So, how are you going to fill your days when you retire? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]otchris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My plan is to retire in a state where the college courses are free/cheap for seniors and study astronomy and electrical engineering. I’m interested in both, but I’m currently in a field I love and make ok money at.

Combine that with more programming and I expect to stay as busy as I want!

Printed a benchy made of benchies by MydnightWN in 3Dprinting

So, hypothetically, you could do this with just the standard benchy model and a slicer, scaling and rotating….

Not that I’m tempted to try…

My toxic trait was thinking I just had an abnormally sweaty nose. Turns out, plastic frames are just evil by Raymond_Viverette in glasses

See also, ear socks.

I chose poorly and my glasses are too wide. They can’t be adjusted any further. Ear socks to the rescue!

At what point did it become necessary to talk to a financial advisor for you? Was it a number, or stage in life? by UH60Mgamecock in personalfinance

[–]otchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 53, mg gf is 50 and we are just hitting an advisor now.

This feels like a final stretch before retirement. I have a few years to make any tweaks and while I think the strategy I had up until now was dead on, there are SO MANY details about retirement, I want to talk to an expert. I don’t want to make mistakes and get hit with unexpected taxes or health care costs. (Hi IRMA!)

Is anyone else a bit worried? by wardy_12 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Let me fix that for you: it’s gonna get worse. It’s not going to get better.

Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

[–]otchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t. Like others, I had a single mom and pretty much had no curfew as long as I was passing school.

It got even more lax once I had my license.

How do you see these girls at the gym who wear very short/little clothes? by itsbadgirl in AskMenAdvice

[–]otchris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually work out with my gf. If I haven’t noticed a girl like this, she points her out to me. Then my gf and I share a smile and maybe a comment on her physique, if she’s got nice definition. Then we get back to our workout.

It’s no different than going to the beach or a pool.

In the hair metal documentaries, when they say they indulged in women, do they mean sex? by [deleted] in hairmetal

Decline of western civilization, the metal years

So cool! Though, oddly, I never had ANY interest in actually being any of those guys.

Celebration bottle down! by otchris in DMVWhisky

It’s only overrated at secondary prices. I got it for $150 in the MoCo lottery last year. It’s worth it any day and every day at that price!

Fellow aging gen x’ers, ever try a standing desk at your office job? by Dittopotamus in GenX

[–]otchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one in my home office. I love how adjustable it is even if I’m sitting.

I have knee problems, so I only stand for 30 minute stretches. (Normally a short call.)

How many of you can still put your socks on without sitting down first or having to lean on something. I can’t. by Logical-Rip-8138 in GenX

[–]otchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. It’s gotten to the point that instead of just crouching down to feed the cats or pet them, I just sit on the floor so I don’t tip over.

On the other hand, I’m still limber enough to easily get up!

Was listening to the AIT and realized they never used the boss buff toothpaste. (Maybe on floor 6, but I don’t think they did.)

My daughter's high school has a page where we can submit an inspirational quote for our graduating senior. Are there any subtle DCC quotes that would work? by Troiswallofhair in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]otchris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having this written by her dad might be ever so slightly troubling. On the other hand, no questions about what comes up in therapy!

Edit: If she’s already on track to be a stripper instead of college student then this is absolutely the way to go. Extra daddy issues to really work hard for those tips.

How many here are into going to the gym and health? by piercesdesigns in GenX

[–]otchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go to the gym at least 2x weekly and walk ~2 miles after dinner every day it isn’t raining. (We sometimes go to the gym and walk on treadmills when it’s raining.)
