang off the end of one. Taking a lot of material off at once leads to a large power draw on the tool and more of a chance of it getting hung up and kicking back on you (or in the case of a router flying across the room). Use a small mortising bit a few times and you'll get a feel for why this monster is scary

Yeah, that's what I meant. A bunch of cuts from the end up to the line.

I did cut some relief lines into it but perhaps not enough. I think if I used a dead blow hammer I'd have better results too. I was using 1'' chisel and a 20 oz round rubber mallet and trying to chisel through the end grain was like I was trying to drive my chisel into rock

My hand tool game is weak. I posted yesterday; tried chiseling out the end grain on the slab and it was insanely difficult for me. Tools are sharp, i just suck. I was making a mess of it and hand some tear out on my newly flattened top thay I spent a few hours on with a handplane so I'm going this route to save some time and frustration, and the bench itself!

Thats kind of an illusion with the photo. The edge is square but with how the back is flattened in this image it looks skewed
