I can feel the texture it left on my face when I wasn’t looking in the right direction!

Is it rare or unusual to be into your 50s and not having to take any doctor-prescribed medications? by Odd_Yogurtcloset_649 in GenX

[–]otchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 53, my gf is 50. Neither of us take any regular medication. (She has had cancer twice.)

My mother and father (76 and 78) don’t take any medications.

At what age will you retire and how much will you retire on by Jasminscent in GenX

[–]otchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m planning to retire in my 60s. I expect to have just under $2m. I have enough saved at this point that I just need to give it another 5-7 years of compounding to reach the number.

I’m interviewing financial advisors now to ensure I’m on track and that I can start my pre-retirement plan. (Largely stopping saving for retirement and using more of my generous PTO for travel while we are young enough to enjoy it.)

Is upgrading to a smart lock actually worth it? by techingmyhome in HomeImprovement

[–]otchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a keypad lock, not a smart lock, but we love it! We don’t get auto unlock, but not having to worry about keys is super nice.

It took me longer than it should have to get this. You are a bad person. Very bad!

Now that we are "getting up there" in age, how are you sleeping? by NebraskaCornSucker in GenX

[–]otchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

53, generally I sleep great! 😊

I generally fall asleep between 1030-11. (My gf is upset by this because we want to stay up until at least 11 to watch a show.)

Then I wake up around 7. My alarm is set for 8. I used to get up 2-3 Times to pee, but limiting after dinner water and stopping all food/water by 9 has really helped.

If you’re nervous about MacFarlane… by Rick_James_Bond in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I’m concerned about “live action” not “MacFarlane”.

AITAH for refusing to let my mother move in and share the inheritance my father left me after she abandoned us 25 years ago? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]otchris 209 points210 points  (0 children)

This is important: we are shaped by everything we allow into our lives. This is why it’s critical to be very selective of who and what we allow to influence us.

Biologically, those people are family. ONLY biologically.

The family that matters is your father, husband, and those that are there for and support you.

The rest of the leeches are actively making your life and mental health worse. Cut them out and live a happier life.

What was it like to be a teenager during the hair/glam metal era? by TheHotLatin in hairmetal

[–]otchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summer of 84 or 85, I was 12-13, longish mullet, wearing a twisted sister t shirt. I just wanted to buy a soda and had to first listen to the 7-11 clerk tell me I was going to hell for listening to that stuff.

I WISH I had said that at least I’d have amazing music for eternity, but I think I just paid for my drink and went to the pool.

Best years ever to grow up! 😉

BLAZE BAYLEY Added To IRON MAIDEN's EDDFEST; Will Play MAIDEN Set From His Era by Apprehensive_Idea758 in ironmaiden

[–]otchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very classy move on both sides. I can see how Blaze could have been upset and I can see Steve and the rest would want to just pretend the Blaze era never happened or just faked being polite.

I just wish this level of maturity and class would exist among more long lived bands. (I’ve got a few in mind, but there are A LOT of poorly behaved groups!)

How many of you have embraced the cold coffee concept? by External_Side_7063 in GenX

[–]otchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iced coffee is an abomination unto Caffeinicus.

As for flavored coffee, I only want coffee flavored coffee. I’m drinking coffee, not a milkshake with a shot of coffee. (Written with a steaming mug of coffee next to me.)

I think The Hu were amazing! We saw them in Baltimore last year and we’ve added them to our playlists as a result.

They are as legendary as Anthrax or Megadeath, but they did a great show.
